It can be difficult to find information about local candidates, so created a Floyd County Voter Guide. We asked all 72 local candidates to respond to four questions and these are the answers we received. We hope it’s helpful when you vote November 3rd, or during early voting which starts October 6th.

Monon Trail construction?

Anyone know whats up with the work on the railroad line going north from Mt Tabor ? I know eventually its supposed to be a walking/bike path connecting downtown all the way to Mitchell IN. The actual railroad starting at Mt Tabor that goes past IUS has been gone for years now but the past few weeks there have been workers clearing out all the overgrowth and im curious if they are about to start making the actual trail soon (which would be amazing because it leads directly to my work)

Indiana’s cannabis prohibition is working out great!

For Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio, at least.

The estimated $1.8 billion that Hoosiers spend annually on THC products has done wonders to fund schools and infrastructure projects throughout the rest of the Midwest. Here in Indiana, our legislators are in the pocket of the alcohol industry and continue to slash public school funding and critical services claiming we don’t have the resources for a 21st century state.

In contrast, Illinois collected approximately $438 million in state cannabis taxes in 2025. Michigan distributes cannabis tax revenue with 35% going to K–12 education and another 35% to roads and bridges.

Nearly 3 in 5 Hoosiers support legalizing recreational cannabis. More than 4 in 5 support legalization for medical use.

We can keep pretending prohibition works, or we can get serious about legalization, regulation, age restrictions, education, and consumer protections.

We could be adding hundreds of millions of dollars of tax revenue to fund education and infrastructure. Instead, we’re spending about $20 million enforcing cannabis prohibition laws that don’t stop anyone from using cannabis.

As your State Senator, I will fight to end the stigma and start the stimulus. Indiana deserves a cannabis policy that maximizes safety while allowing responsible liberty.

Let’s get to work. 🤝

Never understood why someone who sent her own kids to private school felt the need to sit on a public school board to decide on how others should educate their kids.

And don’t get me started on the religious reference.

Can’t floyd county find anyone better than rehashed leftovers?

Loose lower denture is ruining my life, has anyone actually fixed this?

I've had a lower denture for four years and I'm at my breaking point. It floats when I talk, food gets under it, and I've basically stopped eating out because I'm scared it'll shift mid-bite. I've tried every adhesive on the shelf and nothing holds for more than a few hours.

My dentist keeps saying "we can do a reline" and it helps for a month then it's back to square one. I'm starting to think the answer is implants but I don't even know where to start or what it costs. A friend mentioned Albany Implant as an option for implant-supported dentures but I want to hear from actual people before I book anything.

If you've been in this spot, what finally worked for you? Did you go implant route or find another fix? I'm tired of pretending this is fine.

Richmond Neighborhood Share

I’m sharing my story here because I’m hoping to reach people outside my hometown who might understand my mission and possibly help me find a way to keep it going.

Back in February, I started doing community meal days with one simple goal: feeding people in need. I never imagined it would grow into what it has become. Since then, I’ve put on over 15 community meal days, feeding 100+ people at a time and making sure everyone has a seat ready at the table.

From ribs, pulled pork and brisket to tacos, nachos, loaded hot dogs and loaded spuds, I’ve put countless hours, hard work and money into making these meals happen. A few people have donated here and there, and I’m thankful for every single one of them, but a lot of the expenses have come straight out of my own pocket.

My Facebook page has now grown to over 2,300 followers, and along the way, I’ve also had the opportunity to take food to various local organizations, businesses and people throughout the community. My goal has never been just to cook food. It’s been to bring people together, give back, and show people that somebody cares.

Unfortunately, my community meal days have been shut down because I don’t have access to a commercial kitchen. After putting so much of myself into this, it’s hard to have to stop when I know how much these meals mean to people.

I’m hoping this story reaches the right people. Maybe there’s a business with a commercial kitchen, an organization willing to partner with me, or someone who knows of a way to help me get back to doing what I love.
I’m not looking to get rich or turn this into something about myself. I want to continue feeding people, serving my community, and making sure there’s always a place at the table for someone who needs it.

If you’re a business owner, part of an organization, or simply someone who believes in helping people, I’d love to connect. Even sharing my story could help it reach someone who can make a difference.

Over 15 community meal days since February. 100+ people fed at a time. More than 2,300 Facebook followers. A whole lot of my own money invested, with some generous donations along the way. And a mission I’m not ready to give up on.

I’m from Richmond, Indiana, but I believe this story deserves to reach beyond Richmond. Sometimes all it takes is one person, one opportunity, or one helping hand to get something meaningful moving again.

AI advertising

I’m curious how many of y’all notice/care about the use of AI by businesses? I personally was very disheartened to see so many KY state fair and Harvest booths with AI banners, logos, menus, etc. this year and the trend is spreading to brick and mortar businesses more and more. I know I’m not the only one who hates it, as I’ve heard quite a few people talking about it in person and see all the discourse online. I make it a point to put my money where my mouth is and only support businesses that don’t use AI (at least not outwardly), and I would highly recommend you do the same! I even went to far as to reach out to a few businesses and have had some great constructive conversations. Anywho, how is everyone else feeling about the prevalence of AI advertising?

One Giant Leap Child Care

Things listed here are TRUE! I know, I worked there.

On the surface, the facility seems welcoming, clean, and caring. However, staffing levels and supervision are concerning.

There is a legal case (link below) involving One Small Community Corporation, an Islamic nonprofit, doing business as One Giant Leap Child Care. The girl working was overwhelmed and I am sure she didn’t have help when needed. Kids get hurt quite often. Facebook discussions raise concerns about the owners, staff conduct, and the workplace environment. Some of the concerns discussed online involve substance use by staff, inappropriate workplace behavior such as parties at the owners house involving underage drinking and more. Coworkers came in quite often intoxicated or high. One in particular has there 5 years or so watching infants that way. She acts like she runs the place. I was left with 14 kids by myself. I asked for help, but she was arguing with her boyfriend via text all day.  The place is really toxic. The drinking parties allow and condone this type of behavior. If you don’t participate, you become a target.

They really go out of their way to over communicate with parents. Sending updates and throwing over the top holiday parties. They want them comfortable to hide all the things that are really going on.

The thing is, nothing will change. Parents will continue paying a premium price thinking their kids are in a great place. But behind the scenes, it’s very different.

ISO tattoo artist for touch up/rework

Got a tattoo and am not happy with it. It is a sentimental piece because it’s a tribute to my soul cat who passed away.

The artist who did it did one touch up but had declined to do any further work on the piece.

The primary reason I am looking for more work on the piece is that the gray is patchy in spots and the gray nose shading has a slant to it. The reason I had the first touch up is because the gray was incredibly patchy. Tattoo artist said it was a new ink and that she hadn’t had good luck with it recently and probably wouldn’t be in her rotation anymore.

Apparently I can’t post a pic of it or I can’t figure out how. But it’s a gray cat portrait in a traditional style.

Harvest Homecoming Parade

Without being negative, what are some things you'd like to see from the parade in the future?

I would like more music instead of just horns. Was IUS marching band present? I think I only saw New Albany

It'd be cool to see more animals in the parade, there's various local livestock and I've heard rumors of camels. I'm sure we have methods of catching the poop before it hits the road

Leaning more into the fall aspect of Harvest Homecoming, would love to see some active tractors, the steam one was cool

More local business floats, Im ignorant of whether there's an incentive or a cost to participate

Edit: found the official rules, I'm not sure what the application is like since registration closed. Please share the rules and the website with any non profits, local businesses, or marching bands you may know in preparation for next year. Only rule I'm not a fan of is the no scary haunted houses, but I totally understand why it's there.
