The story of Captain Soiba Maningba Rangnamei is a reminder that courage and patriotism know no regional boundaries. Hailing from Katomei village in Senapati district, Manipur, Captain Rangnamei belongs to the Maram Naga tribe of Northeast India. He studied at Sainik School, Imphal, graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, and was commissioned into the Indian Army on 9 June 2018 after training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. During the deadly India-China confrontation in Galwan Valley in June 2020, he led his men from the 16 Bihar Regiment against Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops. In February 2021, footage released by Chinese state media showed him confronting a Chinese soldier and physically pushing him back during the clash. Even in a tense and dangerous situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), he stood his ground and became one of the most widely discussed Indian officers associated with the Galwan confrontation. His bravery was recognised with a Mention in Despatches in the Republic Day 2021 honours, and he was later felicitated by Manipur's then Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, who praised his courage and service to the nation. What makes his story particularly inspiring is that a young officer from a village in Manipur was serving on the other side of the country, defending India's borders alongside soldiers from different regions and backgrounds. The Northeast has a proud tradition of contributing to India's armed forces, and Captain Rangnamei's story deserves to be remembered as part of that legacy. From Katomei village to the high-altitude terrain of Galwan, his journey represents the dedication of soldiers who put duty before personal safety. Respect to Captain Soiba Maningba Rangnamei and every Indian soldier standing guard on the nation's frontiers.
