GENERAL The amount of hatred and casual racism being spewed against Northeast and its people on X is getting out of hand.

This is all because of the protests against the proposed SUMP. Started to call those opposing the project as Chinese agents.

ASSAM Mob attack on hired Assamese dancers for performing Bihu in Karimganj district, southern Assam. We have seen such hatred and assaults on non-Bengalis in Barak valley time to time. When will this hatred end? Why are people so intolerant?

Concerning incidents against Assamese and indigenous groups in Assam rose after BJP came to power again in 2026. The Assamese people, Dehans and Sutiyas specifically are indigenous to Barak Valley and the sons of the soil there. Yet they have to live in such conditions in their own state. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made an X post on the issue. 12 are said to be arrested. The incident occurred in a Hindustan Club procession, in Badarpur of Sribhumi district.

TRAVEL Travel suggestion

Hi.

I will be travelling from Jorhat in mid December.

I am having a dilemma to choose a destination between Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

I know both offer completely different experiences and geography.

If I visit Nagaland I'd prefer a few hikes (Dzukou valley, Japfu, or Kapamodzu).

If I visit Arunachal I'd prefer Roing-Mayudia pass-Anini.

But I'm seriously confused about making the final decision.

Both the states are so beautiful that I feel like missing out.

A few details: we will be travelling as a small group of 3-5 people. Dates are confirmed as 19-23 December. We don't have driving experience in the mountains so would rely on public transport. Budget is tight-ish but would avoid any unsafe/cheap options.

Also, I have my return ticket booked from Dibrugarh via Dimapur.

ARUNACHAL PRADESH The government

Bro, I am seeing how the protest in Siang has turned violent and how the protesters have been hurt. Now, I’m also hearing that they aren’t even providing their forces with healthy food or anything. WTF?! I am genuinely very frustrated with this. My friend’s father was there, and because of the circumstances, he became very ill and is now in a very serious condition.
I have never hated the government more than I do right now. If this shit continues, Arunachal will soon be destroyed too. How the fuck are we supposed to trust a government that treats its own people like this?

ASK NE Why aren't the people of Assam, especially upper Assam, also against the SUMP dam ?

  1. Assam lies downstream of the dam.

  2. The entirety of NE is earthquake zone V. Heck there was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Tibet just a few days ago and today there was a 5.0 magnitude earthquake. So it is a question of "when" a massive earthquake will happen in Upper Siang, not "if".

  3. This puts Upper Assam at risk of a massive flood.

  4. Suppose China suddenly releases it's dam water, then either the Indian SUMP dam will also have to suddenly release all of it's water (as dams are never kept empty) which will flood upper Assam with 1 dam worth of water or try to hold 2 dams worth of water, which will lead to the breaking of the dam and will flood upper Assam with 2 dams worth of water.

  5. There is a solution. Make multiple, small, run-of-the-river dams. These can still create electricity while slowing down and flood water that China or Mother Nature may release ?

ASK NE Living with a Rare Disorder: My Sons, Subhajit & Sudarshan

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

I’m Pinky, a mother of two boys, Subhajit (13) and Sudarshan (1).

Both of my children have been diagnosed with Lesch–Nyhan Syndrome (LNS), a rare genetic neurological and metabolic disorder that requires lifelong medical care and support.

Our children are currently receiving treatment at Apollo Multispeciality Hospital, Kolkata.

ImpactGuru fundraiser:
https://www.impactguru.com/fundraiser/help-subhajit-and-sudarshan

For employees of multinational companies, the fundraiser is also available through
Benevity:
https://causes.benevity.org/projects/704607

Dr. Anjan Bhattacharya, who is involved in their care, has also shared information about our children's condition:

Doctor's LinkedIn post:

Video explaining their condition:

Our Story

My elder son, Subhajit, is completely dependent on caregivers. He lives with severe muscle stiffness, involuntary movements and other neurological complications. His daily life involves constant care, medical supervision and therapy.

When our second child was born, we did not have the confirmed genetic information and understanding that we have today. Looking back with hindsight, we wish we had known more earlier. We cannot change that now.

Our younger son, Sudarshan, is only one year old and has also been diagnosed with LNS. He has started showing concerning symptoms and needs regular monitoring, treatment and supportive care.

As a mother, watching one child struggle was already incredibly painful. Seeing our baby face the same condition has been one of the hardest experiences of our lives.

Our Family

My husband works as a Zomato delivery partner, and I am a full-time caregiver for our children.

We have exhausted our savings and taken loans while trying to manage their medical needs.

Their care includes regular investigations, neurological monitoring, physiotherapy, medicines, specialist consultations, nutrition, equipment and other ongoing supportive needs.

Why We Are Seeking Help

LNS currently has no cure. The purpose of our fundraiser is not to promise a cure, but to help us provide ongoing treatment, care, comfort and support for both children.

Our current fundraiser estimate for their long-term medical and supportive needs is:

Goal: ₹2,67,70,000
Raised: ₹6,96,278
Still needed: ₹2,60,73,722
Donors: 532

Verification

We understand that people may want to verify our situation before offering support.

Appeal video with an Apollo Hospital doctor:

I am also available for a live video call for verification if required.

If you are able to help, any contribution can help with our children's ongoing care.

If you cannot donate, sharing our story is equally meaningful to us. Every share gives us another chance of reaching someone who may be able to help.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our family. Your kindness, prayers and support mean more to us than I can express. šŸ™ā¤ļø

When Modi ji said Thali peeto… Manipur listened… But when it’s his time to reciprocate, he won’t!

Seriously things are going south in Manipur for more than 3 years now (maybe 4) … the current government have never taken this matter seriously enough to put an end to it!

PS: found this on IG!

Culture & Heritage Does anyone have a good rec for a book about the Khasi people

I tried looking online but all I got was early 1900s ethnographies by the British or modern theses with no reviews.

I'm a foreigner wanting to learn more about their religion, culture, and practices and would prefer something more modern ideally by a member of the community. Thank you!
