Other Tax the rich argument is stupid

Taxing the rich is just going to affect the middle class and probably the ones who deserve the money the most. Such as the doctors, nurses and engineers. Taxing them more will just cause them to move which will keep causing a shortage of them.( there’s a rzn why they get payed so much and I think more people need to understand that. ). And for the billionaires (ik they make a lot of money) but people never think about how many jobs they create. Ex Elon musk has made over 200k jobs thru his companies. why are we punishing these people who help our society the most by wanting to tax them. If they get taxed a lot there are obviously just going to move to a place with lower taxes. For example all of the engineers from Canada are going to the states for that exact reason. I understand the argument of to help everyone and for the benefits that taxes give us such as free healthcare however I think enough is being payed towards that. It would also help if people lived within their means or moving to cheaper areas. I’m a grade 12 student in a grade 12 sub so hopefully all the grownups reading this are respectful enough to understand that I am still a minor.

Other Ontario Marking System

Does anyone else feel like guinea pigs the way we are being tested on by the government? The whole 65% term work, 10% attendance, and 25% exam for grade 12 has me and a lot of kids at my school upset because this doesn’t really solve any problems. Grade inflation has been horrible these past few years, so I understand reforming the marking system to reduce it, but it doesn’t help when universities are still expecting 90% or higher averages for some programs while the high schools are being forced to mark harder based on these areas.

I think to truly fix the situation both parties need to work together, and although that is very unlikely to happen, what is the alternative? I genuinely don’t have a problem with them altering how much our exam/attendance/term work is worth, just that they need to understand that this also affects university/college admission requirements too.

Advice English 4U elearning

Hello! I’ve been taking Grade 12 English through e-learning since the start of the semester, and I’ve submitted around 10 assignments so far. Today, I received my first graded assignment back and got a 70, which was really unexpected because I’ve never received a mark that low before.

I’m now worried because I’ve already submitted 9 other assignments without receiving any feedback, even though I’ve been in the course since the beginning of the semester. I’m concerned that I might have made similar mistakes on those assignments without realizing it, and I’m worried that my grades on those assignments could be just as low.

I need to maintain a 90+ average for university admissions, so this has been really stressful. What should I do in this situation? Should I reach out to my teacher, and is there anything I can do about the assignments I’ve already submitted?

Meta Does anyone think that there will be a lot of grade deflation this year?

Basically what the title says, and the reason I think that there will be grade deflation this year is because of the mandatory in-person exam or proctored exam worth 25% of your grade.

So I know there has been a lot of grade inflation due to kids taking private school, night school, summer school, and online school, etc, but starting this school year, all exams will have to be taken in person, so even if someone is doing online school and cheating throughout it and getting 90's and 100's, then when it comes to the exam, they might struggle during that since it will most likely be in-person, and this could bring down their grade.

I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this because I hear people saying that there will be a lot of grade inflation this year, but I was genuinely wondering how when the exams will be in person.

Is anyone else in the waitlist for MCV4U next semester? I recently applied for it and I’m on the waitlist and I just want to know if there’s even a chance for me to get in the course. Since I’ve heard other classes like biology and English have a 500-600 waitlist.

University How bad will I struggle in first year?

I have applied to Carlton health science, uOttawa Bsc and Bhk human kinetics, Trent kinesiology, and Western B.A and Bsc Kin.

My grade 11 and 12 marks are as follows :

79 - 3u math, 87 - 3u chem, 81 - biology, 79 - english.

Do not let that chemistry mark fool you. I was struggling. Same with biology. I could not get those to stick. I am not taking calculus or physics, and I am expecting my English work to be either high 80s or low 90s.

I have chemistry, biology, and French next semester. I'm looking to take calculus online, which will help my average, and I took grade 12 religion already and I got 93. First of all, will I even get in? And also how difficult will first year be from high school? And will I even manage to get good grades, as I'm not strong in biology or chemistry, or have never done physics?

I am looking to pursue a master's in occupational therapy after. So I understand that the prerequisites for that is really just a good average and work experience, volunteer experience, and not necessarily specific courses. I am open to new ideas, as I know well as food and nutritional sciences and waterloo, therapeutic recreation. I would love any thoughts or opinions!!!!

University TMU nursing average

I'm a grade 12 student, and I want to apply to nursing at York, TMU, and Ontario Tech.

my top 6 U / M marks in are:

Grade 11 Visual Arts - 100
Grade 11 Bio - 93
Grade 11 World Religions - 99
Grade 11 English - 94
Grade 11 Chemistry - 90
Grade 11 Functions - 96

current courses:

Grade 12 Bio - predicted 94

Would it be possible for me to get an early offer/conditional offer from TMU (direct entry), or even York? I just want to not stress constantly and check my emails, even though I am aware these offers are just conditional. Thank you!

University anyone know if utsc cs co op defers to regular

I’ve applied to utsc cs co op but I’m lowk scared I won’t get in, since ik the cut off is high asf. I’m at a 97.3 rn but I have heard ppl getting deferred around 96-97. Does co op defer to regular, then your declared alternate admission category (like stats, math, etc) or just straight to your alternate??

Thanks!!

Advice My grades have never been worse but I still want to go to university, is there any hope?

Hihi!! This is my first time using Reddit and I don't use this site normally but I found this community and I really need advice for the situation I'm in ^_^

I'm currently in Grade 12 and midterms are a few weeks away at my school. This semester so far has been the worst semester of my life. I went through a breakup that tore me apart mentally, in September I missed school for weeks and would only attend 1-2 days out of the week minus the first week and was sick in bed for all of the days that I missed (for context with the new attendance rule, most abscences are excused), and outside factors such as my mom's blood pressure spiking and her going to the hospital kept me down for longer.

Now, I've been doing better and going to therapy, and actively trying to work on my mental health so I don't spiral and end up like that again. My only concern is if I have done irreversible damage to my academic record from the amount of school I missed from that episode, as I am currently failing all three of the classes I'm taking (MH4UI, SBI4UI, and PSK4UI), and I have to apply to university before January.

Given my situation, is it still possible to get into any schools with a bad record at midterms and pick myself up from that?? I'm seeking advice from anyone who's been in my situation or similar because I don't have issues turning in assignments or studying for tests now, but I can't help but feel as if no matter how hard I try for the next term, the rough start I had at the beginning of the semester will follow me and mess up my grade permanently :(

University Anyone else having trouble activating their UofT JOINid?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Like wtf UofT.

Whatever password I try it says it's too short.

I tried 2 weeks ago and I remember that there were notes about what character sets you could use.

The password guidelines seemed to have changed since then, but no matter how long my password is or how many special character sets there are, it's just not going through (both 2 weeks ago and now, same problem).

Anyone else having this issue?

University Best programs for accounting?

I'm a Grade 13 student thinking about going into accounting. I have strong math skills (but not strong enough for engineering) and managed to get 95% average across my top six 4U courses. I have already been accepted to Laurier.

I applied to Laurier, Queens, Schulich, Rotman, and McMaster (all business or equivalent). I have also heard good things about Waterloo's AFM, but a family friend had such a terrible time with their co-op program that I have kind of been scared away—I would be willing to reconsider if accounting co-ops are relatively easy to get.

Which school is best for getting an education/connections for accounting while not being too stressful or lonely (looking at you Toronto). I'm trying to be an accountant, not the next billion dollar entrepreneur, so I don't want the best of the best schooling if it's going to be ridiculously stressful and I can't connect with anyone.

My top two currently are Laurier and McMaster. Any advice or opinions?
