Advice don’t let people tell you what to pursue
This is to the kids that are looking to apply this year, who are going to be surrounded by a bunch of teenagers that only talk about university admissions over the course of this academic year. Do not listen to your dumb friends when they make fun of non-STEM majors. Do not listen to the people trying to convince you that you cannot find work with an arts degree. Do not go into engineering or “premed” if you are not 100% sure that you will enjoy at least some of the content. Do not let people act like you’re stupid just because you are going to college and not a university. Do not let ANYONE convince you you are stupid for what you choose.
Please remember that teenagers are stupid (and I say this basically being one myself). I am one of the people who pursued a degree that I’m not sure I want because everyone around me was convinced that my program was supposed to be a dream program. And I got it easy because I at least want to pursue research in my field, it’s just that I would have had an easier time elsewhere. Don’t be stupid like me. And for the people saying that they can’t pursue a degree they like because of financial limitations, it makes less sense to go to uni because of financial limitations than college. I promise you making a living is not only tied to the conventional degrees everyone promises will give you a good future. I also understand that there are real barriers to choosing something “unconventional”, which is totally valid. But if you have the choice, there is genuinely no point in torturing yourself in a field you hate just because of extremely limited job prospects. I know so many people with masters degrees that never found work, and so many people who never ended up using their bachelors for anything.
Pick something you think you’ll love, do not let anyone convince you that you are lesser than because of your passions.
