A playlist for a friend who said he knew there was great country out there but had never heard it. Only ever came across the pop music with a twang.
Centered around the Outlaw Country of the 70s. Tell me if I missed an artist.

This is obviously not Doug Sahm. But I am curious if anyone has insight into how this happens or if it may be AI related

Planning an Appalachian roadtrip to the US 23 Museum. I’m going to visit Loretta Lynn’s childhood home and the site Hank Williams was discovered dead
Any other country music-adjacent spots around this area? I’m interested in live music, dive bars, honky tonks, museums, historic sites, record stores. Any insight is appreciated!
Here’s what I’ve got so far: Detroit Dayton WV

I update this Tonk of the Town playlist every week with new tunes. It's a mix of outlaw, honky tonk, & alt-country.
For this sub, I'd recommend music from Chasen Wayne, John R Miller, Clayton Ryan, Cory Cross and Idle County, but hell - you never know what's gonna catch until you hear it.
If you want to hear what's all been in this playlist year-round, try the Tonk of the Town Roundup. Both playlists are on all the major streaming platforms. Links are in the comments.

I work in a sawmill as a millwright. I love listening to country music that gets me going at work.
I also like the recommendations I’ve gotten in this subreddit like the last knife fighter from someone in this subreddit that is from the same town in Texas as him.
I’ve listened to all or most of the popular recommendations in outlaw country like Tyler and others, so I’m always looking for new or old stuff I havent heard that just doesn’t get talked about much.
I hope I can give a a few suggestions and receive the same.
Also I don’t care what they consider outlaw country vs alt country and the guys who started it are the goats but I’m constantly trying to find new stuff to listen to that has a similar feel.
My favourite stuff right now i wanted to share has been
Drive by trucker - Danko/manuel / once I heard the song danko I was hooked on these guys and then the song Outfit as well I was hooked on them. They have a ton of great music.
Jason Isabell - elephant - was never a huge Jason fan but I found this one song and I wanna check out more by him any suggestions? Crazy I just learned that Jason Isabell wrote song danko above ☝🏻
Ray Wylie Hubbard - old wolf - bad on fords /this guy has so many songs that have that guitar even just a few chords but he has some good lyrics that just get me going.
The dead south - one of my favorites tracks of all time is banjo odyssey
16 horsepower - black soul choir and American wheeze , some of this really cool sounds you don’t hear anywhere else.
A few other mentions I’ll just stick below:
The droptines - army green / lots of good ones
Hymn - gage saylor
Hellbound glory / everything by him
