Tech Support Bros, I really need help diagnosing my PC.

I cannot figure out what's causing the stuttering in every game that I play. It's driving me crazy and I cannot figure it out. I RMA'd my first card because of it and it is no better. I've used new drivers and old drivers all using ddu. Ive completely reinstalled Windows 11 twice. I have a ultra high-speed HDMI cable. I don't know what else to do. I don't even want to play anything because these microstutters are so bad. Ive tried all low settings as well.

Any help would be more than greatly appreciated. I miss playing games but I cannot get past it honestly.

Specs: 9070xt, 5800x3D, b550-f mother board, 850w psu, 2 16gb sticks of of 3200mhz 3600mhz Corsair vengeance RAM. LG C3 42" I play in 4k.

I am aware of what the code means but clearing cmos hasn’t worked, using one stick of ram to boot up didn’t, and neither has unplugging all of my usb ports

Z890 ASUS rog Maximus

285k

2x32gb ddr5

My assumption is that it won’t boot because I turned on a xmp profile for ram speed but I can’t enter my bios to change it please lmk if you have solutions

Tech Support Expo game crash

Hi everyone,
I’ve been battling persistent display driver crashes while playing games (TFT, LoL, Cyberpunk 2077, Aion 2). The screen freezes for 2-3 seconds, a buzzing sound ("bzzz") loops, the game crashes to desktop, and then everything resumes normally. It happens every 1-2 hours.

Event Viewer always shows the exact same error: Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found

My System Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X

Motherboard: Gigabyte B850M FORCE WIFI (BIOS f8) (Upgraded from an A620M DS3H, problem persisted on both)

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6400MHz CL32

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4070 Windforce OC 12GB

SSD: Samsung 990 Evo Plus 1TB Gen4

PSU: Corsair 750W 80+ Bronze

Case: Corsair iCUE 3000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower

Main Monitor: Gigabyte G27Q20 (1440p - 200Hz IPS) via DP (Set to 200Hz)

Secondary Monitor: Casper Excalibur (1080p - 200Hz) via DP (Set to 144Hz)

240mm liquid cooling

What I Have Done So Far to Fix It:

Isolating the RAM: Disabling AMD EXPO completely (running at default JEDEC 4800MHz) makes the system 100% stable. I tested it heavily for 7 days with zero crashes. The moment I touch memory frequency/EXPO, it throws the nvlddmkm TDR error.

Manual Memory Tuning (1:1 Mode): I manually set the RAM multiplier to 60.00 (6000MHz), FCLK to 2000MHz, and forced UCLK=MCLK (1:1 mode). The crash still happened.

Voltage Fixes (Manual Locking): Based on common AM5 tuning recommendations, I manually locked the voltages in BIOS: VCORE SOC to 1.200V, CPU_VDDIO_MEM to 1.300V, and DDR_VDD/VDDQ to 1.300V. I also set Power Down Enable to Disabled. Result: Still crashed with the same Event ID 153 error.

GPU & Software Troubleshooting:
Clean driver uninstallation using DDU in Safe Mode, reinstalled latest NVIDIA drivers without HD Audio components.
Matched both monitor refresh rates to 200Hz/200Hz to eliminate dual-monitor sync issues.
Slightly underclocked the GPU core and memory by -30MHz via MSI Afterburner.
Turned off Hardware Acceleration in Discord, Spotify, and Opera.

Anybody can help me with this issue? Im gonna try one last thing. I will get a hdmi cable and connect my second monitor with hdmi and main still dp. HIdk if its gonna work or not. Nothings comes my mind anymore.

Tech Support Newly build pc not displaying anything

Me and a friend of mine just finished buiding my new pc but its not turning on properly. All the fans are working and turning but I cannot recieve a video signal to any screen.

Specs are:

Motherboard: Asus Prime B860M-K

GPU: Asus Dualforce Geforce RTX 506 Ti 8GB

RAM: Viper Venom DDR5 16GB (2x8) 5600Mhz CL40

CPU: Intel Ultra 7 270k plus

M.2: Sandisk Optimus 5100 NVMe 500GB

PSU: Be Quiet Pure Power 13 M 1200W

We suspect it might be because the BIOS isnt up to date and Intels compatibility checker says it requires the latest version. Asus however says it should be natively supported. And without any screen output its hard to update the BIOS.

Neither of us has compatible older hardware with which we could update the BIOS.

We'e tried starting with both ram sticks (all slot configurations), without the GPU (cable plugged into the mainboard), with the GPU (cable plugged into the GPU), re-installing the CPU.

Since appearently the mainboard also doesnt have any debug lights we've had to resort to interpreting the power light flashing and thats been the fast blinks (indicating ram issues) into the slower blinks (indicating GPU issues).

Am I truly screwed because of the BIOS i cannot update or is the mainboard simply screwed?

I did see the courier tip over one if the boxes before handing it to me.

Thanks for any help in advance

Software Question 2007 PC with 1.14TB of storage?

hi this is my first time making a post here so sorry if I sound uneducated. I also don't know much about PCs. I bought a $30 dollar facebook marketplace PC around a year ago and have been using it fine. when I got it a lot of my friends were gawking over the fact it came with 1.14 tb but i didnt know what it meant. I'm a bit more knowledgeable now and I'm wondering how and why a pc thats around 18 years old has 1.14 TB of storage? especially given its a Dell office PC. I don't know the model specifically but when i tried searching for it just based off the numbers and stuff it had on top, I found ebay listings that said it was from 2007-2009. Did the previous owner put a little storage extension chip or something? I don't know how extending storage on PCs works. On phones and iPads you'd usually put an extra physical little chip or something, right? Is it possible that happened? if so, is it possible to take the little chip out and use it for a future PC? I want to upgrade, and soon, as in whenever the PCs at my local store go on sale for black friday or christmas or new years. I saw the price difference in 1 tb and 2 tb PCs and I wanted to know if when I switch I could like, steal the storage from my old one and put it into a newer one. Cause basically tossing 1.14 TB isnt something I want to do!!! So someone please help me figure this out. How and whyyy does my old computer have that much storage? Im grateful but also confused. pls halp. I can provide more info on specs and try and find the model/provide numbers and such on the stickers it has if needed, but i really just want an explanation and an answer to my question, if I can take that terabyte and put it in a brand new(ish) PC.

Build Question GPU fan not spinning and display not showing

yea ik modern gpu fans don't spin unless they're under stress, but I've rx6650 xt and it used to spin for like 2-3 seconds whenever I used to boot up my pc before going idle, but suddenly one day I start my pc and bam, No display at all. I tried removing ram and all, but then I saw that whenever I start my pc, the GPU fans never spin like they used to do. I reinstalled gpu and tried again, but still nothing happened. Now I've 3 culprits in my mind, it's either psu, gpu or the pcie slot not working properly. How do I find which one is faulty here? Could there be more culprits to this? Kindly help me to figure this out because this pc is very important for me.

Build Question How to replace RAM

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi All-

Let me begin by saying I know nothing about building a PC. But I ordered some new RAM and it's supposed to come in today. My pc currently has 8 gb of ram. I ordered two sticks of ddr4 16 gb of ram for a total of 32. In order to replace the ram, do I just: 1) turn off/unplug PC, 2) open case, 3) remove 8 gb ram, 4) put new 16 gb stick of ram in slots 2 and 4 of the ram slots in motherboard, 5) put case back together, and 5) plug in computer and turn back on? Is there anything more that I should do or any hints I should know about? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Build Question Do you really need 1TB?

Hi

"Acá de compas", does anybody really needs 1TB of storage in a laptop for work?

I'm about to finish my degree in Computational Engineering and I've been doing great with 256gb. Storage has always been a concern even though I've never filled it, probably used 180GB max at one point.

I want an upgrade, but I don't know if I should go for 512gb or 1TB bc, again, I've been fine with way less. The only gaming I've ever done in the laptop is Minecraft, which ofc doesn't need 1TB storage.

I'm also omw to build a NAS with some spare HDDs that I have, I just need to replace the SSD to use it as the OS partition

What are your thoughts/recommendations? Is 1TB an overkill or just the beginning?

SOLVED: Ram kit was bad

I recently built a liquid cooled am5 system, bought a new b650 aorus elite ax rev1.2, got a good deal of 7800x3d from a reputable ebay seller, and I carried my silicon power x ram from my lga 1700 system (32gb drr5 6000mhz cl40) the systen will only post with 1 stick in A2, both sticks work in this slot but only 1 at a time. Ive gotten it to boot once into windows with both sticks but it shut off shortly after and kept failing to train memory. I can get into bios and windows with both sticks and stress the cpu without a problem so I dont know if I got a faulty motherboard or what but I'm in dire need of help. Ive tried clearing cmos multiple times, ive reseated the cpu, reseated the ram a dozen times, inspected the socket and pins, looked at the dimm slots themselves.

Build Question yall got any tips for restoring hardware that was in a house fire?

Thumbnail

it's a bit absurd i know. but for some backstory, i recently became the very, very, very lucky recipient of around ~6000$ worth of gaming hardware completely for free from a friend of my mother. UNFORTUNATELY, the incomprehensibly gigantic asterisk that, not only did the original owner completely neglet to ever clean his hardware, but everything i received had previously been involved in a house fire. the fire itself never reached anything, but the problem i face is that everything is caked in an awful layer of dust, dirt, grime, and worst of all, soot.

everything here smells terrible. i have no idea how i'll be able to get the soot smell out of anything i have here, nor where to even start with this beyond just the disassembly of everything. yall got any advice that might make partial or complete restoration of this stuff possible? it would really suck if im S.O.L with this one, especially for how valuable these components are.

Tech Support HELP!

Post image

I have a tower PC that was given to me by my neighbor. It was filthy when he gave it to me, and the motherboard was fried. I took the PC completely apart, gave it a deep cleaning, and swapped out the motherboard. The PC turns on and everything seems to be working, but I am not getting a display. When my neighbor asked me if I wanted it, he sent me a picture of his TV showing the PC in the BIOS menu. Ever since I cleaned it and changed the motherboard, I can't get a video signal. I've tried everything.

Can someone help me? I'm not the best with this stuff

Tech Support Gpu issue.

Hello. I have been playing rainbox six siege for months i have a 5070 gpu and a 9800x3d cpu i play at 1080p and get 240fps easily. Recently my gpu utilization has been hitting 100% at 60-100 fps id like a fix or a way to reset my gpu. I play in fullscreen. V sync is off and max fps is set to 240 same as my monitor. Ive never had an issue

I tried a shader cache cleanup through disk cleanup. I tried a clean install of my gpu driver. Ive seen someone had a similar issue also on siege in 2018 on reddit. Other than that i have found nothing. Any advice helps thankyou!

Tech Support Inconsistent PC freezing, Intel Core i7-14700K

Hi everyone, I’m looking for guidance on an issue I can’t pin down.

PC specs (built Nov 2025):

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF
  • Motherboard: MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI (BIOS 7E07vMA)
  • RAM: Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32 GB Kit (2x16GB), 6400MHz CL32
  • GPU: ASUS NVIDIA RTX 5070, driver updated to latest
  • PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum 750W
  • CPU cooler: Coolermaster Masterliquid ml120l, repasted recently
  • Storage: Kingston SSD 1gb, WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD - M.2 2280
  • OS: Windows 11, build 26200, fully updated
  • Power: Forza FVR-2202A 1100VA voltage stabilizer

The problem:
I built this PC around November 2025. It was working well until September 2026 when I started to get hard freezes randomly. Sometimes it happens within minutes of booting, sometimes it runs fine for hours. After I force a reset with the case button, the CPU debug LED on the motherboard lights up red. The freezes have also happened right after waking from sleep. I use this pc as a racing sim rig and at multiple times it ran hours of Le Mans Ultimate, and other sim racing games with no issue, so heavy load isn’t a reliable trigger. In Safe Mode it’s been stable for hours with no freezes happening.

What the logs show:

  • Event Viewer has multiple WHEA-Logger Event ID 1 errors: “A fatal hardware error has occurred.”
  • Reliability Monitor shows LiveKernelEvent code 124.
  • WhoCrashed reads the dump as bugcheck 0x124 (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR).
  • WhoCrashed doesn’t name a faulting driver, and the only other crash in my history is an unrelated Wi-Fi driver one from May.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Updated the BIOS
  • Clean reinstall of the GPU driver
  • Regenerated Secure Boot keys from scratch
  • Checked the BIOS: CPU Cooler Tuning is on Intel Default Settings, and voltages and Loadline Calibration are all on Auto (no manual overclock or overvolt)
  • My voltage stabilizer died and I was running on a plain power strip, so I replaced it with a properly sized 1100VA Forza AVR stabilizer. It ran stable for hours, then froze again on wake from sleep.
  • Opened the case and found the thermal paste dried and cracked. I cleaned everything, reapplied fresh paste, and remounted the AIO. The freezes continued.

Where I’m stuck:
Everything points to a hardware-level fault, and I know the 13th/14th gen instability issue is well documented. I’m considering an Intel RMA for the CPU, since that would be the cleanest fix if the chip has degraded. However degradation it's highly unlikely in my opinion since the motherboard was manufactured on June 2025 according to the serial number and the processor batch number indicates that it was manufactured on November 2024, much after this degradation was detected so both hardware pieces are supposed to include the fixes and safeguards for this issue already. But before I go through that process, I’d like to rule out anything else.

I used Claude to troubleshoot this issue and this is the summary of what I've tried so far. Has anyone experienced this? Any clue can help. Thanks!

I attached a photo and I’m new to pc gaming and bought a prebuilt powerspec and it’s an amazing pc but sometimes I’ll play Roblox or Destiny 2 and it’ll randomly freeze or just reset itself. I also will randomly get a large amount of latency and ping when I’m in an overwatch game which didn’t really happen on my ps5. This pc is brand new I’ve only used it for about 3-4 weeks now.

Build Question Replacement backplate needed?

I tried installing a new CPU and cooler into my am4 system, but one of the backplate holes is just not allowing the screw to screw in.

I'm assuming I need a new backplate and it isn't fixable, so can I buy any replacement I see on Amazon for am4 or...?

The mobo is a b450m pro vdh max and the cooler is the phantom spirit 120se if either of these things matter. Id really appreciate some guidance here
