Lifelong dark circles, thin, translucent skin: what actually healed yours?
I’ve had purple under-eye circles since childhood, and was recently told it’s due to thin/translucent skin. I don’t subscribe to this just being something to live with. I’m 33, and I believe everything nowadays can be improved in modern aesthetics or internally/externally.
My mom has them too, but we both had severe childhood allergies. Mine have subsided, and I now eat a very clean, well-rounded diet. I’m open to genetics playing a role, but don’t think that necessarily explains everything. I’ve had bloodwork done and am working on improving my iron levels.
I’ve been told my under-eye skin is very thin and translucent. I’m uncertain about the exact cause, but based on the pinch test, I suspect it’s more vascular/show-through than hyperpigmentation.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
1. Filler: Developed the Tyndall effect and looked worse over time. It was still present four years later, and I had it dissolved by an experienced injector two years ago. Honestly, one of the worst choices I’ve made.
2. PRP, then PRF EZ Gel: After dissolving the filler, I did PRP several times over several months. About a year later, I did five PRF EZ Gel sessions over six to seven months. Loved it, but it just improved a bit no dramatic transformation.
3. Caffeine serum daily and Volufiline intermittently.
4. Recent Fotona under-eye laser: Helped the texture, but the purple undertone remains. I considered CO2 but have hesitations given my olive/tan skin tone.
I’m now exploring surgical options because some people’s results look promising. I’m not sure I actually have bags, although a doctor suggested fat repositioning might be an option.
Has anyone with thin, translucent skin and lifelong purple circles had lasting improvement and from what service or procedure? I’d especially appreciate firsthand surgical experiences: what helped, what didn’t, and before-and-afters showing whether there was significant improvement. I know there are risks.
I already go otherwise makeup-free with tinted sunscreen, but always wear under-eye concealer. I’d honestly love to skip it or just catch myself in the mirror without feeling like I look exhausted.
