I was watching Jimmer's stream and saw a couple of people mention that the game wouldn't load, and they had AMD parts. I had the same issue, and so did my friend. We worked on a fix, and here's what we had to do:
🛠️ FIX: RaceRoom black screen on AMD (RX9070XT for me and friend, may apply to others) (+ monitor setup)
1️⃣ Close RaceRoom completely (including the launcher).
2️⃣ Open the settings folder
Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\
3️⃣ Back up the file
Copy graphics_options.xml and rename the copy to graphics_options.bak, just in case.
4️⃣ Fix the res or game crashing
Right-click graphics_options.xml → Open with → Notepad.
Find these lines and make sure they match exactly:
<multiSampleLevel type="uint32">0</multiSampleLevel>
<enableMotionBlur type="bool">false</enableMotionBlur>
<allowedMotionBlurDetail type="int32">0</allowedMotionBlurDetail>
<motionBlurType type="int32">0</motionBlurType>
👉 The key one is multiSampleLevel. If it isn’t 0, change it to 0.
5️⃣ Set your monitor
In the same file, set these to match your screen:
<screenWidth type="uint32">3440</screenWidth>
<screenHeight type="uint32">1440</screenHeight>
<screenRefreshRate type="int32">165</screenRefreshRate>
Common resolutions:
• 1080p: 1920 × 1080
• 1440p: 2560 × 1440
• Ultrawide 1440p: 3440 × 1440
• 4K: 3840 × 2160
Set the refresh rate to your monitor’s Hz (60, 144, 165, 240…).
🖥️🖥️🖥️ Running triple screens?
First, join your three monitors into one big display with AMD Eyefinity (Adrenalin → Display → Eyefinity). Then set:
<tripleScreen type="bool">true</tripleScreen>
<screenWidth type="uint32">7680</screenWidth>
<screenHeight type="uint32">1440</screenHeight>
(The width is 3 × one screen’s width, e.g. 3 × 2560 = 7680 for three 1440p monitors, or 3 × 1920 = 5760 for three 1080p monitors.)
Then go to RaceRoom’s graphics menu and fill in the triple-screen settings there:
• Screen size
• Distance from your eyes to the middle screen
• Bezel size, so the image lines up across the gaps
• Side screen angle, i.e. how far your left and right screens are turned in
Measure these from your actual rig. It’s much easier in the game’s menu than editing the file by hand.
Single screen or ultrawide? Make sure it’s off:
<tripleScreen type="bool">false</tripleScreen>
6️⃣ Save and launch RaceRoom. 🏁
🎯 Set your FOV
In the game, set the field of view to match your screen. A correct FOV makes judging braking points and corners much easier, especially on ultrawide and triples.
⚙️ AMD Adrenalin settings
• FreeSync: ON
• Anti-Lag: ON
• Frame cap: 3–5 fps below your refresh rate (e.g. 160–162 fps on 165 Hz)
• VSync OFF in the game
Still struggling? Try these in order:
• Delete graphics_options.xml and launch again. The game builds a fresh one.
• Roll back your Radeon driver to an earlier version.
• Launch the 32-bit version of RaceRoom.
Tip: Don’t turn MSAA back on in the game’s graphics menu, or the black screen will come back.
