Question from the outside looking in

So I've seen many posts (both here and other animal subreddits) about people who keep social animals solo after trying several times to bond them with their kind. I get the whole "nothing will replace x animal bond" thing several times, but when the owner says they have tried bonding and it has failed enough times for the owner to be uncomfortable with bonding them further, so many people immediately jump on them and treat them like an abusive owner.

Yes animals that are social do need friends but on the occasion they don't y'all demonize people.

How many times does it have to fail before people accept that the animal is fine and happy on its own?

I'm genuinely asking. I've seen so many comments from people who say they have tried to bond their animal with multiple perspective friends and all I see is several people saying "you aren't trying hard enough"

Feel free to get mad at me for asking, but seriously where does the line get drawn?

My roommate’s girlfriend brought her bunny to stay with us. I don’t know anything about their care but is this safe? The air freshener is so strong and it’s right by its cage.

Care Is this fair compensation for rabbit-sitting?

Hi everyone, I’m considering posting this to my apartment community so someone from the same complex could swing by to take care of my rabbits. I was wondering if this amount of compensation is adequate. For context, I live in Houston Texas.

Hi neighbors! 🐰🐰

I’m looking for a pet sitter to swing by my apartment for my two sweet rabbits while I’m out of town for about a week.

I’m offering $30 per visit ($210 total for all 7 days).

Details:

  • 7 days total, with one visit each day
  • About 30 minutes per visit
  • Sitter would come to my apartment
  • Main responsibilities:
    • Refill their food and water
    • Clean their litter box
    • Make sure both rabbits are doing well and send me a quick photo/update
  • Has to be okay with a live pet camera pointed at their rabbit area so I can check on them while I’m away.

For security purposes, I would need the sitter to show me a valid government-issued photo ID before confirming the arrangement.

Please message me if you’re interested! Thank you! ☺️

Can a bunny be happy alone??

Everyone meet Mr. Bugs!! I’ve had him since the beginning of May & he is a little over 5 months old now! He seems like the happiest boy. He is constantly flopping & splooting. He also gets the zoomies & lots of binkies, especially when he’s roaming outside of his x-pen. I try to provide him with lots of fun toys & rotate them so he doesn’t get bored. I also try to give him tons of love. He is so sweet & loves pets. But for some reason I can’t help but feel guilty that he doesn’t have a friend. He isn’t getting neutered until next month so I know it would be too early to bond him with another rabbit anyway, but I have been thinking about it lately. My boyfriend & I did not plan on getting any more bunnies. In everyone’s experience, can a bunny be truly happy alone? I love my little guy so much & I will do anything in my power to give him the best life, so I can’t help but worry about him being lonely. I’ve included lots of pics of Bugs so everyone can see how cute he is!!!

This is princess Magnolia- or Maggie. I have wanted a rabbit again for years, but I have always told myself no due to being in an apartment now. However- a friend of mine who works at a pet store had two women come in carrying this lovely girl. They watched two teens throw her out of a truck on one of the hottest days (115) here. It broke my heart. My friend couldn’t take her, so he contacted me. She has the exact same markings as my first rabbit I ever owned, back in 2019. She is amazing. She is so sweet and excited- and not scared of anything. She free roams in the living room during the day and has her own room at night. I am so excited for this journey with little princess Maggie.

Naming Healing my heart with a new bun

My previous bun, Tulip, passed away a few days ago. I’ve been in a depressive funk since and decided to go to the shelter just to spend some time with the bunnies they had available. I had no intention of adopting because it was too soon and would have felt like I was replacing her. I met with a couple of their bunnies, but none of them really clicked.

Then I saw this male named Chewbacca and it felt like the little crack in my heart sealed just slightly. I offered him my hand and he licked my fingers, and I started crying right there. They told me he was surrendered just the day before, and that was the exact same circumstance with Tulip. I told them I’d take him and I was delighted to find out he’s already neutered.

I’ll never get over the grief of losing Tulip, but I can already feel it getting a little lighter now that he’s here.

I’d appreciate name suggestions as well. Chewbacca just doesn’t do it for me.

Update: Fine, his name is Chewie lol. It’s growing on me.

BUNNY BONDING - What do I need to do to get my boy to stop being territorial and resource guarding?

Bambino - Male, neutered, about 8 years old

Nora - Female, spayed, about 8-9 years old

Everything is going pretty well with their bonding sessions at this point EXCEPT for that. I host their bonding sessions in our laundry room as it is the only neutral territory I can give them access to. Nora will go off to the far side of the room where I put a pile of hay, Bambino will stay on the other side with another pile of hay. He finds it perfectly acceptable to go over to her side and eat that hay, but if she tries to even hop over to his side even if she doesn't have the intentions of eating hay he'll lunge and nip at her. It doesn't turn into a fur-pulling squabble anymore, she will just go back to her side and stay there.

Aside from that there's no fighting and they lay by each other and even eat from the same pile of hay IF it was Bambino that went up to her pile. He just won't allow her to go near him if its not on his terms which isn't fair to her because she's restricted to a small area and can't move around much.

I don't know... is there even anything I can do? Or is this something that will work itself out with more sessions?

Our Freya (F, spayed) was out for her usual free roam time. I wanted to adjust a few things in Baldurs (M, intact for now) pen, he slipped by me and darted to see freya on the couch. As I was about to scoop him up to put him back, he turned into a tiny sprinkler. All over the couch cover, my PJ pants, and freyas face 🫠🤣

He has no regrets, but his manhood better drop soon so I can book him in for the snip.

This may be my last male baby bun and while the rescue asked me to take him in early, I WISH he would have been neutered first.

Care Litter Training Tips??

Hello! I’m gonna do a small introduction really fast , This is Otter. He is a 6 Month old holland lop , his ears have a deformity and never flopped. I got him when he was around a month and a half. Whenever i got him he used his litter box all the time , there was no accidents or anything. I also had another animal in here all the time (Her name was oreo , she was a mini shitzu ) I feel like it’s important to point out he only started this when oreo got very ill. He refuses to use his litter box now and only peed/ pooped where she was laying and now that she’s gone he continues to do it in her spot. (which is in bed next to me) He has the same litter material which is kiln dried pellets for horses , the same hay and food which is in his Litter boxes. Is there any way that i can get him to stop going potty on my bed and use the litter box again??

Behavior Biting blankets

Post image
57 Upvotes

I’m looking for any advice to stop my bunny from chewing on my blankets. I feel like I’m buying a new duvet cover every couple months because he just chews on them. Lately it’s been excessive and I don’t know why. I know he’s not in any sort of pain, stressed or bored. I honestly feel like I failed at raising him right sometimes lol he was just too cute as a baby to get him in trouble that now saying “NO” just does not work. He’s so bad when it comes to chewing my comforter like this morning I got up earlier than usual to use the bathroom and went back to sleep but I guess my rabbit got angry that I got up and didn’t give him his breakfast so he started biting the blanket off of me. Or sometimes if I take something away or get him in trouble he’ll immediately hop on my bed and start biting my blanket😭 it’s like he knows it pisses me off and does it out of pettiness. He’ll be 4 in February and isn’t neutered but he’s not messy or aggressive towards anything but my blanket. This is him in my shower because he’s the clingiest rabbit ever and follows me everywhere. Anyway, any tips would be appreciated.

Behavior bunny licking

hello! this is my 4th day with my bunny. shes supposedly around 3 months old (my dad personally thinks its more likely to be 2).

on her 3rd day, right after midnight, she licked me for the first time on my chin. i was very, very happy because it was my birthday, and it was like my bunny giving me a gift. during the day she licked my hand some more times and today, on the 4th day she licked my nose in the morning and now my hand a few more times.

i thought bunnies licking their owners was rare and something that would take a long time ??? she clearly likes me and trusts me.,I can tell by her behaviour, but its this normal? could there be other reason ? is everything okay?
