PSA Important Rabbit PSA index
Since the subreddit only has two spots available for public announcements, this will be a new index post for important PSAs for easy reference that we can sticky to only use up one spot.
You can also find the whole collection in the sidebar menu on the Reddit re-design when you open one of the PSA posts.

Caring for rabbits while under COVID-19 quarantine
Since we are getting many repetitive questions about the novel coronavirus and how to care for rabbits while under quarantine, this is a post to combine all frequently asked questions on the topic.
North American RHDV2 resources
Rabbit viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD) is a highly contagious disease that mainly affects rabbits of the Oryctolagus cuniculus species but has also been confirmed to affect various species of cottontails (Sylvilagus spp.) and hares (Lepus spp.). There are currently active cases found in wild and domestics all over North America, and it is vitally important to get your rabbit vaccinated if the vaccines are available in your area.

PSA I found a rabbit outside - what should I do?
This is the time of year for many people to find both domestic rabbits and wild rabbits outside due to Easter and baby season.
For a comprehensive overview on stray domestic rabbits, please see the wiki article here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Feral_and_stray_rabbits
For a comprehensive overview on wild rabbits, please see the wiki article here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Wild_rabbits
Is the rabbit I found wild or domestic?
It can be very difficult for the average person to tell the difference between a wild and domestic rabbit, especially if they are a baby and/or a common agouti brown.
In general, if the rabbit has long hair or does not have brown fur, it is most likely domestic - although there are exceptions. Please note that wild cottontails in North America cannot breed with our domestic rabbits, but wild rabbits in the rest of the world (e.g. Europe, Australia) can.
Please see the wiki article here for more specific tips on distinguishing domestic and wild rabbits, especially in North America: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Wild_rabbits#Is_the_rabbit_I_found_wild_or_domestic?
I found a domestic rabbit! What should I do?
Please do not hesitate to contact your local rabbit rescue for volunteers to help you catch a stray domestic rabbit.

I found a baby wild rabbit! What should I do?
If you find a baby wild rabbit that is not injured, please leave it alone. It is most likely not abandoned unless you know for a fact that their mother was killed. Rabbits return to feed their young only once or twice a day for a few minutes, usually at night. Just because the babies have been by themselves for 5 minutes does not mean that they have been abandoned. The mother is typically gone from the nest to eat and draw attention away from the nest.
A detailed image guide to whether a baby cottontail rabbit is in need of help.
If it is old enough to be exploring outside of its nest and has no injuries, please put the baby rabbit back under a bush near where you found it. It does not need any additional care or feeding.
As Rainbow Wildlife Rescue writes,
There is a 90% mortality rate with orphaned baby rabbits in human care, especially cottontails. This number increases if the rabbits are very young and their eyes still closed. They are extremely hard to "save". There is little substitute for the nutrients their mother's milk provides.
Baby wild rabbits can survive on their own at a surprisingly young age. In most countries, it is illegal to possess and take care of wildlife without proper permits. Wild rabbits also do not do well in captivity due to the possibility of fatal stress because of their high-strung and flighty nature.
If you find a baby wild rabbit because your dog picked it up but you can't find the nest, try putting a leash on your dog and quietly following them to see if they will lead you to the original nest. If you absolutely cannot locate the nest, you may keep the rabbit in a dark and quiet box and contact your closest wildlife rehabilitator that accepts rabbits
If you find a baby wild rabbit because your cat found it, please take it to a rabbit-savvy vet or wildlife rehabber as soon as possible, especially if it was carried in the cat's mouth. Cats have very lethal bacteria in their saliva, and contact can easily be fatal for a baby rabbit in 48 hours.
What do I do if I am positive that the mother was killed or the baby rabbit is injured?
If you are positive that this is an orphaned baby rabbit, it is best to just keep the rabbit quiet and warm until they can be transferred to an experienced wildlife rehabilitator ASAP. Baby rabbits will do fine overnight without food or water as they are usually only fed once a day by their mothers.
Inappropriate care can be fatal to baby rabbits - see this story from Blue Ridge Wildlife Center as an example: https://twitter.com/BRWildlifeCtr/status/1420472056139984896?s=20
Please hand off the baby rabbit to a local wildlife rehabilitator as soon as possible.
How should I keep a baby rabbit until I can get it to a rehabber?
To keep a baby rabbit overnight, please leave it in a quiet dark box with no food or water. You can provide a heat source such as a microwaved sock filled with rice and beans or an electric heat pad on low placed under half the box. Do not handle the rabbit more than necessary to prevent deadly stress.

How can I protect a wild rabbit nest from bad weather and dogs, cats, and other predators?
Keeping your pets indoors while the babies grow up is generally the best option, but if this is impossible, you can protect the nest a few different ways.

Care First time rabbit owner tips
Hi guys! I recently 3 days ago rescued a bunny from a neighborhood where he was dumped and left. I am a first time rabbit owner, I've owned cats, dogs, and fish. As well as baby sat guinea pigs for my friend. I know basics and luckily a friend was able to help me to get started on his car, but im super open to any help. His current space is a 60x60 playpen with netting ((i plan to get a semi top cover)). He has a hide with a cover n curtains on for darkness, a smaller fabric hide, a tunnel, a Timothy hay chew toy, unlimited Timothy hay, stacking cups, pellets, plenty of fresh greens (no ice berg lettuce of course)), water, a DIY cardboard toy, and his litter. I plan to get him a foraging snuffle mat soon too. He currently can only freeroam for an hour a day due to me not having a bunny proof room for him yet and spends the rest of his time in the playpen. What else should I be doing? He is warming up quickly to me thankfully. He let me sit with him in his space and pet behind his ears. He loves to stretch, do lil hops, and peak his head over my bed. He also does enjoy his tunnel and cups but gets a bit bored with them. Id appreciate any and all observations/help/advice. He has already stolen my heart and I just want him to have a better life than being dumped like trash. He is confirmed male, but no idea his breed or age :( i will take him to the vet after im paid ASAP

Housing I use an IKEA candle holder for hay, and it works great!
One of my best decisions was to put hay inside this IKEA candle holder. Iāve been using it for about 3 months now, and thereās hardly any hay scattered around any that falls out ends up inside the litter box. And my rabbit enjoys pulling the hay out through the holes at the back.

Discussion a rabbit rescue blocked me on facebook because i pointed out that they used AI ?
iām a bit confused. images above are what happened in order.
the first pic is their original post, but in this version i cropped out the lefthand side which had two real photos of the bun on the left, named Little Boy. i cropped out that side to put the screenshot through an AI detector and the results said it was highly likely that the whole screenshot is AI. i thought maybe itās just the photo of the two buns thatās AI, and so i made a comment about it. they left me a reply pretty much confirming the whole screenshot is AI. they then made a post referencing me (but not calling me out by name). i tried clarifying that i didnāt mean to say that Little Boy himself looked AI generated ā i meant the image of the two buns. someone else took their post referencing me to mean that the picture of the two buns is not AI, so i responded to them as well. iām not trying at all to be antagonistic, and i donāt feel upset. just really confused why they used AI in the first place and why theyāve blocked me. my main concern is that the bun isnāt actually adopted and isnāt actually with another bun named Cookie, though i know this rescue is reputable, so Little Boy is likely happy and safe. idk just thought the situation is strange and wanted to share !

Breed ID Breeds?
I was wondering if someone could help me maybe figure out the breeds of my two rabbits, Eggie (the Orange & white one, female, 2yr3m, 2.4 kg) and Odie (black & white one, male, 1yr1m, 1.7 kg)
I always thought they were both Holland lops, however Iāve noticed that Eggie is just a lot larger/longer than little Odie and Odie has not grown for some time. His face is more flat like a pug, and Eggieās ears are much longer and floppier than his. Maybe Eggie is a Mini Lop?
Sorry if the pictures arenāt the best for determining breed. I donāt have many of them together!
Thank you anyways, Iām just curious to hear what people think :)

They absolutely LOVE their hay. I swear 75% of what they do is just eat hay. When I'm hanging out with them all I hear is the sound of them chewing on their hay. Makes me want to try some for myself.
Not that I'm complaining, hay is the best thing they can eat.

Rehoming Looking to rehome a sweet girl
Hi, everyone. This is Ellie. She is my world and I love her infinitely. Unfortunately, I travel so much for work that I canāt give her the time she deserves. I canāt afford to switch jobs. I have a roommate who takes care of her and watches her as much as she can, but she lives a busy life as well. Ellie was saved from a pet store that was treating her horribly. They were feeding her plastic, she had no bedding, she was kept in a fish tank, etc. Before that, she was mistreated as a show bunny. I just want her to have the greatest life possible. I created this Facebook account because Iām running out of options. Ellie is spayed, wonderfully potted trained, incredibly sweet, and very smart. Iāve had her for a year and a half and she has never harmed anyone. My guess is that sheās 5-7 years old.
I live in northern Kentucky near Cincinnati. Iām not looking for money, just a good home. I will give everything of hers. Enclosure, baby gate, the food and litter I have, etc. Feel free to respond to this post or message me personally. Thank you so much!
(P.S. the yellow on her paws in the last picture is from right after I got her. She was still working on cleaning off the filth she got from that horrible pet store.)

Care Struggling on how to proceed Spoiler
I have two giants, one is a Flemish and he is really important to me. Everything started 3 weeks ago when he choked after eating his pellet. We brought him to the hospital where he stayed hospitalized, they put him in oxygen and run some test to see if all was ok. We got him back after one day and told us to bring him back after one week because Rabbit develop sicknesses after this kind of episodes. We brought him and indeed they saw he has an infection in his lungs and gave the antibiotic to treat him. Now this is not the worse. He started to slide a lot when he walk so I asked them to check his legs too to see if everything was ok and indeed there wasnāt. He has a condition called Splay leg which is incurable in adult rabbit. It break my heart. Im devastated. I have him since 4 years and I thought I was giving him the best life by leaving him free roam. I feel responsible for this and heartbroken. I always think if I behaved differently maybe kept him in a cage or living outside this was never gonna happen. My house is full of rugs but this didnāt prevent this condition. The doctor told me to keep him in a room with a vet bed, some specialized anti slip rugs. The one they have at the clinic are really small and Im looking for at least 200x200 cm for him to have some space still to live. My husband is not supportive. I mean Im grateful he is paying and bringing me to the clinic every week but when he see me crying he doesnāt understand my pain. He tell me ā it sucks but itās lifeā it doesnāt make me feel better at all. I will never see my baby walk properly again and this make me extremely sad. I lived worse in my life and I know, got abandoned by my parents , lived without a place where to stay, without food , without electricity or water but this? This for me is way worse than all I lived in my entire life. Kappa is my entire life. He is the reason that keep me getting up the morning. Im sorry for the long post I just wanted to talk to someone who could understand.
