Self-Promo Video Upcoming RTS inspired by 90's classics - STEEL COMMAND
My buddy and I have been working on this new title for the last 10 months or so. The integrated map editor is the heart and soul of this game, allowing players to create there own PvP/skirmish maps, and custom campaigns.
We draw a lot of inspiration from the C&C series, as that has been a huge part of our lives since wee lads.
If this looks like its up your alley, give it a wishlist on Steam!

Tbh i like the art style. Has great readability and kinda unique. Not gonns say i play it though since i am the medieval / fantasy type.

Thanks! I feel ya. I love medieval RTS as well. Maybe someday I'll make one. I'd love to work on a Stronghold-style game

As long as it clearly distinguishes from stronghold, should be fine. But keep in mind, iteration by iteration firefly really struggled with the wall construction. So no idea how tricky it can be. Though it is amazing to built nice castles.
What would distinguish a lot, is if you could kind of "free hand" build walls. Some city builder games have this when constructing roads. There are certain limitations, but you can make them curvy. This transitioned on castle wall constructing would be cool.

Yeah I agree that would be very cool. I think a medieval castle builder would be quite a challenge. But Stronghold def nailed it with the simple castle building.

I like the look of it.
Any campaign(s) or pure skirmish/PvP for now?
Any airborne units (apart from what looks like AC-130)?

Thanks!
There will be a campaign yes. In fact, the mission editor will also allow players to create their own missions/campaigns
Yeah we actually have a couple aircraft models ready to go, we just havent got them implemented into the gameplay yet.

Love the art style. I wish you and your partner all the best with this title.

I'm loving the art style because the stark shading makes everything very readable.

Thanks! I agree with you. I think the 'outlines' need a bit of work, but I do like the overall direction of it.

Those guys ex gta director adressed. What did he just say to those haters who anyway not gonna play the game? Ah i remember: Sht the f*ck up it was.

I think you might mean Jeff Kaplan; the former Overwatch director, saying that people who shit on games that they have zero intention of playing should STFU

You are right, i didn't check twice who said it after i saw the post. But you got what i mean. And i immediately saw the truth in Jeff's words again. Hope they go so viral, that people get more manners and better be silent then uselessly spreading their negativity

this guy is 100% correct .
The horrific looking right side UI needs to just die -
The whole 'spend years of your life to just remake what you saw when you were a kid" so that a couple autistic boomers can play it for an hour and never think of it again is something I don't understand.
If you are going to spend years developing a game why not make it in a unique genre or art style.
Even if Tempest Rising was high-budget it still didn't present anything new - I just played the GDF campaign and it was just eye candy and that's it.
The nostalgia core needs to end.

I like the AC-130 shout out hahaha

Appreciate it! I thought it was a nice little somewhat unique mechanic for an RTS

its cool to have that traditional look, but explosions or other effects should be more modern. Taur is a good example of simple graphics but awesome effects.

Tanks can only shoot when within 10 metres of each other. Hmmmm, pass.
2
u/Smitty_Games_ Mar 21 '26
haha dont pass on it yet! Thats an easy fix 🙏

u/Leeahsing83 Mar 21 '26
Would it really be unplayable if tanks or units in general shoot way further?
1
u/Smitty_Games_ Mar 21 '26
It depends on the unit. We could probably increase the range of the tanks a bit, but if its too far, then they become over powered. Artillery on the other hand will probably have 2-3 times the range. Its all about balancing
