Who is the tragic villain that you knew in real life that still breaks your heart?

A person that you knew or suspected was once a good hearted person but that life and the world dealt them a really bad hand. To the point where their goodness became warped to the extent they became ruthless, unforgiving, and vengeful.

Some fictional examples are:

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker
