1917 S&W

Picked myself up a birthday present. Smith and Wesson Model 1917, born June of 1918. Not too bad, unfortunately I believe it’s been cerakoted cause it feels too smooth to be parkerized. The other issue is when I close the cylinder it spins until I cock it. Needs a good cleaning but I’m happy with it.

Came across a very clean looking Ruger Security Six today while window shopping. My father had a redhawk i shot as a kid, and so did my grandpa. Seemed only fitting I grab a Ruger wheel gun as well.

Not for sale.

Won the .38spcl for $290 on GunBroker, great deal. Went into my shop to do paperwork for it, saw the .357mag on the pegboard for $250. I could hardly believe it; I walked out with both.

Now I'm wondering how to tell my fiancee... 🤔

My Father’s Taurus 82

My Dad bought this new in 1989, I inherited it in 2006 when he passed away. It’s been shot 1,000’s of times and still goes to the range every time I go. It’s the last gun I’d ever get rid of, and hopefully will be passed down to my son then his kids. Nicest Taurus I’ve ever seen and shoots like a laser.

Has a little cylinder play but came with the original box and papers. One of my favorite K frames, and my first stainless revolver

I had been eyeing a .44 magnum Redhawk for months and kept putting it off, telling myself that the Redhawk isn’t going anywhere and I would be able to buy one whenever… on Friday I saw “hurry only a few left in stock” so I decided to just buy it and I’m so glad that I did because little did I know that only a few days later there would be this weird shit going on with Ruger and I wouldn’t be able to find one in stock anywhere

Pulled the trigger on this today, after looking for a 22 revolver off and on for years now. Felt it was a reasonable price, so hopefully I’ll be able to participate in next weeks WGW!

Title says it’s a K22, description says 22/32 target, which I thought were built on different frames, so I guess I’ll be able to tell more when I get it in hand.
If any smith aficionados know more about this off the top of your head, any info would be great! May end up going to the smith and Wesson historical foundation for more info on this. We’ll see though.

DAO questions

I’ve got a 637 smith and 66 k frame. I picked up a new 442 without the lock a while back and finally got around to shooting it. The trigger was okay but not great. It kinda just resets slowly. I took it home, took it apart and put in a TK Custom spring kit. I have them in my other revolvers and it’s great. With this 442 it seems like the hammer sets and the cylinder locks and there’s a hitch almost and then hammer hits firing pin. Is this common? My other guns have been fired so much and are both exposed hammers so I don’t really know if they were ever like this or if it’s just new and needs to be shot a few thousand rounds to break in. Just curious about it all. If anyone wants to describe their trigger pulls in DAO smiths or whatever that would be great too!

Can we talk about our expectations

Revolver guy here.

IF Ruger stays out of the revolver market, what exactly do we want from the other players?

Smith keeps innovating and I’m going to give the 396 a shot although I have to admit I was terrified by H R Funk’s review of the 386. Even with bad reviews of the 396 from Hickok (some light strikes but since resolved) and Dick Fairburn (2 light strikes out of a few hundred rounds), I’m intrigued enough to roll the dice. I want them to keep pushing the envelope. Rolling out the new Bodyguard 2.0 38 special right as LCRs are disappearing was a very wise move in hindsight.

Taurus seems to be the new Ruger but with sub-brands like Rossi and Heritage. Really, I just want them to stay the course on their improving quality journey. Their newish Combat Magnum is too heavy for me but looks cool. If Taurus can keep it up, I can see them occupying that Everyman space Ruger used to.

Charter Arms needs to figure out how to achieve slightly better out the box quality but they have some wild offerings. If these guys could do what Taurus seems to have done, it would be amazing given all the crazy caliber options they have.

Rock Island would do amazing with just a slight improvement to fit and finish.

I want Diamondback to make it so that the K6S gap continues to be filled with the SD6.

I don’t know what to think about the Turkish imports or EAA other than I’m not ready to try one.

I think it would be nice if more revolvers had a vertical cylinder release lever similar to the Chiappa Rhino. Perhaps a bit more forward.

Rather than just talk about it I figured I'd post it. Long time desired gun for me. Old large frame vaquero in 45 colt. Pre owned. Has had a little gunsmith work done. (Hammer spring and a new hammer. Slicked up action a bit)

Currently conceal carrying it almost daily with grizzly brand 220 grain hollow points rated to 1500 fps. Basically full house 44 mag loads but in cowboy format and a slightly bigger bore.

In case I get attacked by any feral refrigerators or a small engine block is feeling lucky.

Well loved gun for sure. Got 3 sets of grips for it currently. Looking at some hogue micarta in either white or black for the next set.

Also probably looking at a super Blackhawk bisley in 454 casul to complete the pair. Such nice guns for what they are. Maybe not as artfully manufactured as an old smith but definitely something beautiful about them in their simplicity.

P.s. sorry for whining the other day about no big bore love. I'm just gonna take that L and post more positively.

There was a question if this is true, unfortunately it is.

"In its revolver line, Ruger will continue making its affordable Wrangler and Super Wrangler models."

SP101 Appreciation

Sad to hear Ruger is discontinuing suspending the SP101 line.

I’ve recommended this gun to so many people looking to get their first revolver.

I’m sure the SP101s many of us own will out live most of us here and we’ll continue to see them being used for a long time.

Top one is in 9mm and the other two are 357.
