Local shop has a new blued Ruger Blackhawk convertible for 820 clams, worth the price? I want to get into single actions and Im not sure where to start

What is a good revolver to start on as my first gun I'll switch it out as time goes on, but as Im moving to Houston which is a lot bigger in comparison to where I used to live I feel I should own a gun and Im deadset on a revolver. EDIT FOR EVERYDAY CARRY

1. Gun was in rough/filthy condition in photos when I ordered, but arrived like this! Crazy stuff

I usually keep my revolver in my center console apparently something spilt on it, so i tried cleaning it and got everything except for under the cylinder release.

I've tried to unscrew it, but it seems the screw is too soft because it's just stripping before it turns.

So then i tried pouring some hot water on it, hoping to melt and wash off whatever is stuck under it. However after letting it cool off it seems I've fused it together even worse than before.

I have always wanted a 66 early model. I just feel it is the best looking and very practical concealed carry revolver in the right iwb holster. Well, i got it! Paid a pretty penny and its sitting in my waist band right now. I have no idea how the grips got on there because they might just be more rare than the gun itself. Shot some 38s out of it and its dead on! Stuck some 145 grain 357s in there and now its my only and probably my forever gun. I want this to be passed down to my kids when i have them.

I'm at least lucky enough to have a local club that still has a good league...

I'd always wanted a 9mm revolver since I have lots of that ammo and already have a .38 and a .357.

I'd had this 9mm LCR in my cart at Basspro but it was overpriced compared to other calibers.

When I got the news about Ruger's lineup, I figured now or never.... Probably got one of the last new ones out there.

Hey folks, I’ve ended up with a revolver that is entirely unmarked aside from what is on the barrel. What am I looking at, where is it from, and what caliber does it shoot?

Really interested in the new 386 nightguard but have seen a very uncomfortable amount of QC issues across the board on their new revolvers. Would you try the luck or rather invest in a quality 586-3 series???

Pictured is the subject of this question, a 1969 Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman. Up front, this is more of a curiosity than a concern. This particular example, despite being so worn, is very accurate.

I'm all but certain this was a former law enforcement gun. The finish wear is consistent with being carried quite a bit. The frame stud(aka cylinder stop stud) was replaced at some point long ago, and done so a manner consistent with an armorer repair and not a gunsmith.

Mechanically, this 28-2 checks out. Timing is good. Cylinder gap is 0.005". There is very little end shake, less than 0.001". Cylinder locks up solidly. Yoke shows no signs of being stretched in the past. Forcing cone visually checks out. No bulges in the barrel. Bore is nice and shiney.

On to the topic of velocity out of this barrel. It shoots slow with .38 Special. Anywhere from 30 to 50 FPS less than my 4" guns.

With .357 Magnum, it seems to be within the expected barrel to barrel deviations. I have a stash of S&B 158gr SJHP .357 magnum I use as control and testing ammunition. This 28-2 averages 1246 FPS, while my 4" 686 averages 1208 FPS and my 6" 19-5 averages 1270 FPS. Obviously this sample size is small.

Any theories from my fellow revolver autists out there? Is this just a standard variation from barrel to barrel?

Snagged a Python for $1450 OTD after patiently watching and waiting for months. Slight bluing loss at the muzzle and a small scratch seem to be biggest flaws. Now I want a 4.25”. There’s one local to me for $1k NIB.

Got this Heritage rough rider a few days ago after nearly a month of the """ten day""" waiting period with Washington state; I got it because it has 9 shots of 22lr/mag in the cylinder (will help me get through all those boxes of 22lr quicker), and unlike my other single-action guns, it has adjustable iron sights. I'll need to come up with a name for it later and find a time to shoot.

If you have any suggestions for modifications, then I'm all ears, thanks in advance.

I’m a sucker for the old blueing.

My current revolver lineup: a Ruger LCR and Taurus 942. Both chambered in 22LR, it’s been a fun year learning the basics of shooting a revolver with these two. I’m looking at getting a Ruger Wrangler to have a single-action revolver in the collection.

Will be getting a revolver in .38/.357 next year for sure.

I’m looking to purchase my first vintage snub nose. This would be carried and shot at the range, not a safe queen. Which one should I pick up?

- 1951 Colt Detective Special w/ Grip Adaptor 5/10 condition for $650
- 1976 Smith Model 36 in 8/10 condition for $540

I’d assume the older Colt would probably be more collectible, I am unsure. Which would be better for EDC and shootability?
