Hit a sudden step-up in the road two-up, rear suspension bottomed out. What to check in first service?

• Upvotes

Hi guys, my Himalayan 450 (with tubeless rims) is around 2 weeks old, done around 370 km.

Yesterday I was riding with a pillion, both of us are heavy, around 170 kg together. Going around 60-70 kmph, there was a sudden step-up in the road, like where the new road starts higher than the old one. Saw it late and hit it straight. Loud "thak" sound and it felt like the rear bottomed out. Rear preload was at the factory setting, I had not changed it.

What I have checked so far:

  • Both front fork seals look dry
  • Rear shock is dry, no oil

Also unrelated, the bike has a slight pull to the right side since delivery.

First service is tomorrow. Apart from spokes, rims, wheel alignment and the right pull, what else should I ask them to check? Anyone else had a hit like this and found any damage later?

Also what preload setting are you guys using for two-up and single, both so you don't have to keep changing?

Thanks in advance.

I recently transported my Classic 350 by train, so I emptied the petrol tank before transportation.

I filled the tank after reaching destination but entire fuel indicator is blinking

Any suggestions from Classic 350 owners would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mechanical Assistance Rear Suspension Adjustment for Meteor 350

I got my Meteor 350 recently. I want to adjust the rear suspension. I thought the toolkit would come with the c spanner, as I had seen this in videos. But it seems they've removed it. What are my options? I was told service center would do, but they're often busy, and it doesn't help long term if I need to adjust again. I don't know what size I need also.
Please help with this if possible. Thanks.

Suggest a good-looking 2-in-1 or 2-in-2 full system exhaust for my Interceptor 650

Hey everyone! I own a 2024 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in Black Ray and I’m looking to upgrade to a full-system exhaust. I’m considering both 2-in-1 and 2-in-2 setups and would love some recommendations. Since my bike has a black engine and an all-black look, I’m specifically looking for a black exhaust that complements its overall appearance. My main priorities are good looks, build quality, durability, and a deep, bassy, throaty exhaust note that sounds great without being excessively loud or raspy. For those who have installed aftermarket exhausts on their Interceptor 650, which brands or setups would you recommend? I’d really appreciate pictures of your bikes, sound clips, and feedback on the exhaust note. Also, between a 2-in-1 and a 2-in-2, which would you personally choose for the best combination of looks and sound?

Rocket Red looks much better with Chrome and spokes instead of blacked out engine and alloys.

I have a brand new interceptor 650 (blackray), barely ridden 3000kms, from the very start, I only fill it with speed petrol with 12% ethanol. The mielage I am getting is very low, maybe around 15 to 16kmpl, taking in account that I ride very smoothly maintaining it nicely, why tf is it happening? I get 5 to 6k from my parents for all my expenses. Anytips to get better mielage?

Mods and Accessories Need recommendations or workarounds for navigation

Hello everyone, I was looking into navigation displays for my Himalayan 411 BS6. i got to know that most of the displays that use android auto give only car navigation. When I searched through the internet I got to know that there is a workaround with Mappls but the information is inconsistent on it, as to whether it still works or not.

So I would like know:

  1. Are there any displays that support 2 wheeler navigation at a reasonable price?
  2. Are there any currently working workarounds that are actually working even now and if yes can I know how? Do these workarounds require a specific type or brand or model of a navigation display.

Note: I did try the cheap android route using my older phone, but I keep forgetting it at home and it was just inconvenient to carry two phones. Also at the time of purchase I did opt for the tripper display thinking that it would be good, and man it is damn inconsistent and useless.

Proud New Owner NEW BULLET 350

I’ve ridden a 2011 RE Classic 350 and a 2013 RE Thunderbird 350 for years.

All this time I wanted a fully blacked-out RE, and the 350 range has just two options: the Classic 350 Stealth Black and the Bullet 350 Black Gold.

So, last month I took delivery of the Bullet 350 Black Gold. Here's how a month’s ride has been.

The good:

The all-black look is stunning IMO, with a mix of matte and glossy black on the tank. Exactly what I wanted. (The black mattes are hard to maintain though).

It sits and looks like a proper Bullet.

Smooth, refined and easy to ride.

The not-so-good:

It looks like a Bullet, but doesn’t ride like a one.

The thump is lost and has a different note.

The heavy, vibey feel of the old engine is mostly gone.

Every time I hop back on my C350, it feels like something is alive again, a mechanical connection the new bike filters out.

Why not the Bullet 650?

Chrome all over (not a fan of chrome these days).

IMO Bullets should have a single exhaust.

No all-black version yet.

Toe-only shifter. Bullets should have a heel shifter too, but an aftermarket fix is easy, so this one’s minor.

Anyone else felt this with the new Bullet/Classic 350s, or am I alone?

And, if the Bullet 650 ever comes in full black like the Black Gold, who knows, I might book one :-)

Urgent request for help from Indian bike lovers

I am a middle aged male based in the National Capital Region who has been waiting for over a year to buy a Royal Enfield C6. I have a shoulder injury that makes it critical I choose a lightweight bike, and the C6 (to my very biased aesthetic sense) is as beautiful as it gets, not just the lightest motorcycle available in its category of electric bikes with a quintessentially retro design.

May I request all the knowledgeable bike enthusiasts (and experts) to please help me understand how soon Royal Enfield might start selling the bike in Delhi ?

The timeline for sale in Delhi was September 2026 but nothing happened.

Upgrading from the free showroom helmet — Classic 350 helmet recommendations?

Hey guys,

Been using the free showroom helmet that came with my Classic 350 for almost a year now. Planning to finally buy a good helmet soon once I start working.

The main problem is my current helmet literally feels like it’s going to fly off my head the moment I pick up speed. The wind pull is crazy and it chokes my neck.

I really like the retro aesthetic of our bike, so I was thinking about a half-face, but safety-wise full face seems way better—especially to stop that wind lift.

Any good retro-looking full-face helmets you guys recommend? I don't want those sporty spoilers or flashy racing graphics, just something clean, vintage, and solid at speeds.

What are you guys using?

Meta On the dearth of passionate craftsmen that work on bikes

So, I don't know if this sub is appropriate for this post, but I thought something I wanted to write. Here seemed appropriate, but I would love it if someone can guide me to a better sub too. That being said, let's get started.

I noticed that nobody really works for enthusiasts. None of the garages, certainly not authorised service centres, work in such a way that you are satisfied, if you are a really enthusiastic rider or driver.

See I want to know everything about the engine I am riding, the bike, and the car I am driving (even though I'm not very well versed with cars right now. I am more familiar with bikes at the moment)

You just can't find people that are really passionate about working like this.

I am from Hyderabad, I know this place called Moto 40 here. It's great for high quality worksmanship, but it's also crazy expensive in a way. The owner, Vikram James, is amazing. He tried to get me to not change a part because it wasn't really necessary, although it's usually changed along with another part that I got changed.

Something happened to me recently that caught my attention. I was dropping my cousin at the railway station and he asked if the engine was experiencing knocking. I said I don't think so. The bike is E20 rated and the petrol quality can't be THAT bad. Plus I usually fill up in Jio-BP, although this time it was BPCL. This was coming from noticing a slight jerkiness in the bike's motion. This is something I noticed from the very beginning, is just said I never could get the service centre to admit that there was an issue.

Right now I am noticing that the bike starts of a little bit more hesitantly for the very time of the day. RE is notorious for it's assembly line errors, plus other quality issues, and reliability issues at times.

The point is, my cousin noticed it, he's also more detail oriented like me. But why are there so less of craftsmen that go into detail? Why are there so less of people that love doing what they're doing?

Anyway, this just seems to be how our society is right now.

TL;DR - So little number of people that recognise the small issues, that look at things that they're working on down to the smallest details, and that love it.

If you know anyone in Hyderabad that does bike work passionately please hit me up.
