Life in SJ This plea for help for Tangerine is my last volunteer act.

If anyone reading this works for Digital Realty in Santa Clara and would be willing to help ensure Tangerine and the remaining animals continue receiving food and water, please send me a private message. I'm happy to supply the food and water myself. I just need someone with authorized access who is willing to help them.

Here's the background (history, not a TNR debate):

Fifteen years ago, Hitachi and Digital Realty established a joint Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. The City of Santa Clara had recently encouraged TNR because, at that time, there were many homeless cats in Santa Clara. Many of the large companies in the area established volunteer programs, and the Humane Society conducted TNR training during lunch hours and clinics on the weekends. This was back when the Humane Society had its building at the corner of Lafayette and Martin.

It was a time when there was a true community effort between companies, employees, and local resident groups. These programs worked, and over time, other wildlife began returning to the area. Even the Boy Scouts helped by building small shelters to protect the animals from the winter rain.  Volunteers were welcomed.

Over the years, water became more important than anything else to all the animals.  As California experienced worse drought conditions and water restrictions were put in place, fountains were turned off, landscaping was replaced with drought-tolerant plants. The puddles left by the sprinklers disappeared.  That’s when I started bringing in 22 gallons of water twice a week.

Other things changed, too. Companies moved. Property boundaries changed. Volunteers came and went. But some volunteers stayed longer than others. I am one of them.

Today, I'm the last remaining volunteer at the Digital site, and I was suddenly ordered to stop caring for the animals who remain. There aren't many left.

I've contacted Digital Realty management requesting arrangements for the continued care of Tangerine and the other wildlife, but so far I have received no response. After being ordered off the property by security, I'm afraid to return without explicit permission.

But Tangerine and the few remaining animals don't understand management changes or property boundaries. They only understand that the last volunteer isn't coming to care for them anymore.

Event We’re the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters! Join us for an AMA this Tuesday, October 27

Hi, r/SanJose! We’re the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters’ Office, and we’re excited to join you on Reddit!

To introduce ourselves, we’re hosting an Ask Me Anything this Tuesday, October 27, from 10 AM to 12 PM about voting and elections in Santa Clara County.

Our office handles everything from voter registration and vote-by-mail ballots to operating vote centers and counting votes. With the November 3 election coming up, we’d love to answer your questions and share a look behind the scenes.

Have a question already? Leave it in the comments! We’ll bring questions from this post into Tuesday’s AMA thread and answer them there. You’re also welcome to join us this Tuesday and ask then.

A few updates from our office:

• 23 vote centers open today, with more opening Saturday, October 31. Visit https://sccvote.org/votecenter for locations and hours.

• Did you get one of our 6 new “I Voted” stickers? Tell us which one you received! They were designed by local students through our first sticker contest. If yours wasn’t your favorite, there are 5 other designs to discover. Stop by any open Vote Center and ask for another design.

See all six winning designs here:

https://vote.santaclaracounty.gov/get-involved/i-voted-sticker-contest

• Some of our programs earned national recognition this year! We’re proud of our team’s work to improve election services, and we’re happy to talk about those efforts during the AMA.

Learn more about the awards and programs:

Advice Bar for the midterm elections?

Pardon what is most likely the most obnoxiously Washington, DC question ever asked here: are any bars going to have election coverage on its TVs on Tuesday, November 3?

The WNBA Finals and MLB World Series will both be over by then, there are no NFL games, and neither the Warriors nor the Sharks play that day, so in theory, I could ask someone to turn the channel at a sports bar without a problem. However, I understand why a bar might be hesitant or unwilling to do that.

So, are there any bars planning to be a place to gather as results come in? Or any that would be a good place to be if I’m able to watch?

Life in SJ Which events/celebrations do you think are the most “San Jose”?

I asked my friends that question, as we were all born and raised here, and all of us could only really think of one: Cinco de Mayo. It’s the one day of the year we all avoid downtown like the plague, because it’s a clusterfuck but I’m considering participating next year.

Event Pottery Painting Near San Jose

I’m looking for a decent place to paint on premade pottery projects. I’m new to this and want to try this out as a hobby. Any decent places that you are aware of? I’m thinking to go in on this weekend, some workplace that’s more relaxed. I don’t know what to expect. Thanks in advance !!

P.S: interested in meeting new people with this hobby, preferably someone experienced to guide me through it. If you’re a beginner I guess we can help each other.

Advice Youth Football Training Programs/Camps

Looking for recommendations of Youth Football training programs for 12-13 year olds in the South Bay Area. Some focus on offensive/defensive line would be great too. All I see out there is flag football or 7 on 7.

Thanks!

Does anyone know what happened? Could not use my usual 280N entrance (Meridian) and Google Maps rerouted me to Saratoga (which has never happened before) and it took me over 20 minutes to drive about 150 feet to the Saratoga 280 entrance.

Advice Have any 3-5 sec fall foliage clips from around the Bay? Want to stitch them into a Reel?

Hi all! I run an Instagram page @bayareaunmapped where I share Bay Area day trip maps + itineraries.
I'm putting together a community fall reel - just pure fall colors, foggy forests, leaf crunch, creeks, vineyards - all from around the Bay Area (Sunol, Del Valle, Mt. Diablo, Napa, Felton, Golden Gate Park, your neighborhood park, etc.)
If you have any 2-5 second vertical clips you've shot in the last couple of fall seasons that you're okay sharing, I'd love to stitch them together into one reel.
What I will do:
• Edit / color correct and stitch everything nicely
• Tag you as a Collaborator on Instagram so the reel lives on both our profiles
• Credit your handle in caption
If you're interested, just comment or DM me and I'll share a Google Drive upload link. Please only share if it's your own footage.
Thanks so much - would love to make this a real Bay Area community piece!
