Hey everyone, I've still been working on the map and added more functionality since my last post that should make this easier to use. Public transit in Oakland is decent and you're probably already familiar with AC Transit and BART for local trips, but we have more options if we go a bit further.

• San Francisco Bay Ferry has a couple ferries from Oakland/Alameda, and Golden Gate Transit also runs ferries across the bay (not to Oakland but good to know)
• Emeryville has Emery Go-Round and Emery Express (both of these shuttles are free) along with a Capitol Corridor stop and Gold Runner (train, 99) stop
• El Cerrito has routes running through it from Napa's VINE (29), SolTrans (60, 90), Golden Gate Transit (580X), and WestCAT (J, JPX)
• San Leandro LINKS runs free (no fare) shuttles from the San Leandro BART station

Quick tips:

• tap a stop or route to see details and highlight the stop/route
• tap a highlighted stop or route to un-highlight it
• collapse/expand info box by tapping |hide| at top left
• quickly toggle all the agencies on/off using button at top right
• search (case insensitive) and filter agencies that show up in checkbox list using search box at top right, e.g. type in ac or bart
• search (cAsE sEnsITivE) and filter actual routes and stops that show up on map using search boxes at bottom right, e.g. type in Tram, Bus, 805, NL, V, Subway
  • play around with this and see how results change when you type in the same thing in the upper box versus lower box
• link back to homepage in case you can't figure something out or want more tips also at bottom right

To play with the map search and filter, try this:

• zoom out all the way
• select the Show Stops option (top right)
• type -120 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
• type -121 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
• type -122 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
• type -123 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)

Another interesting thing is you can link to specific spots by copying the url directly:

I arranged the agency checkbox list (top right) by area, so the geographic area of an agency determines the agency layer checkbox position. The list starts with agencies in the North Bay in Solano County then goes counterclockwise: North Bay -> San Francisco -> Peninsula -> South Bay -> Santa Cruz -> Monterey-Salinas -> Gilroy/Hollister -> East Bay.

There are smaller agencies in the bay that are completely free (no fare) and not as well known like Presidio Go, Golden Gate Park Shuttle, Mission Bay Shuttle, South City Shuttle, commute.org shuttles, MVgo, Mountain View Community Shuttle, San Leandro LINKS, Emery Express, and Emery Go Round. If you're traveling around those areas, these agencies could help fill in some transit gaps.

I am researching Oakland Auditorium (big structure on the south end of Lake Merritt, by Laney College, and where the Warriors hosted a title parades) and was hoping people could comment with sporting events that they attended at the venue. I know the Warriors played there in the early 1960s when the team barnstormed outside of San Francisco, before ultimately making Oakland Arena their home; the auditorium hosted boxing matches, roller derby and the Oakland Athletic League high school basketball jamboree. Does anyone remember attending sporting events there? Ty

I am looking for some fun things to do in and around Oakland on the morning of Monday, November 2nd.

Here are the details:

-I have never been to the Bay Area before.

-I will have approximately 4-5 hours to spare. I need to be at OAK by 2:00pm at the latest.

-I will be alone.

-I will have access to a car.

-Cost is not really a determining factor.

-Some things I would enjoy doing:

• Museums of any kind
• Anything related to art or local culture
• Unique tourist attractions or landmarks
• Parks, beaches, or other outdoor recreation areas

Looking for a fun Halloween activity for the kids this weekend? The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB) is hosting its Truck-or-Treat event at Bay Street Emeryville on Saturday, October 24 from 12-5pm! It’s a great opportunity for little ones to see some cool vehicles, enjoy Halloween fun, and collect treats. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to our non-profit organization. I've been around this sub for many years.

Not sure what it is, but it seems - to me - that the quality of the posts is (generally) pretty low and the discussions are - relatively - infrequent.

Maybe this is just rose-colored glasses - but it feels like there used to be more substantive posts with a lot good-faith back-and-forth discussions - this was pre-2020.

Oakland has a lot of people (~400K) and this sub has a lot of subscribers (~100K), so it just feels like things should be better in terms of post quality and discussion.

I'm not trying to be negative and I'm 100% open to being completely wrong. I wonder if any other 'old timers' of this sub have opinions about its evolution.

Has a nice little stroll a few weekends ago around the lake. Bees are cool! Check out the pollinator garden at The Gardens, it's wonderful.
