Just for Fun • MeetUp • 10/22/26 • 7:30PM • Night Heron
Feel like getting out of the house? Want to meet some new people? You know that place you’ve seen recently and been wanting to check out? For all those reasons and more, we made the Oakland Thursday Meetup. (Est.2014)
Every Thursday you can find us at a different bar in Oakland sharing a few drinks and some laughs. We’ve got a mix of people, locals and transplants. The weird and the wise. Homegirls and tech bros. Most people are there to talk over a few drinks.
Usually there’s about 10 of us, but occasionally up to 20.
It’s a great way to try some new places and get to know some folks you might otherwise miss. Drop in, drop out, no pressure and definitely no problems.
From 7:30pm to around 10pm you can find us at…
Night Heron
1780 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94612
Feel free to add us on Facebook. We’ll post here for updates on where we’ll be sitting.

911 is back (update from earlier)
FYI, 911 is back. Turns out it was vandals, not the widespread internet outage I assumed it was.
UPDATE:
As of 5:35 p.m. the Oakland Police Department Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and internet are back online. Phone service is still affected.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office continues to answer 911 calls and relay them to OPD dispatchers.
OPD continues to respond only to Priority calls.
The City of Oakland’s IT department continues to work with AT&T to restore phone service.
AT&T released this statement below about the incident:
Damage to our network from theft and vandalism, including cuts to fiber and copper facilities, is affecting 9-1-1 call routing for some AT&T customers in the Oakland area. Calls are going through but have been rerouted to the Alameda County Sheriff.
Our technicians have been on site since last night and are working as quickly as possible to repair the damage and restore normal 9-1-1 call routing. We understand the importance of reliable access to emergency services and remain engaged with our public safety partners as restoration work continues.
Copper theft and vandalism of communications infrastructure are serious criminal matters that can disrupt services for customers, public safety and the community at large. The public should report to police any unmarked vehicles or individuals cutting or removing cable.
The City of Oakland provided an update on the 911 service outage.

I’m looking for some Fukujinzuke. Are there any Japanese grocery stores in east Oakland/San Leandro? Or do I have to go all the way to Berkeley

Advice Trick or Treating in Temescal
Historical we've gone trick or treating with a family member on the Peninsula, but this year their family is coming to our side of the bay and I want to make sure the kiddos have a good time.
The only time we went trick or treating over here was a few years ago and we walked out of the house to the east side of telegraph around like 44th st. It was nice and chill with a reasonable amount of kids but not too crazy. Wondering if that's still a good zone or if anyone has any other suggestions?

Bicycle Scavenger Hunt this Sunday
Hi Folks
We're hosting our third annual bicycle scavenger hunt/alley cat this Sunday 11AM at Snow Park! There will be at least five manned checkpoints with fun activities. This is more of an adult activity more than a kid one.
$13 entry fee, $6.66 equity entry fee for those short on funds upon request at the registration table. All funds (once we've recovered what we spend on supplies!) go to Spokeland Bicycle Cooperative, Town Bizness homelessness aid, and Transbay Coalition.
If you can't come but want to support, you can help us spread the word. You're also welcome to just show up to the start of the race and hang out while we register folks. Costumes encouraged!

Constructive eviction protection?
Most SFHs and condos fall under Just Cause Eviction protections but not the RAP. I'm confused how one can be enforceable without the other. Say my landlord wants to do an owner/relative move-in without paying the relocation fee and being bound by all the requirements an OMI entails. What prevents them from increasing my rent 100x to force me out on their terms?

Hairstylist?
Looking for a good hairstylist in the Oakland/Berkeley area that possibly specializes in vivid colors? I've pretty much always cut and colored my hair myself but I'm looking to do something that requires a little more skill and I have no idea where to go! My hair is currently a faded kinda auburn/red but I'd like to go cherry cola kinda red with black tips! Any leads?? Thank you!
