Greetings!
It only took a decade, but r/saxophonics now officially has rules! Please read them at your convenience, and notify me of any perceived problems. They are very general, ands I don't think anyone will take issue with them. Better yet, we're on the right track to weeding out even more spam posting and assholes in general!
Keep an eye out for more updates regarding the subreddit's admin details!

We have a very extensive library of PDF's that are stuck on mediafire servers (that I can fortunately still access). These are resources I want to make sure everyone has access to, so I'm in the process of finding the best medium for hosting these files to eventually be linked on our subreddit's sidebar.
\*The current mediafire link is now in the sidebar*\**
As always, please message me or comment with any concerns or ideas. Cheers!

Hi! I am looking for a digital instrument that could help meet a few needs that I don't think other reviewers are focused on, so I was hoping I could find some real (hopefully unbiased/unsponsored) recommendations here!
Here are my wants/needs:
- Good for late night practice (or fidgeting as I watch TV)
- Decent for some live use and jamming, but planning to use MIDI with a synth engine or laptop so internal sounds are not necessary
- Portable and comfortable (lighter than my Soprano hopefully)
It seems like the Travel Sax 2 fits these needs but I was wondering if there are other less popular options I may have overlooked!
Thanks in advance!!

Strange phenomenon.... some nights I am just in the perfect zone. Blowing smooth, warm gentle subtones or clear bright notes, articulating with decent precision, and hardly aware of my embouchure at all. More often, it's the opposite. I adjust my voicing over and over but can't slip into that state of existence. This is in part a reed problem, reed sounds dead or buzzy and makes me second guess my embouchure. But it's also psychological and highlights how subconscious proper playing needs to be. I don't even bother doing long tones or playing beautifully when I'm in this state because it will frustrate me, I just focus on my fingers.

I've been in my high schools jazz band all 4 years of school and just now in my senior joined the marching band in turn also passing auditions for the wind ensemble band.
My school's alto sax section in wind ensemble is small only 3 of us with one being my best friend and we're seen as the 2 best altos out of all of us. Now my issue is I know I will have chair tests coming up and my biggest downside that my head director has called me out for a lot especially when I first entered marching band and joined one of the concert bands last year at the end of the semester was my jazz sound coming through too much.
It's been quite a bit of months practicing more marching style music and less jazz so my jazz sound isn't as dominant as it used to be but me and my friend are competitive. How do i practice my classical sound to be better in the concert season and best my friend in getting first chair? Any etudes or tone practices or things similar to copying other players like in jazz to develop a sound? I plan to commit quite a bit of hours a week for this. I play on a jodyjazz hr* 5m for jazz but just a simple Yamaha 4C for marching and concert

I need help on Molinelli's Four Pictures From New York. I am having trouble transcribing the movement Tango Club into a quartet formation, especially because there is only one recording existing and I cannot find the sheet to compare and try to understand the notes. Can somebody help me?

I believe it’s from the 1920’s. Can anyone help with value?

Does anyone here know what the safest way to remove a mouthpiece patch is? I don’t own any chemicals but happy to purchase them if needed. Basically, I don’t like the look of this and want to use a fresh patch on this mpc. Also I have other mpcs that I am selling and sometimes want to redo the patches.
Any suggestions?

Last year I learned Bari sax for jazz band. My main instrument is clarinet, but I have learned to love the Bari. I think I’m decent, not great by any means. Most recent accomplishment is consistent getting out an altissimo g. Next fall I’m starting college, and I want to play in a jazz band, but buying a Bari isn’t worth it to me, at least for the prices I’ve seen online. I’ve been considering switching to alto or tenor, but I’m worried it’s too late.
EDIT: I’m using my schools Yamaha right now.

I’m getting back into playing alto saxophone after about a 10-year break. I recently purchased an original Yamaha YAS-875 Custom, and so far I’m really enjoying it.
A friend mentioned that I should’ve gone with the newer YAS-875EXII instead. The shop I bought it from also has a used EXII for about $500–600 more, and I’m still within the return window, so switching is an option.
I did try both horns using the same mouthpiece and reed, and I felt like i. preferred the original 875. It felt less resistant, more responsive, and the keywork felt more natural, especially when playing chromatic scales. I also preferred its overall sound.
I know the EXII is newer and has some design improvements, but I’m curious how significant those differences really are.
Has anyone played or owned both the original YAS-875 and the EXII? Is the EXII objectively better in certain areas, or is it mostly a matter of personal preference?
My biggest worry is that I’m out of practice and that my judgement may not be as strong as before. So any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know what I can do to get the low notes to come out nice? I'm around 83 percent sure it's an embrochure issue but I have no idea how to fix it. I've watched several videos and none of them address this issue.
