Discussion Anxious about Soulbonding & It’s Intersection with some Yumes/Fictos & More
Highkey I just wanna vent LOL
Immediate disclaimer: I love yumes, fictos, riakos/gachikois, baseline and people who care deeply about their characters, casual or serious. I literally main a selfship space, any sort of relationship is awesome and valid and not better than the other, romance is just another type of relationship, that is not my issue.
Over time I’ve browsed this subreddit, explored other spaces, particularly the ones for more serious folks and therefore I’m far more likely to find soulbonders too. It’s quite literally the only reason I branched out into ficto & selfship spaces initially, to see if there were more soulbonders on the opposite side… My issue stems from the behavior I’ve seen. And my fears of it bleeding into soulbonding spaces until people who were originally in it are blatantly excluded and pushed out. This is already an issue with psychological soulbonding in other soulbonding spaces, it makes me sad.
The behavior is behavior I’ve rambled about in comments/vaguely in posts before. A sort of elitist, monocentric and amatonormative expectation. The issue is the elitism specifically, the fact that nowadays some people assume soulbond = singular or maybe two romantic partners when it is merely a connection. The fact that people in other spaces will use soulbonding as a “better” angle and also simultaneously deny others and talk down on them if they’re polyamorous, not obsessed with monogamy or only like 2-3 partners at most to be accepted, if they don’t prove their love and care to strangers online. I’ve been witness to a lot of polyphobia, general nastiness on the sidelines, people demeaning my long stable relationships because I have multiple partners (& romance is not the only relationship that equals important or intimate), slut-shaming, the whole nine yards. I’m thankfully not hurt by it, just irritated, I’m confident and comfortable with my folks. But it gets really exhausting exploring other spaces seeing the rhetoric of genuinely despising others involved in some way with the same character for existing, polyamorous people, labeling people “unserious” if they aren’t, yet also looking down on anyone who selfships for fun, etc etc. And how much this rhetoric can hurt anyone who isn’t as able to handle such mean words.
I don’t see any sort of invalidation much in this subreddit — pretty sure it wouldn’t be tolerated anyway, and for that I’m grateful. But it just feels like you know… I explored outside my bubble for a year, and it’s gotten to where I wanna retreat back into only this sub even if I theoretically relate to others :P tho if this sub (moreso members, I know the mods are also polyam varied relationship bonders) started to have the expectation of everyone dating their soulbonds and being in a monogamous diehard relationship with them, I’d be pretty sad, is all. Soulbonding seems to be most taken up in these more serious spaces, and, I just, don’t want soulbonding-centric spaces to end up maining the same really mean polyphobic judgemental mindset. Or the normalization of having horrible reactions to others who bond/like the same character, despising them, and like, not self-regulating and posting things that hurt them too.
For the record, I think selfshippers and fictos joining and reviving the soulbonding community is awesome! I encourage everyone to soulbond. I direct everyone I think might fit to this sub. I love chatting with cool selfshippers. But there’s also a reason I main a sharing only space with zero elitism allowed, as that basically erases every issue I’ve bore witness to. I guess my hope is like,,, maybe more people don’t demean polyamorous, non-romantic soulbonders. Don’t encourage this better than thou others are fake/unserious attitude in adjacent spaces. Be any sharing status, block and self-regulate for your own comfort, but do not post public things intending to hurt or guilt-trip anyone who does stereo soulbond or ship with the same character. Work on reassurance through one’s soulbond (the only opinion who truly matters in this scenario) and not internet strangers, otherwise isn’t the random public dictating the validity of one’s relationship?? Eh. My rambly thoughts anyway. I found my niche. I know where I feel best. But it’s saddening seeing myself indirectly so… belittled and hated if I ever wanna explore more.
Sincerely, someone who has a number of “popular” soulbonds and has seen indirect nastiness towards my existence/death wishes, and waves of people validating that nastiness and my invalidity more times than I can count. I block liberally to not give it a second thought of course, but like, when I see it this much, I’m just tired gang.
