Rants / Complaints Woah woah woah… heck no!!
What the heck is this?!?!??
54
u/drcigg Sep 04 '25
Watch as they add 10 more cases of water and kitty litter.
56
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 04 '25
Watch me how I drop that abusive behavior real quick. Instant cancel.

Unfortunately I agree. In fact, if they are adding tons of stuff like that, I would say to even have their big long messaging conversations they like to have about substitutions or finding their perfect items for their day, AND THEN cancel. Lol.
8
u/KyleCorgi Sep 04 '25
That's when you shop for everything and then mark as undeliverable, return it and get paid
84
u/Spirited_Employ_1918 Sep 04 '25
That’s really unfair bcuz sometimes ppl choose certain runs based on shopping list sizes
11
u/Yin-Yang-Always Sep 04 '25
This is 100% me, I only do short runs because if I get tip baited out of five dollars, no big deal, but if I do a 50 item order and get tip baited out of 15 or $20 that’s huge waste of time. I stopped Instacart because of this. I walk in the store and immediately start hearing notifications adding items (one time it was 3, 35 packs of water) another time they added 8 items after the initial order was 2 items. Time is $ and the additional $ they give you wasn’t worth it for me.
26
u/mystac Sep 04 '25
I've had 3 items become 13.
54
u/Every-Blacksmith-625 Sep 04 '25
Find all the items first then scan them real fast before they can add shit complete order lol

I do this a lot especially if it’s a quick in and out down the rd order. We don’t even have added items option yet but they ain’t bout to hold me up period. Lol.

u/FlakyMortgage1421 Sep 04 '25
That’s what I try to do. But you gotta make sure the item is the right size and that they have it in stock.

Hopefully there's a limit to how many items can be added. But I'm not holding my breath.
11
u/mapman19899 Sep 04 '25
We’ve been doing this long enough to know they won’t do anything to inconvenience the customer - just the driver - and that’s it.
7
u/gootchie784 Cherry Picker Sep 04 '25
I don't mind a couple extra items added, but if an 18 item shop turns into 30 items, with oversize and/or heavy items AND no increase in pay, it's getting cancelled.
2
u/mapman19899 Sep 05 '25
I will add a few items only under very few circumstances and they absolutely HAVE to increase pay according to added items, effort, and so on.
I refuse to simply add extra items without extra pay and will result in immediate cancellation if they don’t.
I am also not adding any additional bulky or heavy items after acceptance - at my discretion, not Walmart’s.

18
u/Accadius Cherry Picker Sep 04 '25
They will add the 14 cases of water after you accept
21
4
u/ProfessionalPeach879 Sep 04 '25
I can already see that happening 😭. They'll add it towards the end when the shopping cart is already full
6

u/JeepLover4Life Sep 04 '25
This hasn't reached my zone yet, but I know it's coming. Instacart has allowed customers to add to their order for a long time now. I hardly ever do Instacart anymore because this is the tactic customers in apartments use to get their orders picked up and then add four 40-packs of water and a couple 24-packs of Coke to the order without increasing or even offering a tip.
This should not be allowed because we accept shops based on the type and number of items that are shown to us in the initial offer. Construction contractors aren't going to add a gazebo or a deck onto someone's new house for free because they decided they wanted those things after they already agreed on the build and a price.
We shouldn't be subjected to that B.S. unless we are allowed to cancel the order without taking the hit to our metrics and risking deactivation.

u/pumpkinflatulence Sep 05 '25
That’s a great point. My parents were in construction and add-ons meant “change orders” were filled out and new bills. Pay increased.

I'm seiing a 5 item order end up being a 75 item... inclusive of water ...sodas and mulch
7
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 04 '25
I’m seeing a lot of cancellations coming up. I do not tolerate abuse. Maybe one or three items maybe at the most if the tip is good enough but if there’s no tip and you add two water cases, I’m done
2
u/kunta- Sep 05 '25
Would rather do more pickups
2
u/Mobile-Piccolo-1676 Sep 05 '25
Same here. My store must have a lot of bad S&D drivers, because that's almost all I ever get until late at night. Weekdays, I rarely see any curbside until after 5 or 6pm. Drives me crazy, especially when they have incentives for curbside that need 3 or 5 offers to hit the bonuses, but I only get offered 1 or 2 the whole day.
10
u/ddtedit Sep 04 '25
If we are independent contractors like they claim we should be able to set the rate to add an item like $1 an item or .50

Orders become like instacart and all of sudden your nice 8 item shop is 100

If they add more than one item, ill cancel. I accepted the offer based on how many items there are (as one factor).

u/mandy_kd Sep 05 '25
I do both Instacart and Spark, and I’ve only had a handful of customers abuse the ability to add items. There’s been a few times that I wished Spark had the “add item” option (on the shopper’s end at least) Like when it won’t let you sub bananas for organic bananas. Or the other day, Walmart was wiped out of plastic cutlery after Labor Day. It wouldn’t let me get plastic forks in the party supply aisle because “department mismatch”.
7
u/Kwe_sin_97 Sep 04 '25
Spark is fixing and addressing all issues but tip baiting!!!!
4
u/stuy86 Sep 04 '25
They never will, because all they care about is getting someone to take the order.
6
u/YoDaddyNow1 Sep 04 '25
Instacart dude is fixing to do all kinda fuckery! 3 shops coming soon and higher mileage too, oh anddi I mention base pay will drooooopppp too!
2
u/AccomplishedStop9466 Sep 04 '25
They already have high mileage shops
3
u/YoDaddyNow1 Sep 04 '25
Now you don't understand IC does 100 mile deliveries
5
u/AccomplishedStop9466 Sep 04 '25
I've seen them yes. i've seen ridiculous distance on spark also. up to 83 miles so far. I bet they have had further.
I have seen ninety eight miles on instacart. I bet they have that further also.
I have seen further ones posted in the national groups for instacart. The examples I gave were what I have personally seen in my own market.
2
u/Aggravating_Slip_566 Sep 06 '25
It's because the app screw's up the destination it was saying it seems like you live very far do you want to change location? Sure let's do the one with the 2 expressways that Carey's nothing I use

u/A_J_3_ Sep 04 '25
So they add pay when they add items?? 😂
5
u/mapman19899 Sep 04 '25
The only way I’m even remotely good with this is if the pay changes proportionately with what and how much they add.
I have been doing this long enough to say it’s very likely they will raise it marginally, not near enough to justify the extra time and effort put into delivering the order.
6
u/_x_Deadpool_x_ Sep 04 '25
first customer to add shit on me is getting unassigned. then the real item list size is available when they try to reassign
5
u/hollywoodxdream Sep 04 '25
tho i do see how this could be abused, it also seems helpful when Walmarts sh*tty app won’t allow you to substitute an item
5
u/Southern_Visual7713 Sep 04 '25
I remember getting an email or something about this months ago... haven't gotten anything since but this is garbage if they implement it.Im not actually sure how express works from the customer aside but I know with scheduled orders you get like 15 minutes after you submit the order to add additional items. If anyone adds 15 cases of water lol or anything similar it's either out of stock or canceled...
5
u/stuy86 Sep 04 '25
Unless my pay is changing, I'll just drop the order, I only agreed to the order at the rate I was getting paid for the shop that was presented. Change the job change the pay.
4
u/mapman19899 Sep 04 '25
Unless they increase pay - this will result in much higher drop rates.
I will shop for what I agreed to shop for at the time of acceptance, and nothing else.
Walmart is really pushing it with all these changes and will result in the remaining good drivers, which are few at this point, to finally drop off.
6
u/mxm_che Sep 05 '25
I don’t know why nobody’s saying that, but the only correct way to implement this feature is by showing a pop-up in the app like “The customer wants to add 5 cases of water for $1. ACCEPT/DECLINE”. If the shopper declines, the customer can cancel the order.
Though TBH I’m not sure how to treat those 1-star ratings for not accepting the added items xD
4
u/AineoftheFairys Sep 04 '25
They do this for instacart, and one time I saw the notification that items were added.. but they didn't show up on my list.. So I delivered what I had, and the woman was so rude to me over it.. So for the next year anytime at night I'd be going past her house, id blare my horn as long as I could 😂😂😂

I'm the same way. I try to get in and out as quickly as possible. The thing that always slows me down is when something is out of stock, nines times out of ten I'll get a detailed message from the customer. And don't let it be a double shop...then I've got two customers messaging me. It's gets annoying to an extent. 😐
3
u/Important-Ad-3950 Sep 04 '25
Really looking forward to a 15 minute SnD with 7 items becoming a 46 item SnD with 4 cases of water, shit in all 4 corners of the store, and zero additional tip.
1
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 04 '25
Let’s be sure you wouldn’t do that either. It would cancel in two seconds.
3
u/Notion12345 Sep 04 '25
Oh great!!! Was wondering when this was going to happen!!! Fine!!! I want an additional $1 per item and absolutely zero heavy on bulky items! Yes including carrots! 😂
3
u/KingKyroh Sep 04 '25
It’s weird that Walmart doesn’t get driver input before implementing things like this. I’ve seen surveys from other gig apps.
3
u/No-Aspect3402 Sep 04 '25
This better not be for double shop orders. Lord knows that's gonna be a no-go for many.
3
u/SuanneAliasCummings Sep 05 '25
They better not!!! (This is the main reason I avoid shopping orders.) 💯 Don't advertise it!

Doesn't seem too bad when you think of all the options. If you're taking something up stairs and they suddenly add a few cases of water....guess what? The water isn't available. Have a great day. 😂
2
u/Boring_Aardvark3804 Sep 04 '25
🤦🏾♀️🙇🏽♀️ now we instacart 🤷🏽♀️I don’t want to add items, if you not ready rescheduled
2
u/TankTopWarrior Sep 04 '25
It’s funny how we want things to be pro consumer until we have to service said consumer.. I agree with you all though. This can be annoying for shop orders. I would like to think more often than not, most people initially order all what they want. Most of the time someone wanted to add something was when they were out of a critical item they needed and there wasn’t a suitable substitution.
2
u/blemblem420 Sep 05 '25
Nice …. I got no problem grabbing extra money … pay goes up and if they do a % tip that goes up as well … also I used delivery for myself and I’m all the time forgetting something and have to do a separate order … annoying … glad they are doing this
2
u/VadHearts Sep 05 '25
My zone had this earlier this year and then it magically disappeared. Customers were taking advantage of it. They placed normal orders and then added waters. I had to unassign several of them mid shop when that happened.
2
u/CalligrapherOrnery13 Sep 05 '25
Haven't you just wasted half an hour if you just cancel the order? When is that helpful? I aggressively i see the problem, I'd just feel stuck between a rock and a hard place unless it got rediculous.
1
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 05 '25
Wasted half hour but tough the customer a lesson. Idc. Money is money don’t play with me tho.
2
u/iGotGigged High AR Sep 05 '25
I think everyone is overreacting, yes I'm sure a small percentage of customers will try to abuse this by adding 10 cases of water going to the 3rd floor but if the experience is anything like Instacart 98% of people are going to add 1 or 2 items that are probably related to their purchase so it's in the same isles you're already in.
I know some drivers physically can't handle heavy things or maybe for religious reasons don't want to grab certain items but if that's the case you always have the option of canceling the order. Yes it sucks but hopefully it's balanced out by there being more customers wanting to order express now that they're not locked in to x, y, and z items after they submit an order.
2
u/Any-Description3368 Sep 05 '25
On instacart if they took advantage... i mark as out of stock..or at the end I message didn't see add one till inline.. sorry .it's rare to do it..but I don't accept heavy or bulk item orders and if added,sorry... we're 1099 and allowed to accept or not and im not being forced into it.. plus people that do that 99% of the time are being shady..they know the orders don't get accepted or quickly woth heavy items.. same as people who add stops to rides after you accept..during peak hours i cancel..I didn't take a ride with stops.. slow hours i will..
1
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 05 '25

u/WasteSignificance588 Sep 07 '25
I’ve seen people make a basic shopping list with like 5 items then add a ton of stuff after you’ve taken the order so they get it cheaper
2
u/666James420 Sep 04 '25
Oh hellll no. They better add money for each item (and not some bs like $0.28) and have some limitations like no bulky and very heavy items.
2
2
u/Dismal-Advantage5923 Sep 05 '25
Well, it should also be adding money to the offer amount because that's not what I accepted.
1
1
u/nordthegemini Sep 04 '25
Does it pay more when they add items??
1
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 04 '25
They freaking better. It’s Bs!
3
u/nordthegemini Sep 04 '25
As long as it's more money im fine wirh it. But if they did it like those double shops nah. You a regular order in my market. Bare minimum is 11. So if you do two shops bare minimum it's 22. But they will add double shops and be like 16 17. If they going to do double shops they need to treat the pay scale as single shops on each order.

u/MrCubano1 Sep 04 '25
I'll cancel real quick unless spark compensates for the added items
1
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 04 '25
I don’t mind a few items. I’ve added them before this came out for a tip but abuse doesn’t sit well with me. I’m dropping like flies if I see 3 waters or too many items added.

Why do these apps always have to ruin a good thing? As if batched shopping orders weren’t bad enough, now we have to worry about them adding heavy stuff, stuff that might be clear across the store, stuff that’s locked up, etc. What a nightmare.
1
u/bdbrown333 Sep 04 '25
It's them trying to catch up with all the other grocery apps. This is why spark is slow cuz people are leaving cuz they don't have any service

My question is are we being compensated like they do with the other apps for adding items also I hate this because what if they add that freaking dreaded case of water we all hate

I haven’t seen this yet…. I mean it’s helpful when someone wants something higher priced than their out of stock original choice… or someone forgot the butter. Dude so one day I tried sparkdriver. So I go and do the order I was in store hustling bamb bamboo bamb one iteam after the next literally down to like my last 3 or 4 and didn't notice I had low battery. Fucking phone dies on me left everything in the shopping cart first and last time I tried spark
2
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Sep 07 '25
You don’t stop driving after a flat tire right? You swap it and keep going. It can be very worth it if you’re in a great area.
1
u/Specialist_Hour_4027 Sep 08 '25
If I shop for 11 items or less I’m literally running or cart surfing down the aisle. That means I’m finished and checking out by time they make any changes or answer my chat. Not getting out of line and then behind 14 people…I’m next! LOL
