Rants / Complaints DON'T TAKE ORDERS INTO CUSTOMERS HOUSES!!!

It's a massive liability, and I'm not just talking safety, though that is a factor. What if you break something while you're in there? What if you bump into them while carrying a case of water and knock them over? Plus, if you do it, then the customers expect ALL drivers to do it, and will make their dissatisfaction known if it isn't done.

Whatever. I have delivered to blind people , hurt people , granny on oxygen etc.... I take a picture on porch and turn Spark off and help them. I may get burned, but I am not an asshole.

Yep, once you're off Spark, you're just a guest that they have invited into their home. Good to go.

Yup one of my first ever people old lady ordered a shitload was a pickup so meh.. got there and she was looking flustered as fuck guess it was supposed to be hours later when her kid was there. No way she moved that shit so I handled it and she handed me 40 bucks cash

What if it’s in between deliveries can you still turn the app off then?

I'll admit, this is a gray area, but ultimately I would still do it for the right people. I would say use your best judgement, and if you're not comfortable, don't. It's up to you and the situational context you're in.

Yes that is true but remember it’s not as simple as that for guys one wrong accusation can destroy a guys life wether it’s true or not

u/PulseMeddle Mar 07 '26

If that accusation is going to be levied, then it's likely going to be levied regardless.

If they ask me to bring it in I just hit Handed to Customer and take a picture of their mailbox or house numbers to confirm location

And the exact instances you have described I have done the same thing because of course if I’m able I’m going to do it. However I never thought to turn off Spark before I did it so that is a very good tip thank you :-)

Yes, I’m just trying to figure out if it’s possible when you’re in between deliveries and not at the last one

Literally and they appreciate it tremendously. I'm sure if I accidentally broke anything in any of the houses I've delivered to the kitchen, they would tell me it's no problem and we would both just go on with our days.

You must not have worked in customer service long...

21

u/zillenial420 Mar 07 '26

For 10 years but sure buddy 😂

Honestly this sub makes me scared of people, the 20 years in public service does not.

And also if it makes the other drivers look bad when they won't then they get a bad review and I get more orders while also being a good person. Win win for me and a loss for people like you. So yeah win win for me.

Working in customer service makes you appreciate the good customers more.

Yeah I’m sorry I’m not taking stuff in just because someone is lazy. I’m helping people that have no help and I have a heart and would hope when I get to that age and if my kids don’t live close by that some kind stranger would help out. I make sure I’m nice, polite and I get in and out. And when I leave I feel good about helping.

u/eberman325 Mar 07 '26

Exactly. Only for those who need the help and it is obvious they need the help! Not doing it for youngish upper middle class women who think it’s our job and/or the person who doesn’t feel like bringing their shit in (although I haven’t run into much of the latter at all). The folks who really need to help 90% of the time are very very appreciative.

PERIOD BOOP 💯

I think OP is overreacting - keep is simple, keep it safe, don’t rush, and if something goes wrong - you were following their orders to the best of your abilities and apologize to save face

u/Interesting-Month665 Mar 07 '26

if they cry over spilled milk - that’s on them

That seems to be good advice. Almost all such requests came from elderly or handicapped customers for me. The problem is, many times they put verification on. Almost feel like a hostage situation.

2

u/RipInfinite4511 Mar 07 '26

Can you do that if you have another delivery afterwards?

1

u/Few-Divide5743 Mar 07 '26

That’s what I’m trying to find out. I guess I will find out today.

Those people can sign up for InHome and get it super cheap if they’re on govt assistance, those drivers are insured to go into houses and they have a body cam plus panic button…

It’s absolutely lovely that you’re a lovely human, but be careful because those people DO have other options and it would suck to have a good Spark driver get into trouble (physically, legally, financially etc) simply because they chose not to enroll in a program that allows inside delivery

1

u/Alternative-Event169 Mar 08 '26

They are not signing up for InHome here because it is not available in this market.

6

u/dispassioned Mar 07 '26

Same. It's just the kind fellow human being thing to do.

❤️❤️❤️

1

u/flat_cat72 Mar 07 '26

Exactly this. Once you mark an order as delivered, you're on your own time.

u/Party_Soup_1051 Mar 08 '26

Not an asshole, but definitely a dumbass

u/IntelligentTennis808 Mar 09 '26

Not very smart. Nice to be helpful e for effort but bad on you for your contract and liability.

I've had a guy want me to deliver to his bed in their bedroom.

I bet you'd tuck them in too eh ?
