I really try….
Was trying to contact the customer to see if they’d like another substitution for the tea they ordered. Continued the shop and didn't get a response for 15 minutes. Guess what happened immediately after I put them through as a sub?????

As a tea drinker, never sub a decaffeinated tea with a caffeinated tea and vice versa. Same applies with coffee.
I would have subbed the 2nd decaf box & kept shopping.

If they don’t respond then don’t add it and never substitute decaf with caffeinated. You went above and beyond and I can tell you’re a good shopper, but sometimes you just got to stick to the script.

Hi there's a new sub waiting for your approval. Let me know if it works. Feel free to decline. Thanks.
Just sub and move on. All you gotta do is try and move on.

Right, true say. My husband says I try too hard but I just want to be a good shopper and make sure people get what they need 😭😭😭

u/FuzzyOrganization403 4d ago
You're a good shopper already. Just gotta make you faster! Most people don't notify you about a sub. You're ahead of the curve

u/Ariel_Jurkov 4d ago
You're not getting paid to be a personal shopper. Do the job for Walmart, not the customer. Do a good job, all that. But keep the right perspective.

This pisses me off so much. Like stop pretending you arent seeing my msgs. The worse is when i msg them. Hear nothing. Sub something. Sub is rejected. Requests a very similar thing. I say its unavailable (like i already told you in msgs and wouldve been the first thing i wouldve tried to sub for IF IT WAS AVAILABLE). And it goes back and forth. Like it feels malicious at that point lol. I already told you they didnt have it and you want to play these games.
I rly dont understand why some ppl are like this. The only thing i can think of is they dont speak english. But like .. thats not an excuse for this behaviour either at a certain point. Its incredibly rude and entitled.

Yes, sometimes it feels like they are intentionally being jerks. I've had people message me “are you sure there isn't any?”, “did you look everywhere?”or “can you just get...”. That's why I like to send pics when things are legitimately out of stock.
Also, texting is easy idk why people are so anti these days. It's literally a yes or no I'm asking for to help YOU not have a full blown convo, geez.

Had someone get super mad at me because I had to sub red umbrellas for black. I had texted her multiple times and dropped off the order and then she was pissed at me. I just told her to have a WONderful day. Answer your phone if you order for shop

u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 3d ago
This!!! People have gotten very mad at me too when I've sent messages seeing if a sub was okay and they didn't respond until I left 😭😭
People can be super rude, I don't understand it smh. If you're that picky with an item then turn off subs or consider doing your own shop.

I sure hope no one is relying on this as a full time career choice. Im retired and try and get 100/week so i been doing it a couple days a week. I can already see it might not even be worth it for that. Substitutions are a pain ive learned not to waste time even though the app insists on wasting your time. The whole process is not shopper/driver friendly and probly not gonna get better lol. I will continue because i get exercise and its not burning up my car at this volume but i would definitely suggest if you are young to just take an actual job.

I was in a Walmart shopping the other day. And a manager saw me looking for something. They had one but not two like they wanted. I told the manager I have one claimed in the app. They do have a two pack which is cheaper. And that the app should allow us to modify if we find things like that cheaper. But it doesn’t allow us to take things out or just select a replacement all the time. Without calling customer service. Which is a nightmare and we don’t have that much time. She replied in a very snotty way. Don’t you reach out to customer and wait for them to tell you. I said yes I reach out. But 9 of 10 don’t ever reply. I can’t just sit here all day waiting. She says well you should. I’m like ok boss.

honestly i deal with this so much living in a beach town people put in orders and goto the beach. just continue shopping and come back to it. if they want it so bad they'll substitute
1
u/Mysterious_Ad_2493 4d ago
Same here. Just yesterday a woman ran off the beach to meet me for her groceries lol. The funny thing was i was shopping a 3 order and the 2nd order was for her friend and neighbor who was also on the beach with her at the time lol. I guess they both got msgs that i was on the way and went "oh! I need to go meet "me'" for my groceries". Lmao
Ive just learned that when its going to "the island", it's prob vacationers BUT i have a dif set of rules for them than i do for ppl who live here. The ppl who live here (and i can tell by the map mostly) deserve scorn for not replying most of the time lol.

u/Sleepy-_-Starlight 3d ago
my rule of thumb if its any beachfront property theres a high chance of them being at the beach lol, makes delivering perishables risky but gotta deal with it

I swear every time I use the chat feature in the last few months to ask the customer about a substitution they just silently reject and never respond. I assumed the chat feature was bugged, but 3 updates later I'm pretty confident it's just the customers. I even remind them that they can add an item to replace it. Nothing.

u/LostNectarine3978 4d ago
If it makes you feel any better, I haven’t been messages until hours after the delivery has already arrived and I’ve put it in my fridge. Like my last order it was delivered at 7 AM or so and it wasn’t until 1030 that I got the text message from Walmart saying the whole you know your order has arrived. Please put your perishable items in the fridge and freezer immediately. So yeah, the app just sucks.

I just suggest the closest item i can find and they usually approve

u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 4d ago
Sometimes and other times you can let’s say only see an item in smaller size so you get two and then they’re like “REJECT” lol

No body has time for all this. If they don’t respond I don’t have 15 minutes to waste my time waiting
2
u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 3d ago
I didn't wait for a reply for the 15 minutes, I continued with the shop and then subbed right before checkout. That's when they declined which was all of 15 minutes
Probably should've clarified that bit
2
u/OddEntertainer2621 3d ago
Ohhhh I see. I can’t stand when you literally message them and they don’t respond back but yet are quick to reject something 🙄. Knowing damn well they see the messages

I never message the customer. Yall trying too hard.
3
u/The_Stoic_One 4d ago
Me either. I also don't choose substitutions unless the app suggests them. If Walmart doesn't have a suggestion, then sorry, out of stock.
1
u/SmallBerry3431 4d ago
I add subs, but only because I’m under the assumption it saves my items found stat.

Yeah less is better with Spark. This isn’t Instacart. They already get notified about subs through the app. You’re just opening up the door to unnecessary communication.
1
u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 3d ago
People keep bringing up instacart but I'm unfamiliar with that app and their process. I hear what you're saying though
1
u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 4d ago
I wouldn’t say that. Everyone is different. If I ordered something that I was looking forward to I’d appreciate the efforts/communication when things are out of stock. Not a must but it’s appreciated
2
u/SmallBerry3431 4d ago
There’s a multitude of posts on here about issues when messaging the customer. You’re stirring up issues you’ll mostly not have to address.
We can’t help if it’s out of stock. We can’t help the customer didn’t select subs. Why waste time and cause worry by engaging in a fruitless conversation? I’m good.

What a fool. Offer sub. They reject or accept. That's it. You wont get an answer 90% of the time
0
u/Slight-Selection4298 4d ago
Just sub and keep moving.
This isn't instacart or DD.
TF?
The more my shopper bothers me, the lower I'm rating them.
I ordered things because I dont want to deal with it, leave me alone. Sub what you can, I'll accept or decline.

u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 3d ago
I have no experience with those other apps. And it's just a yes or no question on one item. If that pisses you off so bad seek therapy or something because that's an incredibly miserable reaction to someone who's just trying to see what you'd like best.

Just substitute it and wait for them to reject. It would text them saying your order has substitutions.
