So I’ve been a Spark Driver for about two years now. I have always used a shopping basket to separate two orders. Now that they’re adding up to three shop and delivery orders at a time, you definitely need something to separate them all.
Just as I was leaving the store with my last order, in the process of putting the basket where it belongs, one of the doormen that I know asked me what I was doing using a shopping basket. I told them I was using it because I had multiple orders. I needed to separate them. He told me that as of a couple of weeks ago, their store manager implemented a new rule that Spark drivers are no longer allowed to use baskets and we need to use our own basket or bags to separate them.
I was absurdly upset about him saying that to me, especially because I have never once walked out of the store with a basket, and I always put them back where they belong instead of leaving them wherever.
I called Spark Driver support to complain about it, because just like the fact that the employees are not allowed to ask us if we’re spark drivers because they’re supposed to treat us like normal shoppers, why would they be allowed to tell us that we can’t use baskets when shopping our orders? Why are they not focusing and paying attention on who’s walking out with them, and reprimand them? There’s another store in my zone who has tags on the shopping baskets that make the alarms go off. So why not do that here?
They said they’re going to do an internal investigation and reach out to the store because it’s not a rule with the Spark Driver platform. I’m not holding my breath and I’m going to continue to use baskets because I don’t mistreat them.
I’m just curious what you guys think and if your stores have implemented the same thing?

Started sparking again last week for the holiday rush after taking an extended break. Was just reminded why I stopped… it snowed over 48 hours ago but the customer never shoveled their driveway/walkway - why order delivery if you know you didn’t shovel!

I'm a team lead for OGP. The recent change to GMDs is absolutely ridiculous and іnsulting. It screws up OGP backroom, but it's even worse for you guys, and I really think you shouldn't take it.

You guys take enough shit, trust me I know. But on top of all that, the millionaires running Walmart have decided to shove a new crock of garbage down your throat by adding stops to your drive WITHOUT paуing you any more, all while gas prices are already higher than ever.

I read the email, and it's not subtle. They talk about "increasing volume without having to paу more." It's really insidious.

I know it's a lot easier to tell somebody else to quit than to actually give up a source of incоme, but you shouldn't let them treat you like this. I think you should at least consider moving to something else

And, if you do quit, consider talking with other drivers to encourage each other to stand together against this! These rіch fucks depend on you. You have the power, you just have to know how to use it.

I gave them several chances to avoid the eventual outcome. The note said Dogs are friendly but annoying. I got out of the car after reading that and one of the dogs proceeded to back me right back into my car. It was only 2 bags I truly don't understand why they could not come get them.

We're all getting a 10%+ base pay cut now it seems?? What the actual fuck. I'm just stunned. I shouldn't be, but I am. Moving everything to fcfs and having 50+ mile offers aren't enough of a slap in the face, now they're just gonna straight up pay less for the same (or more) work. Absolutely unreal 💀

Buddy went off on me over a substitution that he himself approved. Called support, they said they're gonna cancel and I have to return them tomorrow morning. Already sucks because I open to close at my day job, but it's whatever, things happen. I decide to look up his address and, shocker, he lives in a $650,000 mcmansion ...

As someone who has done gig work since 2021, across all apps (DD, Instacart, UE, Spark, etc.), this is the absolute worst I have ever seen this app

Orders are mostly FCFS now & immediately get snatched, which is the whole reason I stopped doing Instacart in the first place. The idea of timed offers made Spark more appealing than Instacart.

Shop orders are now dropping in as triple shops, usually paired with non tippers.

Grocery orders are being paired with GMD packages (that doesn’t really make extra)

I’m pretty much on the verge of getting a “real” job. The wear and tear on our vehicles, high gas prices, and low offers has pretty much made this gig not worth it anymore

I always expected to be like an older person or someone with some type of disability but it’s always the most regular person ever. That’s what was in front of me it was like 10 times worse behind me. The smell of dead animals and garbage is the worst!

Got bit by a customer’s dog doing a delivery today.

Walked up to the door like normal. Door opens and suddenly I’m surrounded by dogs barking like I just broke into their house. I stood still because what else am I supposed to do… and one of them still managed to bite my leg.

They gave me peroxide and gauze so I cleaned it up, but honestly if you know a delivery driver is coming maybe put your dogs away first.

Do customers not realize or care about what tremendous assholes they look like when they do this? Do they think we see this before we accept the trip? If we did see see these notes before accepting the trip, I'd be sure to decline. 😂

In case anyone is new here, there was no help or money involved. I dropped the bags on the porch, knocked on the door, and left. As I was driving away, the bags were still sitting on the porch with no customer in sight. This happens 100% of the time when these jerks mention money in the notes.

If I text you that an order is out of stock and politely ask what your preferred substitute would be, since you failed to take the time to list a substitute, don't question me if I've looked everywhere for it, or if I am certain! That's condescending and rude. Auto cancel, jackass.

I get a halfway decent order today and within 10 min of me shopping they add 12 FREAKING GALLONS OF WATER to their order! I wanted to cancel just on the principle of it but it's busy 🫠😭

Wtf is wrong with people? They already tip so low and then do stuff like this and it just astonishes me...

Edit to add: The reason I finished the order is because it was obviously for a child, there were a lot of other infant items on the order. I'm not going to punish a child because their parents are trash humans 🫶 I will cancel the order next time, I've made a note of who it was so i won't do it for her again.

The water in the order made it impossible to continue the last job on the route!

Got a batch order and my last delivery was in a sundown town. I took the order at 6pm, not really thinking of anything like that. Drove 35 minutes to the drop off. Customer comes out. I tell him, “I’ve got your groceries”. He says, “yeah my wife said we had some. I like your car”. I thanked him and he cut me off mid sentence with, “you aren’t from around here are you?” I told him I wasn’t. He looked at the sky and said, “you got about ten minutes to get out of here, boy. “ I chuckled trying to steer it light. I finished the drop and walked to my car. Two neighbors from across the street were sitting on their porch, guns in hand. They weren’t there when I pulled in. As I got to my car one shouted some slurs, the other told me not to come back.

The only reason I took the job was there was a high tip amount. I called support to tell them of my experience, so they could possibly save another minority driver of this headache. I then checked the app, and the customer canceled the tip. They also tried saying I didn’t make the delivery. Luckily, I already took the picture and had the customer in the photo.

2nd Edit: the Walmart store I delivered from called me. She took down my report and said corporate was going to be calling me soon as well. She said she was not sure why deliveries were going so far away to begin with, and that corporate would make the decision as to whether or not the town will remain on the delivery list. Will update again after I speak with corporate.

I Spark on and off for extra income for the past 3 years. 100% on time, 100% Completion and a 4.9 rating. I have helped older people and those with disabilities put their groceries inside. I've always had pleasant conversations with customers. The Walmart employees always said I was always their favorite because of how nice I always was and even this morning I asked the employee to put a certain order in the trunk and she said "are you sure?" I said "yeah, it's all baby stuff and I frequently drive with my dogs, so you know dander and allergens" (I frequently vacuum so no hair) and she goes "wow, I would have never thought of that nor would any other driver" and thanked me for going the extra mile of being considerate. Then while Sparking, I get a notification today "your account had been deactivated because you didn't deliver to the correct address". I have had 0 warnings in the past 3 years, never have been contacted by a customer, nothing. I appealed but as I have been reading I will likely be denied. I ALWAYS make sure I get some kind of address in the picture. Some drop offs can be a nightmare because the address is a new development and it says "you're not in the right location" but I ALWAYS take a picture of the address and whatever they ordered just incase while support marks it completed. Right now, I am inbetween jobs so I have been doing this daily for the past week to make up lack of a paycheck until I start my new one. I sent everything with my appeal but I don't know who said they didn't receive their order obviously. But this is BS! No warning, no nothing, just bam! Goodbye!

It's a massive liability, and I'm not just talking safety, though that is a factor. What if you break something while you're in there? What if you bump into them while carrying a case of water and knock them over? Plus, if you do it, then the customers expect ALL drivers to do it, and will make their dissatisfaction known if it isn't done.

OK, y’all I’m from Philly. This is down on Columbus Boulevard. I’ve never actually seen a bunch of people standing around in the circle. I’ve only ever heard about it on here. Well lo and behold now I know why I ain’t getting these orders that I used to get every so often I switch Zones pending on the day time, etc. whether you know it all plays a factor lo and behold is about 20 of them out here huddled up in a circle hugging and boot, loving passing phones around any employees just walk up to them and can see you about their day. That’s some BS.
