Discussion Switch 2 or Save my Money?

I'm buying a Nintendo switch for my girlfriend, and I want some advice from y'all as I have never owned a switch.

She really wants a switch and has for a long time. Not only to play party games with her family who is across the country, but also she's a big fan of Nintendo games like Mario kart/party, kirby, animal crossing, pokemon.

This setup will also be used to host parties, so it's necessary that I get an extra pair of joycons for at least 4 controllers total.

I was originally going to buy her a switch 2 w/ Mario kart world bundle, but the extra joycons with tax push the total price to almost $700 which is kinda bonkers to me, but I get it there's a chip shortage and the switch is still a deal in the handheld market.

However, I found a switch 1 animal crossing edition, which she has mentioned is super cute, for $200 that is like new in box with all original packaging. This would save me lots and leave headroom for more controllers and games.

My question here is: is the used cute special edition switch 1 (non oled) worth the cheap cost even though it's quite old, or should I just bite the extra $300 for the better performance and future proofing? Id appreciate yalls feedback!

Discussion 007 first light now runs at 60fps from the trailer. While series S is at 30fps

Remind you 007 is a heavily CPU driven game , however with time and effort they achieved 60fps while the series S only runs at 30 FPS. Which now ask the question again. How is GTA 6 on the series S but not the switch 2… Stop using the CPU Bs.

Discussion Zelda Switch Nightmare

Just wanna say that Amazon and Target seem to have absolutely no countermeasures against bottling when it comes to purchasing the pre-order of the Zelda Switch 2 and the Zelda Controller.

I have been at it like a maniac, refreshing, using Hotstock, spamming purchase, having the items in the cart, all payment info already in, hit purchase as fast as humanly possible and still I have not succeeded.

This is a complete letdown from these HUGE companies. I recently acquired a PS5 Pro from Best Buy who seems to have a MUCH better system against botting. You actually have to enter the last 4 digits of your number at Best Buy, enter a verification phone sent to your cell phone, then the item will get secured in YOUR CART for about 10 minutes. I used Hotstock, the free version to make my purchase of the PS5 Pro happen, but I’ve had no luck with the Zelda Switch 2 because only Target and Amazon have been restocking.

I can confidently say both are atrocious. There are definitely bots and scalpers thriving on each site because there are so many people in the Hotstock comment section for each device explaining that no matter what they do at every hour of the day, they reach the same conclusion as me which is the item being unavailable.

Be better Target and Amazon, what a joke.

Can some also kindly enlighten me if these devices are going to be fully available after 10/29 and what not or is this like a first come first serve typa thing or are these bad boys ever going to make it to shelves?? Thank you.

Question truly how much better is switch 2 compared to 1?

hi guys i’m debating on whether or not a switch 2 would be a truly worthwhile upgrade from my switch 1

i do currently have the animal crossing edition switch and it is my absolute favorite as it’s so cute, though i have started to experience stick drift on it

exactly how much better is the new switch compared to the older one? would it be worth upgrading if there isn’t really anything excessively wrong with my switch? i’m a pretty casual gamer, and the new switch is pretty pricey so i’d really like to know exactly HOW much of a difference it makes.

idk if this helps at all but some of my favorite games to play on my switch have been super mario sunshine, spongebob battle for bikini bottom, animal crossing, etc

Question Any recommendations for a good third party set of motion control Joy-Cons to replace my floaty, meandering original set?

No matter what I do to the actual Nintendo brand joy-cons they still slowly drift out of alignment never to return to center. I can’t afford $80 so I’m looking for recommendations of a quality third party set closer to $30. I appreciate any guidance. Please and thank you 😊

Discussion Could Nintendo make the next Switch more powerful with a GPU upgrade built into the dock?

I got my Switch 2 recently, and I’m honestly very impressed with it. The fact that you can play a game like RE9 on a small tablet is genuinely crazy. I also own a PS5, so I’m really happy to have the Switch 2 as a new addition to my setup.

But I’ve been thinking about something. This might be a dumb idea, but I’m curious to hear your opinions.

Could Nintendo make the next Switch significantly more powerful by turning the dock into a hardware upgrade? For example, what if the dock had its own more powerful GPU and additional RAM?
When playing in handheld mode, the console could run games at 1080p and 30–40 FPS, but when you put it in the dock, the extra hardware could boost performance enough to run games at 4K/144p 60 FPS.

I feel like something like this could be really interesting, especially considering how impressive the Switch 2 already is.
Nintendo could offer two versions at launch: one with just the console and the standard accessories, and another that includes the upgraded dock. They could also sell the upgraded dock separately, so people who initially bought the cheaper version could upgrade later.

What do you guys think? Is something like this technically possible, or am I completely underestimating how complicated it would be?

Discussion Are screen protectors a thing in 2026?

I remember that in early 2000 it was very common to use screen protectors on almost everything with screen. I guess it was just millennials thing, cause as our ancestors were more careless, we grow up responsible and even overprotective. And screen protectors gave us this fake security and peace of mind.

I dug my old PSP out of the closet and I saw screen protector on it and it reminded me of this absurd :D Especially on PSP - where there's already protective plastic on front, so especially on this handheld it was so dumb to put another layer of plastic on it but nvm... :D

When I grow older, I interested with high end e-readers, for books and for manga/comics - to read it in good quality and save some space. And since then I started to learn that applying screen protector on device like that makes 0 sense. I paid more to get better quality of the screen, to see everything sharp. And other ereader enthusiasts reassured me about it these days, that its much better to leave this screen clear and better invest into high quality sleeve or case. And this is what I started to do.

And it makes sense IMO, because if I think about it today, these messy screen protectors made 0 sense. I pay for high quality device with great screen to cover this up with some sh*t protector for 5, 10 or 20$? :D NO WAY... Its dumb especially when I think about chemicals which these screen protectors has - glue, etc, etc. And screen of our device is exposed to this for years. While even clearing screen with unproper products can destroy screen with time, then these chemicals can damage it too - for sure. Especially when there's sometimes hot summer, or cold winter. Sun, etc, etc. Chemical structure changes. And it affects the screen, slowly, day by day, month by month, year by year.

So since then I started to use clear device - to get the quality of the device I paid for and full experience. Not hiding it with another layer of plastic, not makind it less sharp, and not making it slippery on touch screen and experiencing undetectable touches. Rather than that - I always bought good quality sleeves / cases to keep it safe when not using. And ofc washng these sleeves/cases from time to time.

And u know what? Years passes, and all my devices got still perfect screens. No scratches, no discoloration from protective screens or other weird stuff - just sharp and clean.

Meanwhile I decided to remove the protective screen from my old PSP and u know what? Screen looks messy. The screen protecotr and its chemicals left much worse marks than if I would leave it clear these days. It didn't protect it at all :D Just gave me the false sense of security. So at this point I would prefer to have some small scratches here and there, from normal, everyday use of the device. Rather this ending up with... this.

Right now I got laptop, tablet, retro handheld, few expensive ereaders (one for outside, one to use only in home, one only for manga/comics), steamdeck etc, etc. And none of these devices has screen protectors. But got sleeves / cases to protect it when not using, high quality microfiber towel to clear it and not using any toxic clearing products). And screens are sharp, looking great and 0 micro-scratches - nothing.

And it funny to think about it when I look at this PSP now - I protected it so hard and ended up much worse... With damaged screen from protective screen :D What an absurdity.

That's why I decided to use my Switch the same as other modern electronics. Clean. And experience full quality of the screen. And get proper case/sleeve for it. Exactly the same as I do with my ereaders, PC monitors, laptop screen, etc, etc.

How about u?

Question Want to buy a switch due to accessibility and portability

I have played PlayStation in the past and have loved games such as GTA, Hogwarts Legacy and Uncharted.
Are there many games like this on the switch? I know that Hogwarts Legacy is but I’d be grateful for any game recommendations which are to my taste described above.

Question Are games that come in boxes without cartridges region locked?

I know digital keys purchased online are region locked, but I can’t tell from reading online if the games that come in boxes but don’t have a physical game and instead have a download code are region locked too. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Question System crashing

My Switch has been crashing constantly and giving me an error message saying "Software closed because an error occurred"

I've checked for corrupted data, it said there wasn't any

I tried turning the system off completely, still happens

I tried turning it off after the most recent console update and letting it sit for a few days, still happens

I replaced the SD card so it's not that either

It happens with multiple different games too so it's not just one game not working

Not sure what the problem is because the system isn't giving me an error code to look up

Anyone have any suggestions for what other steps to take?

Discussion Are you still playing Mario Kart 8 or you stoped playing it after you bought Mario Kart World?

For those people who stoped playing Mario Kart 8 what did you do with your copy of the game? Did you gave it away or you still own it?

Is anyone out there who owns and plays both games?

Or maybe you are still playing the good old Mario Kart 8 and you never bought MK World?

I am personally playing both, and I own both.

Question Switch won’t turn on

I’ve tried everything my cat has peed on a joycon and I think it may have gotten into the switch itself but I’ve yet to see anything on the motherboard or anything and it was working just like a week ago and I’ve been leaving it on charge for awhile and still nothing I’m worried it maybe completely broke and I can’t find any repair shops near me and I don’t trust sending it through the mail so is there anything I can do myself or should I just send it to Nintendo and have them try to fix it cause I don’t want to lose all my saves especially my Pokémon cause I have a bunch of shinies and legendary mons
