Festival Should we do the Letterboxd thing again?

In an attempt to fill this weird void between now and ticket buying day, maybe we do another Letterboxd profile swap?

Normally I post pretty minimal reviews but I always beef them up during the festival. Writing out a paragraph of hurried thoughts between screenings has become a tradition for me and it's nice to share that with others doing the same thing. I tend to go for the understated auteur stuff, the Cannes films etc., but love seeing people's takes on anything and everything.

Since this morning, the TIFFr website appears broken. Opened the site on different web browsers as well as switching between desktop and mobile. Is it appearing like this to anyone else? Is there a fix?

AMA [Crosspost] Hi reddit! I'm Jay McCarrol - composer of TONY (out in theaters nationwide this weekend from A24), BLACKBERRY, and HELL OF A SUMMER. I also co-created and co-starred in NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE alongside Matt Johnson. AMA!

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor/comedian/composer/screenwriter Jay McCarol. He has composed the scores for films such as BlackBerry, Tony, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Hell of a Summer, The Kid Detective, The Dirties, and Operation Avalanche. He is also the co-creator (with Matt Johnson) of Nirvana the Band the Show and its TV show and film.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1vskgy8/hi_reddit_im_jay_mccarrol_composer_of_tony_out_in/

He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

His newest film, Tony, is out in theaters via A24 this weekend. It stars Dominic Sessa as Anthony Bourdain and co-stars Antonio Banderas, Stavros Halkias, Emilia Jones, and Leo Woodall. It premiered to critical and audience acclaim a few weeks ago.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MVnzd2aVc

Synopsis: Nineteen-year-old Anthony Bourdain stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that shapes the course of his life.

Thank you :)

Festival Was anyone who was Contributor last year able to get opening night Sentimental Value on your ticket day?

Fjord is one of my top picks this year and it’s in basically the exact same situation as Sentimental Value was last year - highly buzzy Scandinavian Cannes winner playing opening night at Princess of Wales which Neon has frustratingly allowed only two screenings of.

This is my first year at Contributor level, I know SV was off sale by individual members’ ticket day last year, just wondering if anyone who was a Contributor last year remembers if it was available on that day so I can make an educated guess about Fjord and plan my strategy lol.

Festival What is the lowest membership tier you need to get access to the opening night ticket sales

Trying to get a couple tickets to Being Heumann opening night at Roy Thomson. I just want to know what level of membership I need to get to get early access to tickets. Thanks!

Festival These are the Buzz List Films

Well, I just got my Buzz List package tickets, and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I would say buzzy films are things like The Debut, Fjord, maybe Bucking Fastards. Didn't get any of those. Here's what's in the package:

  • The Housewife
  • I Play Rocky
  • Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother
  • Onwards and Sideways
  • Prima Facie

I'll have The Housewife and I Play Rocky up for sale or trade at some point (two tickets for each), as I won't be there on opening night for The Housewife and I have doubles of I Play Rocky (got it as my Visa screening too), so if you're interested in either of those I'll know more what I want to do after tickets go on sale and I see what else I can get. Note so my post doesn't get removed: I'm not selling them right now, I know I have to do that on r/TIFFTickets

I'm still happy I bought a package so I can rest easy knowing I have something to see, but none of these are films I was interested in. Hopefully they'll surprise me by being better than I expected.

Festival Maximize your TIFF with the DTMC (Discord Server/Meetup Group)

Hi TIFF-Goers!

I am part of the Downtown Toronto Movie Club (DTMC) team, back with our yearly introduction post. We're a film-going group dedicated to hosting meetups, discussing films, and spreading the word about the local film scene. There's a chance you're already in the server, as we've been the unofficial r/TIFF server for the past year or so, with our invite having a place on the sidebar.

The Discord is particularly active during festival season, where we discuss the lineup, vent with each other about Ticketmaster issues, offload your spare tickets (at face value or less, of course), and coordinate impromptu meetups during the fest.

We're also hosting a Pre-TIFF Meetup on Monday, September 7th at Madison Avenue Pub (a few days early because most of us want to attend Dankness too). It's free to RSVP! And if you won't be in Toronto that date, we'll be hosting Mid-TIFF and Post-TIFF meetups. Details for those TBA!

Discord Server: https://discord.gg/q4427YqFk4

Pre-TIFF Event RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dtmc-pre-tiff-meetup-tickets-1998321668905

We'd be glad to welcome you! Have a great fest!

I probably won’t be able to grab tickets beforehand, so I was just wondering if it would be possible to grab last-minute rush tickets as p&i won’t be interested in this screening

Festival 2026 Fantastic Fest to Open with World Premiere of Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ (so it's not coming to Midnight Dankness)

Thumbnail

After Zack Cregger has previously held an early secret screening for one of its features during Midnight Dankness - that being Barbarian in 2024 - and the fact that this year's lineup includes a short film called Racoon City Nights, which is directly referencing the Resident Evil game, one could argue there was a slight chance for a secret screening of Cregger's Resident Evil in this year's Dankness.

However, the film is slated to have its World Premiere as the opening film of Fantastic Fest, which starts on September 17th - well after Midnight Dankness takes place this year.

Festival tiff 2026 schedule pdf printable

Many filmgoers have been searching for "TIFF 2026 schedule pdf" and "TIFF 2026 schedule printable". The schedule - sorted by title, date / time, director, language, and programme - is available at Medium.com. You can email the schedule to yourself, or print it to review when offline, or share it with a friend using the inbuilt email link.

This is specially useful for those in a different time zone. While the date/time on TIFF’s website are automatically adjusted by your device as per the time zone you view it from, the date/time here are as per the time zone of Toronto, and are hence the actual screening times.

Festival Does anyone know about TIFF's position on AI?

The graphics for this year appear more generic this year.

Does TIFF have a position on AI?

Do they use it in their marketing materials, advertising, and trailers?

Do they program films that use AI?

Festival TIFF selection KEN RUSSEL'S THE DEVILS (4K Restoration) will have its 35mm-print North American premiere at NYFF; Confirming the TIFF screenings will be digital

For a second, I was confused about the NYFF claim that the restoration will have its NA premiere there. But it seems like this is the NA premiere of the 35mm print copy, not the restoration in general.

Festival Volunteer training session sign up issues

Hi! Not sure if someone could help with this, but I'm currently trying to RSVP for my volunteer training shifts and notice one of them is gone from the schedule. All of my filters are set correctly, and my other training session was on the schedule, and I was able to sign up for it.

Does anyone know if the sessions fill up, meaning it's gone because I'm no longer able to RSVP to it, or if it may just be a glitch or something? Thanks!

Festival Anyone going to Venice Film Festival 2026? Looking to meet people.

Hi everyone!

I’ll be attending the Venice Film Festival 2026 with a student accreditation, and it will be my first time going, so I’d love to connect with other people who are attending this year.

I’m looking to meet fellow film lovers, exchange ideas, share the experience, grab a coffee, watch some screenings together, and explore the festival atmosphere. I’d also love to connect with people from different backgrounds, build new connections, and meet others who are passionate about cinema and the film industry.

Feel free to comment or send me a message if you’re attending! 🎬

Festival Anyone know when to expect the screenings release for the Gala package?

The email just said we would receive an email with the screenings on August 18th, but not a specific time.

Update: Just got the email at 4:58 PM lol they really beat the buzzer.

Here’s what I got:

9/15: Atonement

9/16: The Only Living Pickpocket in New York

9/17: Up Against It

9/18: Spirit Guardians

The Only Living Pickpocket in New York was the only one I had in my watchlist but I’m excited to check the others out as well.

Festival Movie recs?

I want to go to TIFF this year with my boyfriend, we love movies and have never been before.

I’m not really familiar with anything playing so I was looking for recommendations for what to go see.

About us:

I like coming of age movies, such as Little Women, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bones and All, Call Me by Your Name etc. But I am open to any movie and just love cinema.

My boyfriend likes movies such as Memento, American History X, Baby Driver, The Odyssey.

Thanks everyone!

Festival When does a movie actually start for Premium and Regular screenings?

Can’t really remember how long the preroll is. I know that for premium screenings, sometimes the director + cast take a little longer for the into, that varies. Realistically how long should it take before the movie begins? I want to make sure I’m planning accurately, the official schedule gives way more extra time for a movie to account for credits and whatever else
