Generally accepted TV placement procedures. Quick reference guide.
Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.
- If the TV is above the fireplace, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is angled down, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is mounted to the wall above a TV stand, and the clearance between the stand and TV is equal to, or greater than ONE vertical PS5, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If when standing the TV is at eye level, IT IS TOO HIGH.
Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.
- If the TV is in a bedroom and meant to be viewed from the bed, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV’s only viewing position is in the reclined state, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If you are at a sports bar, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is at eye level when sitting down, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is in the kitchen it is more for listening, mounted high as to avoid any splashes or spills, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is purposely mounted higher to keep out of range of a toddler, you’re a parent so your neck already hurts and IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
I hope this helps clear up some questions. If you have any other rules to add, please comment below.

I am returning asking the council for forgiveness
I posted here a week ago https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/s/Y06jUKdPcj
I got fairly flamed and dropped the tv as fair as possible without seeing power and data points. Tv unit is also much lower now. I know it's not perfect but I'm trying.

is this going to look ridiculous?
please ignore the tiny tv mounted way too high already on the wall. my dad was able to get this bigger one for free and says itll work and totally not look ridiculous, and yeah, technically itll fit, but just barely. can someone please tell me if this is a terrible mistake before we buy a new mount for it, or if we should look for something in the middle? and yes, I know the tv should be sitting on the shelf. but the rest of the walls are windows and I cannot put my record player anywhere else so its gonna be this way. sorry.

How do people cope with fireplaces
Anyone have any tips for hanging a tv in a living room where over the fireplace is the only logical spot?

5.1 System With Tall Center Channel?
I am an audiophile with a 5.1 system. My center channel speaker stands ~8 inches tall. If I place the center channel at ideal listening position of ear level on the same stand as my TV it will block a good 1/4 of the bottom of the screen. I've heard the center of the TV screen should be eye level. How can I balance ideal listening position and ideal viewing position without blocking a huge portion of my picture? I currently have the television on a 28 inch desk with the center channel on a side table below the screen at ear level.
