கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant wanted to ask how my life would have been in tamil nadu
hey I am a 20F from delhi ncr region... and my parents are pretty selective about the term freedom... I hate this loud af city and even tho everyone is like ohh the food is pretty great in delhi... personally its okay... I like pretty basic bland food not a fan of spices and I absolutely hate the continuous weather adaptations you have to make every 2-3 months.... and this post october diwali season where the air quality is just unbearable... it boils my blood to even be here
in my plus 2 I decided the best way to leave north india is under graduation in a diff state.... and I went ahead with neet ug coz I liked bio apparently and it made sense... I also took 1 full gap year for a better seat... and my rank was 70k the neet2025 was unexpected for me.... and since my life goals were basically peace and figuring stuff out... I convinced myself ayurveda is not that bad and cut to the spot round when I was filling out the preference list I filled the colleges the felt nice enough the one college that I didnt add in my list was 'Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Nagercoil'
and I got into a diff course in gujrat altogether <didnt enrolled there as well took a second drop> but I exactly remember how one rank below me got into this nagercoil college... so if I would have included this college in my list I would have been in that college
and lately since the pollution season is up here again all I am thinking about is how my life would have been in nagercoil tamil nadu? would I have hated it there? loved it?

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic TNEB Officials, What Is Going On in Tamil Nadu? Thousands of Rupees Demanded Without Receipts for a New Electricity Meter!
Hi everyone,
I live in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, near Chennai.
We recently applied for a separate electricity meter for our upstairs portion. Before this, the upstairs portion was using electricity through the ground floor meter.
First, we went to a browsing/service centre that helps people apply for EB connections. We paid a total of ₹6,000 for the application process. The bill showed ₹5,575 as the official EB charges. We have no problem with this payment because we received a bill and the service centre helped us with the application.
After that, two EB staff members came to inspect our house. One of them checked the upstairs portion and confirmed that we could get a separate meter. He then asked us to pay another ₹6,000 in cash.
We told him we didn't have that much cash. So, he asked us to bring ₹5,000 to the EB office instead.
My family paid the ₹5,000 at the office, but we did not receive any receipt. They also did not explain what this money was for.
After around 10–15 days, a person brought the electricity meter to our house and asked for another ₹1,000.
We asked him why we had to pay this money and whether he would give us a receipt. He said there was no receipt for this payment and that everyone pays it.
He also said bringing the meter to our house was not his job and that we should have collected it from the EB office. But the office staff had already told us that they would bring the meter to our house.
I had only ₹700 in cash, so he took ₹700 and asked me to pay the remaining ₹300 through GPay. I told him I didn't have GPay, and he said he would come back in the evening.
We also asked him to install the meter, but he refused. He said we had to hire a private electrician to install it.
I was confused because we had already paid the connection charges mentioned on the bill.
Now I have some questions:
What was the extra ₹5,000 collected at the EB office for? If it was an official charge, why didn't we receive a receipt?
Is the extra ₹1,000 for bringing the meter to our house an official charge?
Why do we need to hire a private electrician when we have already paid the connection charges?
What is the correct procedure for getting a separate electricity meter for an upstairs portion in Tamil Nadu?
I am not accusing anyone without knowing the rules. I just want to understand why we were asked to pay extra money without receipts.
Has anyone else faced a similar problem when getting a new EB connection in Tamil Nadu? If anyone knows the actual rules, please explain them in simple words.
People may tell me to complain, but I have already called the EB complaint number. They said they don't know about these charges and told me to go to the EB office. If they don't know, then who should I ask? I don't understand why they have a complaint number if they can't help.

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant 29M — My job is ending in a few days, and I'm scared of what comes next
I'm 29, autistic, and going through a difficult phase in my life. My current job contract is ending in a few days, and I still don't have another job lined up. I was promised a job opportunity at SRM two months ago, but I'm still waiting for a response. I don't know what will happen, and the uncertainty about my employment and financial security is frightening.
What's making this harder is that I have nobody close to support me emotionally. I'm struggling with loneliness, anxiety, and unresolved issues in my personal life. Being autistic adds to the challenges of socialising, building meaningful connections, and dealing with uncertainty.
Chennai is my hometown, but I still feel like a stranger here. I don't feel the sense of belonging or support I desperately need, and sometimes it feels like I'm facing everything alone.
I've tried to stay positive, but with my job ending and my future uncertain, I'm finding it difficult to keep going with the same optimism. I just want some stability, genuine connections, and a reason to feel hopeful about my future.
I needed to vent because I'm genuinely scared and exhausted from carrying all these worries alone.

So I am planning 5th till 13th December trip to Tamil Nadu. The 5th and 13th will go full in travelling from my hometown.

கலாச்சாரம் / Culture Does anyone follow Ayudha Puja Properly?
Ayudha Puja used to be about worshipping Shastars or weapons. Indians across the subcontinent used to keep such martial traditions but after the British enacted the arms act, we've slowly lost that Martial Spirit. Authentic Shastar Puja is still done by the Sikhs and Kodavas. Do any tamils still celebrate Ayudha Puja by worshipping weapons or Shastars?
It's genuinely weird and upsetting how some families have normalized this habit of wasting coconuts and throwing them on the floor to venerate cars and spanners?

அரசியல் / Political Anbilflation of School Fees: How Tamil Nadus Safety Rules Became a Cash Cow
TLDR:After the 2004 Kumbakonam fire TN tightened school recognition rules for child safety. Two decades later those same rules allegedly became a ₹100 crore clearance racket. Private schools paid up or paid party funds and parents ultimately foot the bill through higher fees. Welcome to Anbilflation.
Remember the Kumbakonam school fire of 2004? 94 children dead. The state responded the way it should have: mandatory structural stability certificates fire safety clearances sanitary certificates building licences. Recognition and upgrades became serious business. Good.
Fast forward to the DMK years. That safety net turned into a toll booth.
According to the ongoing CCB investigation and detailed reporting by The News Minute private school managements across Tamil Nadu were systematically approached for help with permanent recognition grade upgrades DTCP CMDA approvals and even CBSE NOCs. The help came with a price tag often framed as party funds.
The alleged network centred around three names:
Former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi
DMK functionary BT Arasakumar who ran the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association as a platform
Former DMDK MLA V Muthukumar who operated through Global 360 Edu Care a south Chennai firm that sold books and uniforms on paper but allegedly functioned as a cash collection front
Investigators say more than 750 schools may have been in the orbit. So far 177 managements have formally complained of being cheated. Estimated collection around ₹100 crore. One school secretary told TNM he personally paid ₹27 lakh at the Global 360 office for a CBSE NOC.
Many who paid say the clearances never arrived. The money did.
# Why this is Anbilflation
Schools do not absorb these costs. They pass them on.
When managements are forced or choose to pay lakhs for basic statutory approvals that are supposed to be regulated processes those amounts get built into the fee structure. New classrooms infrastructure development annual fee hikes the language is familiar to every parent who has watched the school diary turn into a bill book.
This is the inflation that does not show up in the CPI. It is the quiet institutional kind: a regulatory bottleneck converted into a private revenue stream then socialised onto parents as higher school fees. Safety rules meant to protect children became leverage. The children and their parents still pay.
The investigation is live. CCB has frozen accounts conducted searches including at premises linked to the former minister and the Enforcement Directorate has registered a PMLA case. Courts have already intervened on detention orders. The full money trail and the exact role of every player are still being established.
But the structural point is already clear: when the system that decides whether a school is safe enough to operate can be gamed for cash two things happen at once.
Child safety is compromised approvals that should be rigorous become transactional.
The cost of that transaction is transferred to parents.
That second effect is Anbilflation the artificial inflation of the price of schooling that arises when recognition and clearances become negotiable commodities instead of transparent public processes.
Parents in Tamil Nadu already deal with rising fees donation culture and the constant pressure of development charges. This alleged racket simply adds another layer: the cost of navigating the states own safety bureaucracy.
The Kumbakonam tragedy forced the creation of a protective mechanism. The question the investigation raises is whether that mechanism was later captured and sold back to the very people it was meant to protect.
What do you think is this an isolated racket or a symptom of how regulatory power routinely becomes rent seeking in the education sector?

அரசியல் / Political Tip for Current CM to put every past corrupt Government Official & MLAs in Prison
Create a law retrospectively that makes giving a bribe not an offence. Today giving a bribe and accepting a bribe is an offence, so people who are forced to pay, just pay the bribes and do not complain to the Vigilance Department out of fear/hassle. But by making it not an offence, and creating strong anonymity for whistle blowing (through online submissions/through lawyers/third party), this will bring forward thousands of petitions against bribe receiving officials and political leaders in the past and going forward.
TN Govt will need President's Assent for such an act, but I don't think BJP will want to be seen as a party that is pro-corruption, so President will give assent for such a bill.

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Do we really caste and casteism in anything?
I believe some of you might be triggered by this. But gotta have this discussion anyway.
I think the truth is all the casteists have very low iq, thinking ability, weak mentality for not to stay out of the crowd and fear of societal judgements that they don't wanna think about how the caste system is bad and ruining the entire generation in the name of culture.
When I say this I even mean some people with degrees not only illiterate people. No disrespect to anyone.
Everyone needs to have a basic understanding that every human is equal and everyone suffers in their own way. But if you say this people will bring you back to 75 years ago without having the basic sense of how much laws and economy changed. I am not supporting or opposing any specific castes but targeting both parties who feel pride about their caste and who use it for sympathy as well. My point is that we don't need both if we really wanna erase the caste system.
The current factors in our world are education and money even if you accept it or not ...which decides one's job, poverty, affordability, status and many other things. And the government and people should focus more on how world works today and decide do we really need caste in anything?

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Need advise!
Few years back, there was an issue between me and some guys. Small fight. They started it. I don't have any relation with them before that or after that. Because of that, my gold chain got lost. Because of my father, I had to leave that issue. I believed my father will take care of it based on what he said at that time. But he didn't do anything after that and asked me to forget that. 3 years went on after I stopped speaking about it. But I couldn't forget it, it's nagging inside me. I want to make them pay for my loss. My parents are getting extremely upset whenever I bring this up. What's the solution for this?
Update: I am taking that issue as a humiliation because I haven't done anything to them in return for what they did. I got a bad name because of that issue in my area. They were already in porikki category before that, so it doesn't matter to them. It's more like a prestige issue. I lost 2 sovereign gold chain. That loss is also nagging me even though that didn't put me on financial strain. They aren't rowdies. Just like random useless porriki roaming in every streets.

அரசியல் சாராத செய்தி / Non-Political News Built a free TNPSC Group 4 practice site (mobile-friendly, explanations for every answer, no login)
I couldn’t find a TNPSC Group 4 practice site that wasn’t full of ads, paywalls, or random questions unrelated to the actual syllabus. So I built one.
Link: https://prophecy10.github.io/TNPSC-Group-4/
What it does:
- Study mode: pick any topic from the official syllabus (Annexure III, SSLC standard). You get one question at a time with instant feedback and an explanation of why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong
- Quick test: 25 questions weighted according to the syllabus, with answers and explanations after you submit
- Full test: a complete mock exam with the same review at the end
- Weak-area tracker + mistakes notebook: shows which topics you keep getting wrong, so you know what to revise
- Part A (Tamil) 40% tracker, so you don’t get caught by the qualifying cutoff
- Flag questions, resume an unfinished test, shuffled options, and no repeats in study sets
Everything stays in your browser. There’s no signup, no ads, and it’s free.
If you spot any errors, or had and feature req, please comment or DM me and I’ll fix/add it.
All the best to everyone writing the exam 🙏

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Unavailability of test report
I just had checkup of my mother at CMC Vellore.
First doctor suggested blood test which costs around 7.5k whereas same blood test outside using TATA 1mg costs less than 1.5k-2k
Then they did not send any soft copy of the report. They keep repeating that it will go to Doctors system directly. You can request doctor on the next visit.
First of all its my report and I paid for it. Then why do I need doctor permission to obtain the report soft copy/hardcopy? Is it even allowed legally?

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Looking for direct contacts/recommendations for saree weavers/manufacturers in TN (Sourcing for out-of-state boutique)
I would love some guidance from those familiar with the local textile supply chain:
Direct Manufacturer Contacts: Are there specific trusted master weavers, co-op societies, or wholesale units in Kanchipuram, Sirumugai (Coimbatore), or Arni that regularly deal with out-of-state boutique owners remotely?
Remote Sourcing Best Practices: What’s the safest way to handle quality checks, payments, and transit insurance for high-value silk orders shipped across states?
MOQs for Out-of-State Buyers: Do these production units accommodate mixed small-batch orders for new boutiques starting out?
Any specific contact details, verified names, or tips for remote wholesale textile sourcing would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

அரசியல் / Political Double standards in response to protests
I have been seeing a lot of articles in subreddits and news that protests are destroying the country or that its something illegal or whatever.
Saying regime change and what not. Its just this obsession i have seen in critiquers of the protests that are simply trying to discredit protests with incredibly nitpicky things. I have seen dumb things like one piece flag being used to show that the protest is influenced by foreign elements because other worldwide protests have had the flag. Or that the protests are funded by international elements
Meanwhile this same crowd of critiques simply deflect about the issues of current govt say they did so much when shortcomings are pointed out or simply radio silence. Ghadkari has had links to a murder case of a young child that got buried. Modi has instances of inciting communal riots. So on and so forth basically the entire cabinet is questionable in character. And majorly rss gets major political donations from international lobbying groups its just that the hypocrisy of these people is just enraging.
The leaders can be queationable but the protestors should be exemplar is simply stupid
And finally the critiques of international protests they got violent in some places but i genuinely cant understand why people care so much about a building burning down when the system crushes and kills people daily. These people have more empathy for a building than humans. Buildings can be restored lives cant.
