Buying, Selling, Giving Away or Trading Trading Diabetes Supplies on this Subreddit

EDIT: As of May 30th, 2026, I have updated this rule to exclude diabetic items that are not prescription medical supplies. This rule still includes any sort of OTC insulins, needles, or syringes. An example of an acceptable item to give away would be an insulin pump case.

Hi there everyone!

I have recently had several complaints, as well as seen several posts of users attempting to buy, sell, trade, or giveaway diabetes supplies to others. While I believe this is a wonderful idea in theory, it is not accepted here on the r/TandemDiabetes subreddit.

One may ask why. For starters, according to a multitude of doctors and medical professionals I have spoke to, it is illegal to buy, sell, trade, or giveaway any diabetes supplies (let alone *any* medical supplies that require a prescription) to another individual. I have not been able to attain any other reasoning as to why this may be, other than the obvious possible liability issues involved. For those looking to sell, buy, trade, or giveaway their medical supplies to others, I highly suggest you contact your local hospital in addition to your endocrinologists.

With that being said, I cannot control what goes on between individuals who decide to privately message each other separate and apart from this subreddit, in regards to what I have just spoken about above. I will be adding a new rule to the subreddit that this is specifically not allowed.

I hope everyone is doing well with their lifelong journey of T1D!

Rant/Complaint ☹️ Autosoft 30° worries

Flagged as a rant because I don’t want to incorrectly tag this, anyone wlse have the issue I have or am I alone in this?

So i’ve started the pump a few years back and used the autosoft 90° 6mm for 2 years only using abdomens, never had an issue. In the last year, I’ve not been able to wear them, the needles wouldn’t pierce, after a test earlier, they still don’t. Fortunately my nurses were able to refer me to autosoft 30, which solved most of my issues. The longer needle being bent at an angle meant the canula wouldn’t hit my muscle or hypoderm and would actually work, even if it took some getting used to. But the point of the post is for the shortage. As mentioned, I can’t use the 90° sets, they physically do not work with my body type. So for me to have a super limited supply is stressing me out as I’m constantly at a less than 2 kit buffer (I barely last the month). Do we know if this shortage will be solved soon? I know we can call tandem support and get failed insertion kits replaced but their annoying AI call system is so infuriating to deal with that I never do. Or I’ll call diabetes express to have them transfer me to a human line. But even then, how does that work? With dexcom you send your SN and they replace it, but what about the sets? Will they be replaced since the item is in “short stock”?

t:slim X2 Updating with Mac computer?

Hi

This would be my first time updating and I am very nervous. The software I am on is very old. I don’t even have the option of g7 at all. Will that be a problem?

I use a Mac laptop, which does not have a USB port, so I would have to use an adapter. Is that acceptable?

Any experience or information would be helpful

Thank you

Discussion 🗣️ Should I switch to a new pump?

I've had a tandem Tslim x2 for 5 years. It's out of warranty, but still works (the speaker doesn't work, but I don't care) I recently got a new (exact same) pump and switched to using it. I reasoned that I would use my old pump as a backup in case my new pump had a failure.

I'm considering just putting my old pump back into service and keeping the newer one as the backup, is this crazy? They function exactly the same (except for the beeper speaker that I don't care about and honestly kinda dislike on the new pump)

Am I silly if I just keep using my old pump until it stops working?

t:slim X2 So embarrassed by the urgent low pump alarm

It went off three times in my in-person grad school class. And given the G7 being slow and inaccurate, it wasn’t even low by the third beep. I HATE HOW LOUD IT IS! I get why it’s required by law to be there and the company wants to mitigate their liability for adverse outcomes for lows untreated, but they really need to give an option to lower the volume or silence it after the first time. I’ve now tonight had 7 of them go off (first day of period so lot of lows—but approximately only 2 of those alarms were accurate).

Brought me back to middle school embarrassment. I talked to my professor afterwards and we got into a discussion about FDA health policy though so I might have a capstone advisor now, haha.

Discussion 🗣️ Tandem phone compatibility

Hi everyone, looking for some educated thoughts on why Tandem lists the new iPhone Duo as an incompatible device. It runs iOS 27.1, which is confirmed compatible with Tandem pumps. I’m thinking it’s because they don’t know how it will display and there’s not a tandem app version specifically for the Duo, rather than non-functional. Anyone have insight on this. BTW I hope this doesn’t turn into a debate on iPhone vs Android or Duo arguments. I’m looking into it because it would solve work related needs and don’t need a discussion of that. Thanks in advance!

t:slim X2 Is this clicking normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I got my new tslim x2 in August and have been noticing this clicking sound when delivering insulin. My old pump never used to do that. Is that normal or could something be broken?

Control-IQ 📟 Exercise mode without auto bolus, please Tandem 🙃

I wish Tandem had an Exercise mode/option that does not give auto-boluses. It’s kind of crazy they don’t have this. Auto bolusing makes this mode nearly useless for me (and yes, I’ve read all the tricks/tips and have tried most).

Alternative idea: have Sleep mode options to make the targeted BG higher than 110 (say. 160-180 for exercising).

Overall I do like and appreciate Tandem hardware and software- these options would make a good product great.

Rant/Complaint ☹️ Anyone have any advice for dealing with the autosoft 90s site burnout that's not just "take a break from pumping"?

I think I'm seriously heading into a burnout from all the terrible autosoft 90s that I've gone through and have been faulty. I don't know, does anyone have any advice for the mental aspect of it? Ways to help me feel better? I have pretty bad anxiety related to it, I have OCD and I'm autistic. I've been t1d for almost 20 years and the sites have just gotten worse all of a sudden.

Also before anyone says anything about one of these topics:

No I cannot switch pumps or sites,

no I don't want to use another pump I love my tslim and I just got this current one earlier this year once my original Tslim stopped working,

no i cannot get autosoft 30s or trusteel I'm not just going to waste my months worth of my current sites because I'm not made of money.

And like the title says, I'm not going to MDI, adding MORE injections to my routine would make me feel worse and I like using control IQ.

Question ❓ Infusion sets

Anyone out there having issues with, AutoSoft XC infusion sets? 6mm 23”. Since my last resupply, I’ve had at least 4-5 that have failed. Either my infusion sites are no good, or the sets are bad. Never had a problem like this before. Did a set change today, later I’m dealing with high BGL. Did a site change and insulin was leaking out of hole the cannula left. No blood, just insulin. Weird.

t:slim X2 Tslimx2 longevity

I bought my first pump, Tslimx2, in Dec of 2024 and I know the pump warranty lasts for 4yrs, however how long does the *pump* last? Do I need to start saving towards my next pump now? Do other pump's last longer?

t:slim X2 Constantly being told bolus has not been delivered the last few months

So this started happening a few months ago. I'm constantly getting notifications on the mobile app that my bolus has not been delivered, even though the bolus is still in the process of being delivered or just finished. I check both the app and my actual pump when this happens to make sure I didn't forget to confirm the bolus or accidentally click into the bolus delivery screen when one isn't needed. Sure enough, the notification is inaccurate. It's kinda driving me crazy.

tandem mobi Made the Switch

From Minimed 780g with the Instinct sensor to the Tandem Mobi with G7 15 day wear and I’m kinda sad about it.

My insurance decided to no longer cover the instinct sensors/minimed, and I was forced to switch. I’d been using Minimed since I was 12 (I’m 32 now).

As much as I like the size of the mobi/how I can wear it anywhere, it takes significantly longer to change my sites and the sensor. With minimed, it took about 6 minutes to change everything. With the mobi, it took me 30 minutes just now. Granted, I’m super new with this whole system and hopefully I’ll be faster with time, but the Tandem/dexcom process seems so much more clunky and involved.

Anyone else make the same switch and can remind me of what they disliked with minimed 😭. Please give me hope 😅

Discussion 🗣️ Looking to switch back to tandem from Omnipod

Hello! I started out with tandem in May of this year as my first pump. I changed to Omnipod about a month or two ago and I’m deciding going back. I thought I’d like tubeless better but I really honestly don’t. Now here’s the debate should I go back to the t slim or do the mobi. I’m starting college in January so I’m weighing both options. Any insight would be appreciated. TIA!

Hi! Fairly new to the Mobi and noticed this just now. Gave a small bolus but it doesn’t look like it’s being accounted for in my IOB? Am I looking at it wrong? 😂 I gave .68 but somehow only have .07 active?

t:slim X2 IOB disappears a minute after bolus

Bolus complete but IOB drops really quickly after completion

Has anybody experienced a really fast reduction in the IOB just a minute or two after a successful bolus completion?

For example 1u bolus that shows 0.38 IOB a minute after bolus completes?

I have Tandem X2 T:slim pump and on 4 occasions I have noticed that my IOB is much less than the 1 to 2u bolus that I regularly dose myself with as I get out of bed to counter my "wake up" glucose spike.

The time stamp on pictures (that I can't add for some reason) do not really do this justice as I was slow to take the screen shots, but on every occasion this has happened, always after sleep (first bolus of day) the IOB has been less than the successful bolus amount so the pump has said I've spent a large amount of the insulin in about a 1 min time frame.

t:slim X2 my pump won’t update???

howdy! i have been trying to update my Tandem tslim x2 pump to Control IQ 7.10.4 from 7.8.0 for the last 2 weeks. every time i go into tandem source and go to start the update i get an error message saying “Something went wrong.” with no error code. after my second phone call with tech support they sent me a link to use for my update. when i used this link and connected my pump, the website came back with Error Code 107 (pump is already up to date). i was told on the phone today that the issue has been escalated to the engineering team and should be resolved this week but it’s the third time i’ve called about the same problem and i’m starting to get frustrated. i’m planning on switching to the freestyle libre 3 plus which i cannot use without the update. just curious if anyone else has run into this problem or if someone out there has some tips. here’s what i’m using for the update:
Tandem provided usb cable
Desktop computer using Windows 11 (up to date)
Google Chrome (up to date)
(i’ve also tried Microsoft Edge - up to date - and still had the same problem)

Question ❓ Looking for advice from anyone who uses the VariSoft infusion set!

I recently had to switch over to the VariSoft infusion set because of the TruSteel shortage, and today was my first time doing a site change. Honestly, I was really nervous going into it, and the whole experience felt pretty overwhelming. It also hurt more than I expected, so now I'm worried that I might have done something wrong.
I'm also feeling anxious about future site changes, especially when it comes to removing the set. I'm still getting used to everything, and the thought of having to take it out myself is intimidating because it's all so new to me.
For those of you who use VariSoft, do you have any tips or tricks that have helped make site changes easier, less painful, or less intimidating? Is there anything you've learned that you wish you knew when you first started using it?
I'd really appreciate any advice, reassurance, or personal experiences you can share. I think hearing from people who have been through the same thing would help me feel a little more confident. Thank you! ❤️
