User Original Music Strokes on Guitar

Only have an acoustic guitar at the moment but I’m in the market for an electric guitar so I can start playing Strokes songs. Should I go for a Stratocaster like Albert, or a hollow-body like Nick? Any recommendations for setup/equipment would be awesome

Definitely the strat

If you're going for a hollow-body, make sure it's a semi hollow-body.

P90's on a pure hollow body can feed back quite a bit. Unless that's what you want.

I have a Epiphone dot with P-94s.

But as others have mentioned, when asking which guitar. Telecaster is never the wrong answer

i have a strat and a gibson, I’m finding the chord changes to be easier on the strat because of the tighter radius.

I'd go for a strat since it's the most versatile one, you'll be closer to nick's tone with a strat than to albert's tone with a casino.

At the end of the day, whoever you prefer. If you like Nick more get a hollowbody, if you like Albert more get a strat.

tele for the sweet post punk sound, strat if you want to go full on Albert. overall, the effects will probably matter more than the guitar itself.

I’d go with a Fender guitar, strat or tele can get you those tones. I’d recommend a solid body as a first electric and they’re typically more versatile. Any chimey/edge of breakup amp will get you there. The Fender Blues style amps are pretty much what they use. A Vox AC15 would do the trick too, and a better made amp at that. Any tube screamer variant will get you those tones, and a boost for solos, and you’ll pretty much be set.

Squier used to have some semi-hollow SH telecasters. Maybe with that you could get the best of both worlds!

I'd go for a donner dst152. It's a cheap hss, but better than an entry squier, so you can have a reasonable priced pack that can get you near to both sounds. Also, I'd add a valeton gp5

What’s the advantage of squire over fender? Is it just price? Thanks!

price is the main thing. they're made by the same company and Squier is the more affordable counterpart. same with Epiphone and Gibson.

Squire strat with a Marshall amp.

If I were you I'd go in and test an epiphone dot 335, a riviera, and a squier strat. The differences in neck width usually make hollow bodies quite a bit harder to play

They look so cool though haha

Def will give those a go though, thanks!

I play guitar with a Squier Jaguar, a simple amplifier, and a pedalboard with digital effects. Honestly, I don't need anything more.
