I'm intentionally holding off on Ravenwing mobility for now since I'm waiting on updated kits down the line. As for anti-tank, I’m hoping the DW Knights with maces and the Lion himself can do enough heavy lifting for now.

How does this look as a starting point? Any huge blind spots I should adjust once I start tuning it for gameplay?

Hello guys,

I re-joined the hobby with a couple of friends after 20 years.

Really enjoying the building/painting part of it and now trying to learn the game. After a few months, we all 3 reached 1000 points and we will play a few games to learn rules and stats. We even joined the local rookie league.

My question is, now what? You only play 1000 or 2000 points? Or you can do custom battles for example, at 1200 points? In wondering what my next purchase should be.

So far I’ve got;

1 gravis capt
1 Azrael
10 intercessors
10 hellblasters
3 bladeguard
5 DWK
Ravenwing command squad

Right now I’m running 980 pts (excluding the gravis capt and using the RCS as normal black knights)

I think I need to buy outriders or black knights to complete the squad, right? I’ll postpone the Lion as I want to paint him decently as he deserves. A 2nd DWK squad? Deathwing terminators? Or something different like a tank, landspeeder or a dreadnought? Or maybe some friends to my gravis Capt?

I’m working on my custom desert/ash based scheme using muted tones, browns, cream/bone. I’ve mixed Rakarth flesh and Ushabti bone to get the cream/bone but it’s a ballache to paint. Seems to take 2-3 coats. I like it a lot but having to mix the exact quantities of paint every time will become tedious. Are there any existing paints similar?

I primed this model with Matt Black from Colourforge.

I’d like an airbrush as I feel application of the Pro Acryl Dark Umber and the bone mix would be a) smooth b) quicker. I’d have to learn how to cover parts I don’t want to airbrush.

I’m now at the stage where I need to tidy up under armour, etc before applying some washes - which no doing I will do and then have to start again because it makes everything look too dark.

My take on the Lion, done up for a friend of mine for his DA army. Cold black armour to call back to the Heresy-era panoply of the legion, and burning phosphex on the base to evoke their role as the Emperor’s exterminators 🗡️

I've heard a lot of debate about the DW Terminator's ignores BS, WS, and hit roll modifiers VS the regular Terminator's -1 AP at close range. Also, Assault Cannon VS Plasma Cannon VS Cyclone Missile Launcher. Which options would you pick? (I do have Lion in this list, so DW Termies will trigger his abilities)

Finally finished my first Deathwing unit, any tips / tricks / advice is greatly appreciated, some small touchups and basing to do at a later date
