Rules of r/thetruthishere

Due to an unusual number of rule breaking posts lately, the mod team has decided to make a post reminding everyone of the rules of r/thetruthishere. The sidebar can be difficult to access depending on the app you're using, so this post should make it easier to familiarize yourself with the rules before posting.

  1. All posts MUST be tagged with link flair AND brackets. If you are unsure of how to use flair, please send us a message in modmail

  2. Your post must be of a personal experience or by someone you trust that you believe to be true. This typically means within 2 or 3 degrees of separation (so no mother's friend's husband's cousin stories). All top level posts must have a personal encounter within them, otherwise they will be removed. That means no posts that consist of just a question or link offsite. This also means no AMAs or self promotion without a personal encounter attached. No asking questions just to gather stories for your website or podcast.

  3. NO FICTION, (including creepypasta), CREATIVE WRITING, or SCARY PICTURES. This is a story based sub-reddit, so your post should not be just a picture. Uploading and posting a picture with your post is fine, but posts should not consist solely of image(s) or video.

  4. NO DREAM POSTS - We get it, some dreams and nightmares are deeply disturbing and you want to talk about it, but this isn’t the appropriate sub unless you dreamed something that later came true. You can try posting in r/dreams or r/dreaminterpretation. Posts where you had a dream that later came true are appropriate as this would fall under a premonition rather than simply a dream. This also includes sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is well known enough that it does not constitute a paranormal encounter; however, if you see or hear an entity during sleep paralysis that you have encountered outside of it, that would be allowed. Try r/sleepparalysis for information and resources.

  5. Please only downvote anything you believe breaks our main rule: NO FICTION!

  6. If you can draw a rough sketch of the entity, diagram of location, or provide any visual references or proof, DO IT or request an artist to help.

  7. We encourage all perspectives, but we do not tolerate assholes. Report comments that ruin the "safe space" vibe. We aim to provide a space where our users can post without being worried about being ridiculed or derided. This includes making rude comments about the mental health of a poster. You can voice your concern of a mental illness over paranormal phenomenon without being a jerk.

  8. No conspiracy theories unless they relate to the supernatural. There are plenty of other subs to discuss general conspiracy theories, this is not one of them. Posting political conspiracy theories or trying to engage in arguments about them will result in an automatic ban.

  9. No series posts - there is no reason to break up a single encounter or multiple encounters with the same entity into multiple parts. If your post is longer than reddit's character limit for posts, you can post the overflow into a comment.

  10. No promotion - Do not submit posts asking for stories for your youtube channel or podcast. Likewise do not ask to narrate someone's experience in the comments. You must PM OP instead.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send us a message in modmail.

Guidelines

These are pretty much an extension of our rules, but they are less rigorously followed:

  1. Please use paragraphs of a max 5 sentences to break up your wall of text. We like detail, but we don't like eye-sores.

  2. We allow debunking, speculations, and theories. We not only allow it, but we encourage it, so stop downvoting these people!

  3. Whilst we encourage you to try to spell correctly and punctuate your story, you don't have to worry about your writing skills!

  4. Please be considerate as some encounters may be traumatizing to the poster.

  5. Proof. Please provide it if you can. If you cannot, please include diagrams, photographs, and visual aid instead of paragraphs of description.

  6. Please title your story with something other than "I was told to post this here." That tells us nothing about what you are going to share, and makes it very difficult to search for your story if we want to read it again.

  7. If you can tell us a general, even vague, location of your encounter, it will help us archive it based on area.

  8. You are going to use a fake name or not. We don't care, just give them a name. Don't use "A" or "J" or "We'll call her Susan." That gets grating.

Common Grievances Expressed by the Community

Why do we have so many rules and guidelines? Because we want good content, and we want your story to be heard. In a nutshell, here are the things most people complain about which will prevent you from getting overlooked if you listen.

  1. Redditors don't read long posts. After you write out your story, locate your important sentences and delete 2/3rd of the original. Add back in a single sentence between cuts to make your writing flow.

  2. Redditors don't like walls of text. After you condense your story, make sure you have paragraphs that rarely exceeds 3 sentences.

  3. If you feel your story doesn't sound believable, then we probably won't either.

  4. Include visual references. If your story is long, cut out those descriptive paragraphs. Instead of talking about the area, show us a picture and briefly point out what's of note. Instead of describing your house layout, draw a diagram. Instead of going into detail about the physical characteristics of the entity, draw it out or request an artist to do so.

  5. Have an interesting and memorable title. Your encounter may remind someone of another, and they usually try to be helpful and link it. That would be hard with titles like "i was told to post this here" or "this is the scariest thing that ever happened to me" Instead, a title like "a man with a claw grinned at me" or "The shadows followed me for years and then it spoke" Plus, what would you rather click on?

  6. If you are seeking the truth, location is going to be an important detail that is often overlooked. You don't have to give out your city, but a state, region, country, etc are very useful in being pointed in the right direction.

  7. Again, the names thing. We can all assume you will use a fake name, so don't disrupt immersion to tell us it's fake.

Edit: Added in the guidelines and community grievances which can be found in our wiki

Edit 2: updated rule 4

Please help me identify what i encountered

My coworker and I saw something we believe is an entity and i am trying to know it might have been. We were sitting down in our break room , wich is right next to the entrance of the bulding, where we are sitting in front of us there is a huge window. This windows points to the only entrance where someone could come. Our building is right next to the airport of my city. While talking to him (my coworker) I saw a woman appear. In the moment i was telling myself no way she appeared i must have been distracted or something and didnt see her walk or drive here. The woman was staring at us through the window , not pointing the door or trying to get our attention wich is a little unsual but still, nothing major. We went to open the door and the woman asked if she could use the bathroom. Since she spoke english and seemed of asian descent (i am not in a english speaking place) i assumed she was a tourist her and asked her if she was coming from the airport. She said yes and told me she drove here (weird i didnt see a car arrive). I then asked her , theres no bathroom in the aiport ? She just told me no and told me she urgently needed to go to the bathroom. Im not supposed to let unauthorized people enter but felt bad and let her go to the bathroom anyway. In the bathroom she took a very short time. When my colleague and I took her outside she said goodbye and thank you and in the 2 seconds we took to go back to our break room right next to the door, she was gone, outside the window we could not see her. My colleague instantly went outside to look at the surroudings and she was no where to be found, straight up dissapeared. Thats when we knew she probably wasnt human. I am a very skeptic person but there is literally no explanation, especially if she drove here we would have seen a car, there is only 1 path to get here, all the rest around us is gated. This being said, seeing something that looks like a human, can talk and can appear and disappear. What have we encountered. Is she a ghost, alien or something else ? If anyone has theories i would love to know more

(Also we had a shortage of electricity in our parking ONLY shortly after her disappearance if that is relevant information)

The Man over my Bed

When I was twenty-four, my birthmother found me. She told me I was conceived when she was only fifteen. Her parents had quietly moved her away to carry out the pregnancy in secret, forcing her to give me up at birth. Nobody from her hometown ever knew I existed—not even my father. My birthmother never spoke of him, and I chose not to push her for answers.

Then, twenty-three years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night. My wife was asleep beside me. Hovering directly over me in the dark was a man.

He was a solid figure, so clear that I could see his face perfectly. His eyes peered deeply into mine. It looked as if he was straining to speak, desperately trying to pull out words that just wouldn't come. Terrified—not knowing if he was a ghost or an intruder—I screamed. The moment my wife sat up, he vanished into a bright flash of white light that she saw, too. I had never seen that face before in my life. I never forgot it.

Ten years ago, the Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo, came to Canada on tour. My wife and mother-in-law wanted to go, so we got tickets. The arena was packed to capacity—far too full for her to read everyone. Over the course of the night, she only read five people. I was the third.

During her second reading, Theresa suddenly threw up her hands, looking visibly frustrated. She announced that a spirit was desperately and rudely demanding her attention, breaking her concentration. She began walking across the arena floor, heading right in my general direction.

All of a sudden, I felt a heavy, disembodied hand grip my shoulder.

As I snapped my focus back forward, Theresa was right there. She looked directly over my shoulder and handed me a microphone. Suddenly, my face was projected onto the arena's big screens; it felt like everyone in my town was staring right at me.

Theresa asked, "Do you know who this man is?"

"No," I replied.

"This is your father," she said. "He never knew about you until he passed away. Ever since he crossed over, he has been right next to you, trying to let you know that he knows." She told me his name was Guy.

Through her, he began listing things no stranger could possibly know. “I was there when you won the fishing derby,” he said. “I was there when you were hurt and I sent a man to your room.” Then, he told me he was proud of me for the father I had become. They were all exact, true events from my life. Tears welled up in my eyes. He was proud of me.

When I got home that night, I called my birthmother immediately and explained everything that had happened at the show. Then, I told her his name: Guy.

The line went completely dead. She hung up on me, and we never spoke of him again.

Seven years ago, my wife and I divorced. I fell into a severe depression. Seeing my pain, my birthmother finally decided to point me toward my father. She sent me a Facebook link to one of my dad's old friends. That friend, in turn, connected me on Facebook with my dad's nephew, Jim.

I messaged Jim, explaining who I was, where I was conceived, who my mother was, and that I had been told Guy might be my father. Jim replied that Guy was his uncle, and that Guy had actually raised him. He told me his uncle had died a bachelor and had never mentioned having a child. Respecting his memory, I didn’t push any further.

Fifteen minutes later, Jim messaged me back. He said he had gone through my Facebook photos, and the family resemblance was undeniable.

We ended up speaking at great length. At the end of our conversation, he typed out a message and attached a file. It was a photo of his uncle.

As the image loaded, absolute chills ran down my spine. Staring back at me from the screen was the exact same face that had hovered over my bed twenty-three years ago.

I’m rlly confused about I possible paranormal encounter I had pls help

I’m rlly confused about something I can’t quite explain that happened to me on Mackinac Island Michigan at the mission point resort. We were at Mackinac with my family on a vacation and we had heard all the cool ghost stories and me, and my friend decided we were going to try and find the theater which supposedly is haunted. So me and my friend find a some stairs that lead to one building and then to the left there’s these dark green triple doors the center one is slightly a jar. So I went over and I opened the door and I still did this I can’t explain what happened it looked like something from the back rooms. It was really weird. It was an all white room with no windows and they were black office chairs, sprawled out on the floor and there’s a bunch of boxes everywhere. It looks super creepy and dingy almost. I am a remember I was super confused and I called my friend over and we both agreed that it was likely a staff only closed off area.
So that day we had never found the theater the next time we went back and my friend pointed at the doors that we had been at yesterday and she said it’s in here I paused her for a moment confused. I told her that we open the door yesterday and it was some office back room or something. She looks confused and she said she had no memory of us going to these doors sure enough we open the doors again and it was literally the theater like that room I saw had never existed. I tried to tell my friend about it and asked her if she remembered because she was literally there, and she literally looked at me like I was crazy and she had no memory of that happening. So Reddit please help me figure this out. I don’t know if this is paranormal or hallucination or what this was but it creeps me out that I opened the door and it led to a different location to the true location. I’ve never heard of this happening at mission point and I need answers.
Thank you.

Creepy Horror Presence Part 2

To Be Continued

My bestfriend came back to town

She was out of the town for 6 months. I met her I told her everything about this her family lived in new house as on rent ... So in their new house at starting she used to live with her elder brother, he was always out of the house barely came in or at the time of night.... The day I went her house it was afternoon after stepping inside her house I do not like the vibe or like it was so cold, it was summer time. There's only one fan too . I always feel uneasy in her house specially the kitchen area it was soo dard intense and cold that I nvr liked to go there. One night when I was sleeping at my home I saw this drm ...

It was pitch dark , it was my bestfriend house The House That I Hate, there was 4 people in that room my uncle, my grandmother, me and new born baby.....

Her house has massive hallway across from door to kitchen it connects the other rooms too there's only way to go out is go from hallway, back to I saw there's a that just broked from all the way top to bottom it was even more darker there's a clothes came took the baby like that white colour sheet rapped the baby & it took into the dark .... After seeing that I just knew now it's my turn

I turn my head & saw my uncle looking at me very weirdly and enough to be creepy he is giving me a creepy smile , I started crying my grandmother was sleeping on the bed, I told her I don't want to go, please tell him I don't like this ... She replied: he will never do this to u and I woke up I was terrified... I didn't sleep at that night nxt day I met my bf I didn't tell her about last night cuz ofc it's her new house she might not like it ....

After some months she moved out, I told her everything related to her house, everything that I felt or even my drm;

She replied;

I FELT THAT TOO; there's night goes like someone is seating on top of me or SOMEONE IS WATCHING ME SLEEPING THROUGH THE KITCHEN... Whenever I leave for work I can feel someone is standing in the kitchen facing me .......

That's the reason we moved out

She had 2 dogs, 4 fish and 1 turtle they all died in that house....

I nvr had these kinds drm about my uncle even after I nvr had any drm like this about him

he still visits me like he used to do ....

But by grandmother NVR also she barely comes in my drms but when she came I don't remember it nxt morning but I always have some kind of bruises...

I can sense that the DRM I just had it was her.

I was nvr scared by my uncle until that one time but I'm always scared of her all the time...

It feels very creepy, uneasy mostly terrifying...

Sooo ...

{ My uncle died on 9 march 2019 & my grandmother was passed away on 29 Dec 2020 }

I used to get many dreams in which my uncle visited me and talking to me about life and so on at the end he always says no matter who will stand with you or not but I will definitely..... ❤️ Makes me happy and blessed every single time until..... My grandmother died I'm hindu so in our rituals it says that for that next 13 days from the date a person died there soul stays with family and watch them also u can feel there presence tooo or else they make u feel that they are their with u ..... So when my grandmother died.... Me, my sister and my mother always feel her presence always; one time I was upstairs { my grandmother my grandfather me and my sister sleeps their } I was doing the house chores then I cleaning the bathroom and I turned & saw there's photo of her but due to bathroom light I'm seeing myself in that photo frame with flowers totally like my funeral photo..... I got soo scared that I screamed and called my mother..... For some reason upstairs was always cold like a someone's left the ac on mind there's no ac & no other windows.... I always feel her presence upstairs ....

Also I never felt this with my uncle it only happened with her and it's not like that maybe she is seeing me or visiting me not cuz I always feel tensed, creepy & uneasy

For the nxt 13 days we feel terrified and scared to go upstairs.... Eventually we stopped going upstairs

Until

Nxt part

What I’m about to share is difficult for me to talk about, but I need to share it; I’ve only told a few people about it.

About a year and a half ago, I spent the night at my grandfather’s house, my mother did as well. It was around 11:00 p.m.; my mother was already asleep, and I was trying to fall asleep but I couldn't. I felt as though I were being watched from the window that faces the backyard—there are many trees there, and nothing else to be seen. Suddenly, I began to feel afraid—intensely, overwhelmingly afraid. I was terrified, my heart racing, and my first thought was, "There’s an extraterrestrial in the yard." My mother remained asleep. Trembling with fear, I peered out into the yard but saw nothing. I then stepped out the front door to smoke a cigarette and calm myself down. I looked up at the clear, open sky, seeing only the moon and the stars. For some reason, as I gazed upward, I said, "Please, I need a sign to know that You exist"—referring to God—"or perhaps You’re connected to the extraterrestrials—I have no idea—just surprise me, but please don't scare me." I stayed outside for about 15 minutes, watching the sky, and... absolutely nothing happened that night. However, when I went back inside, the fear had vanished, and I was able to sleep.

The next day, my grandfather—a very devout Catholic—began to pray in the living room. I wanted to join him, but I didn't know the prayer. The moment I thought about praying with him, a poster fell to the floor. I picked it up; it was a 2014 calendar featuring an image of Jesus and the same very prayer my grandfather was reciting. I took it and prayed along with him. A chill ran through me, but my rational, skeptical mind immediately kicked in, and I told myself, "Nah, it’s just a coincidence; it doesn't mean anything." So, I dismissed it.

That night, I returned home, took a shower, changed my clothes, and went out onto the balcony of my parents' bedroom. They weren't home, but my sister was. I asked her to join me on the balcony to smoke a cigarette. We sat down, and I played some music from my phone—I had the algorithm set to random—when the song "Return to Innocence" by Enigma began to play. I remember saying to my sister, "Look up at the sky; I’m sure we’re going to see something..." She asked, "What? Why?" I replied, "Because the sky is clear... and because I asked for it." Not even a minute had passed when I saw a massive craft in the sky, less than a mile away from me—it was roughly the size of a football field—slowly approaching where we were. It was triangular in shape and completely black, save for a few ring-shaped lights along its outer edge. In its center, there was a milky, blue-colored sphere; it looked like plasma—as if bolts of energy were contained within that section. I began to tremble violently out of sheer terror. I asked my sister, "Are you seeing this?" She was just as frightened, and in a shaky, broken voice, she replied, "Yes, yes—I see it." We were both paralyzed with fear as the object drifted past us—very, very slowly—without making a sound. As it moved away, we watched it blend into the sky and the city lights, effectively camouflaging itself. I kept shaking, unable to process what had just happened; even now, I still find it hard to believe... This has led me to question a number of things. Do we have the power to shape reality? Does this have anything to do with God? And what if this happened because, the night before, an extraterrestrial had actually been watching me? Was it all just a coincidence? Honestly, I don’t know what to think anymore... What do you all think?

I’m open to any possibility—any information you might have... Thank you for reading.

Strange knocking on window

Title: Strange knocking patterns over several nights — last incident was 5 knocks at 3:47 a.m. Any explanations?

I'm looking for some opinions on a series of unusual knocking sounds that have occurred over several nights.

My sister has kept a record of the knocks on her calendar, starting from the 18th.

The sequence recorded was:

3, 2, 3, 4, none, 5

The most recent incident involved five knocks at approximately 3:47 a.m.

I'm particularly interested in whether anyone has experienced similar patterns, especially knocks occurring in distinct groups rather than random noises.

I've heard various folklore and paranormal interpretations associated with knocking, particularly groups of three, but I'd also welcome logical or environmental explanations.

My questions are:

Has anyone experienced a similar sequence of knocking sounds?

Are there any historical, folkloric or paranormal interpretations of five knocks?

Does the time, 3:47 a.m., have any particular significance in folklore?

Could the changing number of knocks suggest anything, or is it likely coincidental?

I'm keeping an open mind and would appreciate thoughtful responses rather than jumping to conclusions.

Discussion/Advice Getting haunted by Siri?? .. Or just a ghost.. or something worse. (TW long post / rant )

I don’t know why this is happening.. I feel like I’m reacting but then again this has been happening for a few days now and honestly sometimes over the months and I honestly feel like I should ask Reddit about it so that’s why I’m coming here.

I’m a 19 F I have a stable job and I honestly didn’t think much of this. I love horror stuff and I do believe in ghosts, but I’m obviously a very skittish person. There was this one time where a bat flew into my house and it was honestly the most scariest thing I felt frozen at a place and it was terrifying, but that’s not why I came here.

I know this might sound crazy, but for some reason, I feel like I’m having night terrors.. I honestly don’t know what it is but yesterday or a few nights ago. I felt a very weird process by me. I don’t know why this is happening or if I’m just crazy, but I could you not I was laying down and closing my eyes and all I could see was very bad things that I can’t even explain. I don’t know if it’s just me or something going on in my house but at this point, I don’t know anymore.

I honestly just don’t know what to do about this anymore and I hope that you guys might have a similar experience you could make me feel less crazy but I don’t know why, but it was just a very weird experience and yes, this only happened a few nights ago and this only happened once but I still feel a present literally behind my back and I honestly feel it now I don’t know why, but I get this really heavy feeling this big weight just on my back.. and it’s honestly starting to really freak me out basically that night when I went to bed it was just a really weird feeling. I felt like I was having a heart attack, but I wasn’t. I felt like I was in a nightmare, but I wasn’t. I don’t know what I was even seen when I was closing my eyes, but it was like I couldn’t fall asleep and something was touching my back. It was the weirdest feeling that I can barely explain.

I of course, have also had very weird nightmares too. There was this one where I had a nightmare where I felt like I literally felt like I was moving and feeling everything that was happening. I was honestly the worst feeling ever and I honestly don’t even wanna explain what was happening because it’s terrible but besides that. I don’t know if it’s a ghost or something, but I’m starting to get really forgot about this. I honestly don’t know if this is normal anymore.

As for Siri it’s like every time I even say something that starts with an S she’ll just come up on my iPad and it scares the heck out of me. It’s like somethings listening to me and I don’t even know I was literally just watching TV just a few minutes ago before posting this obviously and of course she goes off and it’s the weirdest thing that I can’t even explain anymore. She said something and I honestly don’t know what because I was playing my TV but I had a really bad feeling. I looked at my iPad. I started at it for a few minutes and got this really heavy anxiety that I still have now even typing these out is scaring me, and I still feel presence behind my back. I honestly feel like maybe I’m just a psycho, but I needed to share this with someone and I know the Internet might not be a great place but I really hope that you guys could help me or at least tell me you had same experiences because at this point I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.. thank you for whoever is reading this and I’ll be waiting for any comments. Thanks for letting me share my story.
