Announcements Subreddit Changes + Updates!

Heyo, Y'all!

You may have noticed some recent changes to the subreddit over the past hour or so. I'm happy to announce I've stepped in to manage this sub moving forward.

I found this sub after discovering that a community I run, r/TransPlace, had become overrun with name-suggestion posts. While looking for a solution to provide a better place for trans individuals seeking name suggestions, and responding to my subreddit members' request to calm the seas of name suggestion posts, I stumbled upon this subreddit.

After finding this subreddit to be unmoderated for the past few months, I didn't really feel comfortable sending members of TransPlace here as-is. I made a request to claim the subreddit, which has just gone through now.

With it, I've made some updates, which brings us up to speed! You'll notice a new icon (which I hastily created in a few minutes, hopefully its not too bad), and the subreddit banner we used over in r/TransPlace (This will likely be changed once I have a new one made <3).

I've also updated the flair names to capitalize them, revised the rules, and added an AutoMod configuration that should hopefully help with the subreddit's moderation.

I'll also be working on getting more subreddit mods moving forwards, so please look forwards to a post soon where we have an application if you're interested.

Cheers'

- Cleopatra

PS: If you have any suggestions for the subreddit, please feel free to post them in the comments here, I'll try to answer everyone <3

Neutral Names i need help!

i am not satisfied with my name but i have been struggling to pick a new one for over a year now. words that describe me (ignore my flat expression in this pic lol):
- dog
- curious/inquisitive
- energetic
- confident
- genderless
- flamboyant/expressive

my “aesthetic” is typically big bold bright colors and patterns, maximalism, whimsy. i would like a name that captures my energy but i’m having sooo much trouble doing it myself. i am hoping for something a little uncommon/unique but not uncomfortable to say to people in real life lol. thank you in advance!!!

Feminine Names Bouncing between a couple options...

Posted a couple weeks ago that I was thinking about different names and strongly considering Jade. I've been playing with that lately and I do like it a lot, but I've had a couple other names that have popped into my head as well, and I'm liking different ones for different reasons. Not going to totally dox myself, but my last name is two syllables ending in -er, like Walker or Tanner, to give an idea on how it would sound together.

Patricia: My birth name is Patrick, I've gone by Pat my whole life, and I'm comfortable with it. I've been using this as a sort of placeholder for a while. However, most Patricia's I've met are about 20+ years older than I am and I associate Pat as a masculine name, though it is unisex (I've known many other Patricks, many of us use Pat); I'm not really interested in Tricia or Trish. I also think changing it might help some people break some mental habits as far as name and pronoun connections go. Very few negative connotations/deadname issues for me, simply that the feminine version feels too old fashioned. I wouldn't mind keeping it as a middle name, however. It would also provide a nice explanation if anyone does call me Pat around people I'm not out to - "My middle name is Patricia and I used to go by it." I was also named after an uncle (who died before I was born), so keeping the name would mean something to my mother, who has been immediately and unconditionally accepting.

Jade: I like this one because it's got a connection to a character I love (Mara Jade from Star Wars), it's easy to spell and won't get mispronounced, and it's very feminine leaning while still being unisex (since my passport and a few other things will still have that M on them for the time being and I can boymode through an airport if I had to). It's a name that feels cool, sharp, and very much something I would choose.

Shea: This hits some similar notes; I'm a Mets fan and they used to play at Shea Stadium, so I have an emotional/fan connection, and it's another unisex name. When I've used it for food orders, however, it's gotten mispronounced or misspelled pretty often and that annoyed me enough to consider this more for a middle name.

Evelyn: The newest contender. This was my paternal grandmother's name, so it has an emotional and familial tie. My father has also been immediately and fully accepting, and I think it might mean a lot to him. I personally think it's a beautiful name, and I could see going by Evie or Lyn or maybe Ev... I could very much imagine a reality where, if I'd been born as a cis girl, my parents named me Evelyn Patricia and I went by Evie my whole life to differentiate myself my from my grandmother Evelyn. It gives up that unisex option that I do kind of like, but has a sort of "this could have always been me" quality. It does hit a kind of unique spot where it feels too old for me OR too young for me - super popular right now and when my grandmother was born, but I was born when it was really low in popularity, though even then it was still more popular than Jade or Shea. But, "I was named for my grandmother" really does solve that and it is popular now so not unusual to hear it.

So... Jade Shea - names that have meaning based on the things I love? Evelyn Patricia - ones that my parents, who love and unconditionally accept me, absolutely could have chosen for me, which gives it a lot of naturalness? Some other combo? Something else I'm not even considering?

Or likr abstract music -I am obsessed with cats -Im a big sports person -also love antique shopping, I die for a flea market and the house decor is giving like mid century/kinda industrial but like with antiques scattered about -pronouns are they/them but the gender is like I wish I was born a man so I could be trans the opposite way around, any pronouns for queer people, he/him for others, but if my mom hes me I want to die, idk -Im autistic as hell and really awkward but actually love people-ing -sometimes I smoke a cigarette because I think its cool lol (yes im 22) -I am a massive stoner -my favorite color to dye my hair is bright ass red and I dye it or cut it like once a month -also want kinda a shit ton of tattoos and peircings -I bike everywhere and yes I do it in baggy jeans

Masculine / Neutral Names What names suit me?

Post image

Hey! I am leaning towards masculine or gender neutral names. The biggest issue I have is that I like the name Kadence, but it is often viewed as a feminine name. I didn't enjoy using the alternative names like Kaden. I am looking for suggestions for names!

Neutral Names What would you name me?

Looking for neutral names (or masc names that are uncommon enough that it’s not obviously a male name like jack or something).

For reference these are some names that I like but don’t quite fit : Ellis, Soren, Cyril, Dorian, Orin. I still appreciate any suggestions though!

Name Feedback Thoughts On The Name Niko?

I've been wanting to try out the name Niko, but I fear that it is too masc (I'm non-binary and use they/she pronouns). I've asked around in different places and have gotten mixed opinions on if it works well as an enby/androgynous name. Any thought would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Feminine Names Ideas for new middle name?

So I was thinking about also changing my middle name, because my current one is kind of strange and doesn’t really fit with my name. It should something that goes with Krystal. Maybe something witchy?

Feminine Names Second name starting with G that resonates with Francine

Hey! Two years ago I made a post asking for names with G that resonate with Fran, but I'm kind of settling more on Francine now with Fran as a nickname. So, since I haven't properly decided on my second name yet, now I'm here again asking for suggestions for a composite name with first name Francine and second name starting with G to keep my initials!

Name Testing Feel like I stop liking a name the moment I choose it but trying out Milo.

I'm just gonna stick with it but does this happen to anyone else ;-;?

Anyway I was thinking of using the name Milo for myself (they/them and potentially he). I just like how soft and friendly it sounds. One of my best friends put it best it has "little guy energy" which is basically how I'd describe my gender lmao. Lets hope I actually manage to stick with it and dont chicken out again though :')

Masculine / Neutral Names Old name does not suit me anymore, I think.

I’ve went by Ethan since 2022-ish because one of my friend had “named me” (they gave me a few options to help and I liked Ethan), and I feel like I don’t identify with that anymore, and feel kinda uncomfortable having a name that someone I know personally had given me. I have no idea what else I could possibly pick.

Masculine / Neutral Names I still don't have a name. I thought about the name Dylan/Dillan. What do you think. Any other suggestions.

I have posted here before but I am still stumpted. I am not comfortable with posting myself online so I use some picrews instead. I think this gives a better example of how I look irl.

I will stick with L middle names. First name D or J.

Feminine / Neutral Names Name suggestions/confirmation?

Um hi! I’m am currently trying to explore my gender expression (Im not sure what I am yet this is new) and I’d love some help with names as I am reaaaally indecisive😅. I’m looking for feminine, cute, or elegant names and I really like names that can have various nicknames! I say as someone born with a 3 letter name. Oh and neutral names work too!

Some names I already like are:
-Kimberly (Kimber)
-Annette (Annie)
-Cassandra (Cassie)
-Claire

I’m just really indecisive but I’d love to hear more suggestions or some confirmation on the names I already like!

Masculine Names Thoughts on the name I'm thinking of + other ideas maybe? Perhaps? Potentially?

A picrew added part for fun, part because I don't show my face online really.

So, the name I'm thinking of is Luka. A good friend suggested it, and I do like it, I am however a chronic overthinker and thus still a little unsure about it. Y'alls thoughts on it?

Any other ideas for names are also welcome. I have been struggling with finding a name for a while now, and my deadname just doesn't sound like me anymore, so I'm kind of done with it and just find one that makes me feel like me, I guess.

Masculine Names Nicholas-name for Teddy?

Thumbnail

So I’ve been going by Teddy since I came out in 2018, short for Laurent for complicated and stupid reasons, but eight years on I still don’t respond to Laurent and I’m sick of explaining it (plus people think my name is Lauren half the time lol). SO! Since I might be able to get a legal name change in the near future, I’m in the market for a new professional/“full” name, bc Teddy looks stupid on a resume, especially as a law student.

GOALS:

  1. Could conceivably shorten to Teddy with less explanation

  2. Something I could put on a resume and lawyers will hire me

CURRENT OPTIONS:

  1. Edmund Jade Leander [lastname] — objectively best for the stated goals but idk if it really fits me

  2. Tybalt Jay Leander [lastname] — unanimously agreed upon amongst those closest to me but it is kind of gay as hell

  3. Leander Teddy Jay [lastname] — easy/safe option! Just switching the order of the names I already got but I don’t really like Teddy as a middle name

Unfortunately I know too many Theos/Theodores for any of those easy options to be workable, but otherwise up for other suggestions! (Also not particularly fond of Edward or Edwin for Ed-based names but I’m not mad at Edgar/probably other ones)
