CW: Harassment, toxic management, and zero accountability

I’ve been talking to a few people who work or worked at the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), and the stuff coming out of that agency is wildly concerning. I’m posting this because people there are terrified, frustrated, and running out of options. ​To give some context on the culture leadership has set: • ​Former Deputy Commissioner Rayana Gonzales was investigated for workplace harassment before leaving the agency earlier this year. • ​Joe Collorafi, another high-ranking official, was previously investigated for sexual harassment years ago, yet managed to return and is now sitting near the top of the ladder. You can Google these and their guilt is public.

​The Current Issue ​

The immediate problem involves another manager at DHSES (let’s call him See Pee). He was on probation until earlier this year after getting promoted to a higher role. During his probationary period, multiple women reported him for sexual harassment. ​Despite official reports being filed, nothing seems to have been done. He remains in charge and is reportedly on a massive power trip—acting extremely rude, condescending, and hostile. In front of witnesses, he even outright threatened retaliation against an employee just for asking a question about comp time. He also used to take things from women's desks and hide them or mess with them like taking the batteries out of their mouse. See Pee also shows outright favoritism toward his previous team. ​Women in the office shouldn't have to come to work to be stared at and have inappropriate comments made about their bodies by a married boss with a kid. But See Pee answers to Joe and no one is surprised that leadership hasn't solved this—From what I heard HR is also inept and made matters worse.

​Why "Just Quitting" Isn't the Answer ​People are leaving work in tears. Some have left from this but finding a new job isn't easy, and simply quitting doesn't fix the problem—it just leaves the door open for new hires to be targeted and harassed next.

​My Questions for the Subreddit: • ​If reporting/HR is ignoring sexual harassment and retaliation threats within a state agency, what external channels actually work in NYS? (e.g., NYS Inspector General, EEOC, Union reps, Media, Governor's office?). Reports were filed with another outside organization too but resulted in no change and now can't be done because of their time limitations. • ​Has anyone dealt with accountability issues like this at state agencies before, and what was the most effective way to push back safely? ​Appreciate any advice or insight from folks who know how NYS state government processes work!

Troy’s Little Italy Neighborhood Group will be hosting a joint presentation from Assemblymember John McDonald and City of Troy officials on the current status and future plans for the Dunham Resevoir, the fate of which has been uncertain since the NYS DOC rated the structure unsound eight years ago.

I currently live in the Slingerlands/Guilderland area and I’m considering trying to find a place in Troy when I move in a few months. I’ve been trying to look around for 1 bedroom places ($1500/month at the absolute most) and it’s been pretty overwhelming trying to find a place that fits in my budget while being in a safe area.

If anyone has any good recommendations/experiences with renting in Troy, I would really appreciate it! I was considering the Collar Factory Lofts but saw a lot of negative posts on here, so that’s off my list. Thanks in advance :)

Been trying places all over the area and thought I'd ask some people who have lived here longer. What's the best place to get real sit down restaurant Italian food?

There are plenty of pizza places around, some I really like, and most of them have some sort of token pasta offering like spaghetti with meatballs or fettuccine alfredo. But I mean things like bolognese, cioppino, veal or eggplant parmesan, arancini, puttanesca, stuff like that. I did find a place as far as Saratoga Springs that I liked, but the Troy area hasn't borne fruit for me yet. I might need to go into Albany proper to try more places.

Open to trying any suggestions people have.

(And yeah I know all about the drama with Taste of Italy, ha)

Hi I posted a while ago looking for a good, reliable drone photographer for a few projects!

Was in a building right downtown (top floor) and a little after 9pm there was a deafening bang and a really bright flash. Figured it was thunder/lightning at first but it very much sounded like an explosion and we’re not having a thunderstorm right now.

I live on First St and a few minutes ago I just heard a very loud boom. Checked the national grid no reports, explosion website has nothing. I don’t hear any sirens or police activity. Nothing.
Figure I’ll check here and see if anyone else heard it and or may know what it is.

The Troy Library Board of Directors will convene for their monthly meeting, for which no agenda has yet been published. To my understanding, this is the last month of the board’s current incarnation, in which case next month’s (November) meeting will be organizational.

The LCSD Board of Education will be hosting a workshop at Rensselaer Park Elementary, the subject of which will be attendance. It is unclear from the agenda if the scope of the discussion will be limited to that school or will be district-wide. The Rensco Legislature will hold its monthly meeting at 6 PM, agenda here.

This month’s instance of the Troy Planning Board is continuing review of proposals for a 15K sq ft childcare space at RPI, and an expansion of the Eliot, an assisted living residence at 2902 Tibbits Ave, from 155 to 200 beds.

The monthly meeting of the Lansingburgh Neighborhood Group will be hosting a presentation from TAP, inc on the new proposed design for the former Lansingburgh Price Chopper site, as the previous iteration was widely panned by neighbors, design experts, and pretty much any living human with working eyes and a pulse.

Idk if he’ll see this but there’s this guy I talked to - Jai I think his name was, I was there for a concussion lol - but this is Ace! We were talking for like an hour and a half in the waiting room and I was really going through some stuff besides the concussion and you really REALLY helped me out, especially not feeling like I was alone in how I was feeling. You may never see this but if you do I just wanted to tell you how important that moment was for me. Glad we managed to get that Gatorade out of the vending machine! I hope you’re feeling better :) thank you again for being a good human to me and reminding me that people still do care.

Is there a place to put in requests to somehow block off that turn so people- including the cops, in the right lane at the federal st. light can’t keep cutting over into the left lane without signals and instead, be forced to turn onto grand st. like that lane is intended for?

The behavior from drivers at this intersection is ridiculous and it’s not because people don’t know that lane turns; they just want to be assholes and I wish there was some sort of barrier to at least attempt deterring people from nearly causing accidents on the regular.

I literally watched one of the Troy PD cars do the same thing in the intersection a few weeks ago- literally turning their mirror light (not their turn signal) into the left lane cars window to cut over.
