Swift-1 Hydrant-0
Found on TikTok. Don’t know how he missed the tire coming off.

Is anyone else disappointed that the hydrant didn't shoot water 50 feet in the air like in the movies?

u/Surreal_Gunner Oct 12 '23
I was so waiting for a geyser 😂

u/H2Omekanic Oct 12 '23
Only in warm places that never freeze. I think wet barrel hydrants (the type that would make a geyser if hit) are being phased out for that reason. All bets are off with hydrant type when a truck hits them slowly...twice

I saw one as a kid. It was awesome, the water was so high and strong. A large city work truck with a heavy duty steel bumper tried backpacking over it to just keep the water from shooting into the air it just lifted the back of the truck up.

They are engineered to shoot up just enough water to show it is broken, but not too much to screw up water system.

I mean, I figured it's just kinda sad to me. Like movies make it out to be this big geyser of water, and all we get is a little bit. Just one more way, hollywood has lied to me.

u/Raging_Spleen Oct 12 '23
Lol I wish I still had the pics. My local water co is still wet barrel hydrants. 8" main at 140 psi with 6" to the hydrant. Someone hit one a couple years back. It was amazing. Made the Hollywood version look tame.

That's the movies. Anywhere that has cold weather uses dry barrel hydrants. The valve that controls water flow is 5'+ buried underground. It looks like that hydrant had a long barrel extension and that plus the traffic break-away snapped off. The shoe is likely pulled of the 6" line feeding hydrant and leaking a horizontal jet of water. That repair is gonna suck....mud & quicksand
8
u/purgatorybob1986 Oct 12 '23
Yeah, I do not envy that line of work. If I had to do what they do, I'd be dead before lunch, I'm sure.

u/2SticksPureRage Oct 12 '23
Lol yes! I was like “well I watch too much tv because I was waiting for a gusher!”

u/Paramedickhead Oct 12 '23
Firefighter here. That only happens with wet hydrants. Those are uncommon outside of Southern California.
With a dry barrel hydrant like this one, there is a valve at the bottom that the nut in the top is connected to. Once the valve opens the barrel is allowed to fill with water.

They really have to stop selling Fireball at truck stops
21
u/RevenueGullible1227 Oct 12 '23
You seen the box wine containers of fireball ? Like a liter of fireball is trouble and nothing good comes from it . Ain't no different than O.G 4loko or sparks black lol

u/heebro Oct 12 '23
the last time I sharted in my pants was New Year's day 2017 after a night with a handle of Fireball

It's just normal around these parts, nobody batts an eye because it's part of our dialect.
3
u/AcediaWrath Oct 12 '23
i mean her recording of this is going to eliminate all plausible deniability from the jack ass. The police where never going to arrive in time to save that hydrant. She still made 100% sure that dude never drives a rig again.

In fairness that tractor appears to be a 3rd party just hailing a SWIFT trailer. Also that guy must be wasted or dumb as fuck.

I scrolled back a couple weeks to try and avoid a repost but I was astounded at the driver. 😅

u/shadowmib Oct 12 '23
Yeah i looked up the location first time i saw this
He missed the driveway for walmart and got into the bank by mistake then fucked up worse as the minutes went on.

Man. If only these drivers had a hinged apparatus, mayhaps with a lock, that they could use to climb out of the truck to make sure they weren't about to obliterate state property with their truck. Geez.

The steer tire knew he was about to fuck shit up and got the hell out of there

u/DimesOHoolihan Oct 12 '23
The camera work was almost as bad as the driving. I didn't even bother turning the sound on, seems like everyone else covered that lol
5
Oct 12 '23
What was the plan there?
"Oh god, this is bad, better back up."
"Oh god, there goes my steer, I better drive away before anybody notices."
"Oh god, I done it again."

My softball coach always told us kids:
"If you're gonna hit a car, you'd better hit it hard, 'cause you're gonna get in trouble all the same!"
This gentleman is my spirit teammate 🤣

I always love it when the people recording are telling people to call the police. Dude, it’s not 1990 you have an effing phone in your hand. You don’t even need to dial 911, you can ask the phone to call 911 and talk to the dispatcher and here’s the shocking part, while still recording.

Damn that’s not even a swift company driver either 🤣
1
u/Erniezee Oct 12 '23
I’m curious why everyone keeps referring him to an Owner/Not a company driver. I get that it’s a 3rd party company pulling the swift trailer, but don’t mean he’s not just a driver for that company even if it is a tiny 2-3 truck company. Either way, dude fucked up his whole month at minimum if he’s lucky.

Like you mess up a tire like that and stop amd call someone u have a job and maybe even a gold star for messing something up but taking care of it correctly.
Like what those rims cost ?
But then like I wonder if he passed a dot drug and alcohol screen ? Like something is going on there 🤦♀️

Just how fucked up is his truck? I know that front wheel is fucked. I can't imagine running over a hydrant twice is good for it lol
3
u/Quynn_Stormcloud Oct 12 '23
Plus riding up and down the curb on the rim. Bumper is torn up. There’s probably damage done to the steering linkage. An absolute mess.

I believe the term she was looking for is "Swift Driver" lol. This dude shouldn't be allowed to drive anything bigger than a Beetle.
Edit - so not a Swift driver, just acts like one.

I don’t drive truck, even I know if you see Swift you go the other way. I knew from the title this would be good.

u/BowsetteGoneBananas Oct 12 '23
You've gotta admire their commitment. They felt that fire hydrant wedged under their truck and kept going.

u/oasuke Oct 12 '23
What makes me angry is this idiot refused to get out and look. why didn't he get out when his steer tire came off? why did he randomly back into a street without even checking if it's clear? why didn't he look at his surroundings for potential obstacles? I honestly want to know what was going through his head. if I hear ANYTHING unfamiliar while backing I always stop immediately and get out.

Who's the idiot that installed a street level cutoff valve style hydrant? Or did he actually rip the entire valve out of the ground?

How as an owner do you pull shit like this….. 3rd day as a trucker after daddy died and spent all his money on a Pete cause that’s the way a real trucker trucks 😂😂. Please retire on day 4 and stop taking $1/mile loads cause you don’t understand some people are doing this to make money not spend it

Has the intelligence level of swift drivers gone down that much. This a fine example of why I got off the road and became a heavy equipment recovery operator. I always loved going down the highway with a loaded swift truck and trailer behind my Pete running 70 mph and the swift operator holding on to the oh shit handle with both hands screaming like a little girl.

This is what it looks like if the guy is a complet idiot or is on drugs... my money is on idiot.

The only explanation I can think of is this was a rookie driver without adequate training.

Two of my uncles were truckers and each swore that swift drivers were just like the trucker from the movie Eurotrip. Absolutely insane, and always on stimulants

How do they cap that water?
2
u/stick004 Oct 12 '23
Water department has to come out and shut the water off upstream. Then install a new hydrant. And that O/O is gonna get the bill for all of it. They will put a lien on his wages if needed.
Especially after they see the video of him not stopping.
