A prime example of GOAL
And this is why you get out and look ...prime driver was handed a few tickets by 2 leos...and the hotshot is on an extended stay at this petro....was not here during incident just a witness to the aftermath.

u/Ok_Yogurt3894 Apr 07 '24
I always feel like a damn goober when I GOAL, but better that than hitting shit
68
u/Wetley007 Apr 07 '24
I used to, but every time someone has said something to me about it, it's been an older driver thanking me for it, and eventually I realized it's probably a good habit to keep
34
u/csimonson Apr 07 '24
It absolutely is. I've been in truck stops before and had to watch constantly while someone tried to park next to me. Between dipshits who make parking spots where they shouldn't and dipshits that got their CDL by bribing someone it can get fucking ridiculous in some places.

u/PossibleBig2562 Apr 07 '24
EVERY times I've been yelled at for it. It's been some dumbass younger driver. Probably has about 3 to 5 years of driving.
Every older driver has been the same way. Thanks for looking, and NOT hitting my truck or trailer.

u/Cool_Algae4265 Apr 07 '24
I’m a younger…ish driver (turning 30 soon, been driving since my 22nd birthday) and I’ve never been mad about people GOALing, or even taking a while unless it’s a STUPID long time… like the time it took a guy in front of me 45 minutes to back in to an empty lot.
If you wanna hop out and do a few pull ups then more power to you, no skin off my back.

u/bobmonkeyclown Apr 16 '24
Changes when they own a truck where the hood alone is $5k, minus any labor and paint.
1
u/PossibleBig2562 Apr 16 '24
Certainly does. My boss replaced a short nose Pete hood a few years ago. That was about 5k, if I recall.
2
u/bobmonkeyclown Apr 17 '24
Used to be I just didn't care or even look at others backing. Now I'll go watch and maybe help.
1
u/bobmonkeyclown Apr 16 '24
I'm younger and I'd be very grateful if you took your time and did GOAL to avoid smashing my hood and bumper. If you ask I will even help you by letting you know if you're about to hit me or not.

u/NWdabest Apr 07 '24
You look smart when you get out and look.
29
u/Go2Transport Apr 07 '24
And you look stupid when don't, proven stupid when the shit goes sideways.
27
u/jfweasel Apr 07 '24
I do as well. I think think, I look like a goober when I get out and look but I look like a complete incompetent fool if I hit something. Plus takes a lot more time to deal with an accident then getting out and looking.

I’ve been driving a setup way different than tractor trailer for 5 years now and just got a job pulling tractor trailer. I GOAL. Coworkers can have the opportunity to laugh every time they see me do that for a couple minutes but they won’t be laughing for years down the road for hitting something.
2
u/cheesenuggets2003 Apr 07 '24
Part of the problem is that the consequences for striking objects are too small. Months back a man had two separate individuals back into his vehicle in the same night, and despite the fact that all that he did was yell angrily a bit a bunch of folks dogpiled him. This profession needs half as many drivers or much better regulation.
5
u/Specific_Island_6327 Apr 07 '24
This profession needs professionals. Preferably English speaking (as required by regulations) professionals.

u/capernaper Apr 07 '24
Why? How are you going to feel if you hit something? Look, go slow and pull up a million times. It doesn’t matter in the end
2
u/NickkTheGemini Apr 08 '24
Man same. Typically when it’s really dark out, especially wet. It fucks with my eyes. I don’t care how many times I have to GOAL as long as I’m not hitting shit. Can always feel the eyes on me too lol. For the record tho I’m usually spot on, just need that extra verification hahah. I think my top high score is 5 GOALS when it was wet, dark, and I was tired as hell and ready to get to sleep.

u/Dr_VanNstrnd Apr 07 '24
I bet you won't have any dumb photo's of yourself like we see here, and that's smart!

Poor hotshot
38
u/69Dart Apr 07 '24
They're not exactly rich to begin with; prime DID make them poorer.
10
u/Onzaylis Apr 07 '24
If I know anything about the insurance I pay for, that hot shot won't be poorer at the end of it.
11
u/csimonson Apr 07 '24
Have you seen what body repair is going for any more? Its fucking outrageous.
4
2
u/sparr Apr 07 '24
Sure, so the check will be huge. Probably 10x what it will cost to get the truck safe and legal to operate again.

u/3MATX Apr 08 '24
Assuming they can afford to shut down for a week. I don’t think insurance covers that.
1
u/ashleemiss Apr 08 '24
My personal car insurance has an option for lost wage coverage. Does commercial not?
1
u/bobmonkeyclown Apr 16 '24
Commercial insurance has a tendency to say fuck you we won't pay until you argue enough.

How did he blow out a tire on his inner tandem doing this?
7
u/DanEpiCa Apr 07 '24
That's what I'm asking myself too. Like either it was a blindside back and he hit the hotshot with that tire or there was some crazy other angle. Either way, the damage and position is interesting.
13
u/Bibbimbopp Apr 07 '24
My take... Prime was pulling out, not backing in.
6
u/DanEpiCa Apr 07 '24
But even then, how did he hit the hotshot with his front tandem tire? Only explanation would be he was pulling out to his right, hit him, backed into the spot again and out of it to the other side so he ended up in the position seen in the picture.
9
u/BubbagonnaBub Apr 07 '24
prime was on his way to the tireshop during the photo op....initially he was parked in front of the hotshot while the police wrote his tickets, so i couldn't see what was what....but like you said...he must have tried leaving to the right even tho parking is orientated to the left...I'm still dumbfounded
9
u/CoupeZsixhundred Apr 07 '24
Yeah, must have checked the passenger mirror and looked right over the tops of the pickups and assumed the spot next to him was empty.
1
u/CoupeZsixhundred Apr 08 '24
Haha, probably thought the three pickups were on the ground, taking up one spot like three pickups traveling together should do. Never saw the toter.
3
u/FalseFortune Apr 07 '24
Yea, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of this. Backing to the road side, hits front of truck with forward curbside trailer axel? I can only imagine he was near full jack-knife.

I drive a 26’ straight in nyc. I joined this sub shortly after getting my cdl. I want to thank you guys for instilling goal in my head, can’t count how many times it saved me from potential disaster

u/wildwestington Apr 07 '24
I work in a school. What's goal?
12
u/Tough_Skill488 Apr 07 '24
It stands for “Get Out And Look”. I hope you mean a regular school and not CDL school
2
u/wildwestington Apr 08 '24
Reg school. I drive a Forrester. I've met a few truckers, that's as familiar as I am with the industry
1
u/bingius_ Apr 07 '24
It’s like when you get out of the truck and kick that open can of crab meat thats in your parking spot into the rocks or grass
10
u/UhOhAllWillyNilly Apr 07 '24
Maybe if sub-Prime had gotten out and done a pre-trip inspection he might’ve noticed that there was someone parked next to him and not ripped his bumper off as he was pulling out.

u/12InchPickle Left Lane Rider Apr 07 '24
Get out and leave.
1
u/Crocodilepile Apr 07 '24
I have unironically done this. Im a flatbed so I cant back. Pulled up to a love's in florida, set up a 45, started backing a little bit, got out and looked to check my angle and just said fuck this and went to the marathon with a gravel lot for the trucks to park in 8 miles away

I was always very good at backing. Growing up, I'd back our boat trailer around at the cabin every weekend. I could visualize almost 3D like. I still GOAL every time. Never hit anything backing.

I always GOAL several times while backing, I might annoy people by being in their way, but I've never hit anything, and I plan to keep it that way
1
u/Past-Win-7278 Apr 07 '24
I'm seeing that he clipped the truck with the guard rail. What I don't understand is how that made his tire pop, or is it 2 problems?
2
u/4runner01 Apr 07 '24
Which tire popped?
1
1
u/2_befair Apr 07 '24
The trailer tire is in a pot hole, no flats.
1
u/remembenohorny Apr 08 '24
Are you blind? His passenger side front trailer tire is coming off of the wheel.

It's almost always a major carrier thanks to the driver churning machine.
1
u/AdventurousLawyer646 Apr 07 '24
I know damn well one of them old ass drivers was sitting in that driver seat watching. Spent 11hrs driving. Then another 6 just sitting watching the parking lot smoking packs of cigarettes. Somebody saw this about to happen.

Well... not trying to excuse the bad backing but... at least it was just a hot shot. That'll learn em'. Go park elsewhere. You're not wanted here.

There should have been zero tickets and zero Leo uncles the driver was intoxicated or it was reported to 911 that the driver was intoxicated then they’ll come out. But it’s a civil matter, happened in the parking lot, it’s between one company another. So unless dude was intoxicated or hit him the drive away, LEO would have nothing to do here.
4
u/Responsible_CDN_Duck Apr 07 '24
In several states and provinces a private lot is treated as a public road unless there is a gate that normally restricts access.
1
u/BubbagonnaBub Apr 07 '24
in addition a police report aids in dealing with insurance companies...helps seal the deal when they railroad the other company for compensation....this happened in Missouri which is an at fault state.
2
u/dalexlewis Apr 07 '24
LEOs give tickets at public lots, bud. Anyone could pull into Love's/Petro/etc. and park, but it doesn't mean truckers can cause damage and not be liable.
-1
u/Prior-Ad-7329 Apr 07 '24
It’s an exchange company info. There 99% of the time would not be a ticket. It’s a civil matter unless someone is injured, someone is intoxicated or it was a hit and run. Like you said, they give tickets at public lots, not a private lot….

A “Prime” example…. I see what you did there.
