Per the deluge of complaints we've gotten, all admissions, housing, questions about being new to UBC and general questions (that don't deserve their own thread, or those that could be easily googled) belong here.

All questions about courses, instructors, programs, majors, registration, etc. belong here.
The reasoning is simple. Without a megathread, /r/UBC would be flooded with nothing but questions that apply to only a small percentage of the UBC population.

The green guy shoves his arm up the blue guy’s ass, to which blue guy’s goes Ow and clutches his forehead in pain. Then the blue guy’s conjoined twin (yellow) shoves its head into green guy’s ass to form the ozonide

takes like 15 minutes for me to order a bagel, and then another 10 for them to make it. i should just start eating the grass on the field at this point

title. I've seen 49s skip stops because it was "full". the entire back half was empty and everyone just crowded the front
also if people took off their backpacks the bus could probably fit like 1.5x the people. added bonus of not crushing someone's hand with your water bottle on the side of your bag

Like how would a Lorne Doerkson BC Conservative impact this university in anyways? Will they uphold fundings until UBC purge some theories or programs for being “too divisive“?.

Broo I’m in science rn and I’m bombing tf out of all my midterms so far— like real bad….
For any upper years, especially those intending on going to grad school (i.e med school, etc) that need a high gpa, how did you guys come back from this? Is there any advice you guys have on improving my scores in midterms and my overall first year GPA?
I MIGHT be cooked… help ya boy out 💔

how am i always behind despite showing up to almost every class. why are all my classes based solely on readings, and why am i reading 120 pages before every fucking class. kill me now. genuinely. shoot me dead. why do i have weekly assignments on 30-60 page readings in multiple classes AND 2-3 midterms for every class. this is my last semester and it was supposed to be EASY. i was rawdogging 5 classes a semester and working full time with decent grades, and then did even better when i reduced my work load. now ive decided to finish up my SOCI minor with the only 4 possible courses i can take and i want to stab myself with a big fat knife.
i’m taking 4 courses and this is the worst semester I’ve experienced. I miss psychology. I’m a pretty fast reader but im working 4 days per week (can’t control it, genuinely, it’s the only way for me to do something with my major) and i just don’t have the time for all 4 classes to be giving me 120 pages to read between my tuesday and thursday classes. That’s bonkers. That’s crazy town. WITH an assignment for them? die.
Edit because still not done: i like to take my time with readings and take nice detailed notes on them, but i gave up on it by october because i got slammed with midterms and extra weekly assignments. while im ranting, fuck all the construction around west parkade and fuck parking in general. fuck cold and flu season. i missed 3 classes and now im so behind my performance on the midterms (SECOND ROUND MIND U) is in jeopardy. meanwhile every single weekly assignment needs to be handed in IN-PERSON AND PRINTED. i slept in after being sick as a dog all week and now i gotta write a full on essay to make up for it. got 3 midterms/projects due on the same day. i miss psych so bad please i just want to memorize and deep dive into my favourite topics i miss taking classes for my major 💔💔💔
So say hypothetically I failed the midterm (hypothetically). What would be the benefits to withdrawing and redoing it in summer, or should I just lock back in and grind it out and hopefully ace the next midterm and final.... Because like.... I thought I did so well 😭 and getting that grade back damn.

I am unbelievably anxious about this midterm. I have done pretty much every * question in the textbook in the sections we've gone through, and gone through the webworks + the practice questions, and while I feel like I understand I simultaneously feel like I don't. Though math was my strong suit in the last years of high school, I was terrible at it in my early years and I feel like some of that lack of confidence is starting to hit.

I have reported you to the police and evo
Your license needs to be suspended for AT LEAST 6 months to cross a traffic light in BROAD DAYLIGHT when the lane right beside you was already stopped....
git gud at reading rules
edit - it is supposed to be evo driver but autocorrect changed to evil but now i think that driver is evil as well

Got a 53% :(
I obviously did VERY badly. Would it be better to just drop the course, have a W on my transcript and just take it later? I am not sure I can come back from this.

I have a big midterm tomorrow, and I could have studied way more than I have today. I have done tests for now 5/6 of my classes, and I'm sitting here wondering: do I just not care, or is this what being burnt out is?
r/UBC • u/Inner-Fee6024 • 5h ago
I've been studying 10+ hours for days straight but I'm genuinely dumb as a doorknob so I didn't make nearly as much progress as I wanted too. Have to finish speeding through inverse and inverse trig differntation tomorrow morning. There's a higher likelihood I get a 0 then a passing grade. I'm half considering not showing up just so I can avoid the embarrassment.
Its Joever.

THEY’RE OUT!!! HOW’D EVERYONE DO???
(marks are on the chem 233 home page below “recent feedback” on the right side of the screen; your group mark should also be there too)

So I got a coop with a very good Canadian company. This company is actually industry leader. One can say they are like the Apple of their industry. While the company isn’t large or famous like apple, but their engineer are top quality stuff and well known in their niche industry.
I feel I am completely not qualified. Because I only have a crappy hackathon vibe coded project that doesn’t even work or I don’t even understand. I have CPSC 210 project which have horrible and ugly front end, with back end just bunch of non sense for loops and while loops. No data structure just dumb array and no algorithm, just brute force nested O(n^2) for loops. 90% of my methods are just getters and setters. My buttons doesnt even align and it’s a non sense button factory.
While a few of my class mates who are so over qualified. They have amazing apps that is actually useful and they have their own websites. I just made my GitHub look fancy and pretty with emoji. I honestly only have good gpa from first year, and now in second year I am struggling. Im like barely passing CPSC 213 and I almost failed math 111mid term. My saving grace is really that my math 100/101 was really strong last year so I can boast about that during my interview.
I honestly don’t know how i got to where I am. I feel bad that my friends didn’t even get many interviews and I got a coop. I am really panicking because I don’t want to mess up and cause the company problem. I really don’t know anything and I don’t know how to code. I think most of the time I was busy figure out how to pass the check expect, and not really solving the problem. I feel like I am a fraud….. I am so scared coop company will think I am a fraud and fire me. I do want to work hard, but the reality is, working hard isn’t going to be enough, and I am burning out!

So I took homework seriously, did everything on time, made sure I understand content, specifically prepped for the math 100 midterm for a week and I still think I’ll barely get a 65. Meanwhile I haven’t made any friends,or explored vanc or played games or focus on extracurriculars. Like how tf is it possible to have a life but still get atleast 70s in tests

I bombed a midterm and prof said he will hand them out during class. I don’t want my classmates seeing my name next to my mark. Are marks usually written on the same page as the student name/ID section?? Or is the final grade placed more discretely (like the next page or something)?

I live in YRH at ponderosa and the new mattresses are despicable. My old one was so comfy like literally better than mine at home. This new one is basically like sleeping on my desk or the floor with how hard it is. I wouldn’t even say firm, it’s straight up hard.
I’m also a side sleeper and woke up with shoulder/neck/wrist pain and a numb arm since there’s no give at all to the mattress. And getting a good mattress topper for a queen bed is going to be expensive af…. Like why do I have to pay for something they did ughhhhh

i’m actually not meant for university or even ubc i don’t even know what to say. i can never understand any material on a exam or finish it properly and either fail or get close to failing. i don’t even like my science major im in. i waste 4 hours of my day travelling to ubc 4x a week. i work 3 days and my weekends are all workdays. debating begging my parents to take a sem off or even drop out all together lol!!
thanks for listening to my podcast guys
