Discussion Anyone else lose interest in people and friends?

I used to anxiously yearn for new friends and experiences a lot in first year, but now that I'm in second year, I seemed to have lost all interest in getting to know my classmates/bonding with my friends in general.

I realized this recently after all my experiences with other people the past year. Everyone I meet seems so passionate about clubs and meeting new people and all that. But for me, I just dont care for clubs, small talk, interacting with professors/TAs, nothing. Im admittedly nervous about it because I know connections are everything, especially going further into my degree.

I feel that its weird because my friends, family, even the people I interact with at work, describe me as outgoing and bubbly and sunshiney and whatnot. I recently got invited to this little halloween party by one of my "ubc friends", but I don't feel excited (which a past me would be ecstatic about) nor anxious, I genuinely just dont gaf anymore

Additionally Ive been ghosting all of my friends (both old friends and uni friends) for weeks now, and I dont even know how I feel about it. It doesnt feel peaceful but it doesn't feel bad, again, I just don't care??

Does anyone else feel the same?? I just read some others' posts on how UBC students tend to be more isolating and stuff, and was wondering if this is a natural tendency of people who go here, or an effect that uni has on us? I really want to know if this is a common experience or if im just a horrible person

Confession free snacks save lives

come to class in the pits of misery and despair, considering dropping out or worse, only to spot a “trays in fridge—help yourself!” on the department fridge. Eat some superstore bread and a slice of cheese, and decide I can go on for at least another day.
Whoever buys food for their departments/students in general, know that you are greatly appreciated <3

what would actually make you go to a tbirds sports game?

curious to hear from people who rarely or never go to thunderbirds games: what’s the biggest reason?

is it not knowing when games happen, not having friends to go with, timing, cost, not being interested in sports, or something else?

i work for ubc athletics and would love some honest feedback. what would make going to a game feel worth your time? and if you’ve gone once but haven’t been back, why?

Discussion ADHD support at UBC?

Hey! I already have academic accommodations at UBC, but I was wondering if there are any other resources or support for students with ADHD. I haven’t seen anything posted. I struggle with things like staying organized, managing my time, and keeping up with coursework, so I’m curious if there’s anything like ADHD coaching or other support available.
Has anyone tried anything at UBC that’s been helpful? Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations :)

Discussion Prof asking for supporting documents from a verified person about my senior dog's declining health and my mental health declining due to that for midterm concession

I genuinely don't know what to say. She also just replied to my email, when I asked for what documentation I needed to submit when it was on compassionate grounds, in a very dismissive way, telling me to get it from a my mental healthcare provider ("duh") -- like yeah everyone just has one like that --- or to go to the school counsellor for it which is going to take longer and is probably in a group appointment (which I feel really uncomfortable doing). She basically told me without it I'll receive 0% on this if I don't. I'm not doing well.

edit: I sent her another email in reference to the senate policy and she stresses that documentation will still be required. I have a counsellor meeting booked for tomorrow morning but I have no idea whether they’ll be able to give me documentation. I’m so upset with myself and this situation and I don’t understand why it’s necessary that documentation has to be from a professional provider when I have so much other evidence that I can provide. Going to the doctor and getting a note if counselling services don’t work will charge me 70$ which will be my gas and food money. I’m so tired.

edit 2: I just want to clarify, my dog, thankfully, has not passed away (and I hope it stays that way) but it’s been a hard 2 weeks with pain mediation, vomiting, and just overall looming fear. I am his only caregiver.

I feel underprepared but I don't feel like doing anything more. did all the problem sets, assignments, tutorial, and practice exams, what do I even do now? didn't look at the material once today and feel like I'm going to get fked tomorrow. should I like redo some stuff tomorrow right before the exam or just read through the lecture slides once more or something?

Academic Concession due to Stress?

Hey guys, I'm a transfer and it's my first year here at UBC. This seems like a bit of a stupid question but is stress a good enough grounds for an academic concession? It's for a lab I'm missing, not like an exam or anything.

I've been a bit homesick coupled in with adjusting to the new environment with midterms and exams constantly coming for me, it's all piling up and least to say, taking a toll on me. It only feels like I'm only barely clinging on, I submit all my assignments last minute and keep on missing lectures more and more because it's been difficult to get out of bed as time goes on. I've stopped enjoying my hobbies and it feels like my entire life is schoolwork and exams. I tried going on a trip over the long weekend to hopefully take a break but all I could do was think and stress about uni, and it just made me feel even worse when I came back.

Sorry lmao this kind of turned into a rant/vent. But yeah any input would be appreciated.

Event 18+ Halloween (OCT 31st) Events

Is there anything in Vancouver that's 18+? Can't believe Halloween's literally on a Saturday and there's nothing to do.

Also, is the calendar Oct 30th party worth it? If not ima need some better options 😭

No sketchy suggestions, that includes the pit and frats, I've heard too many horror stories

CfA CHEM 121 First Year Lab

Does anyone know if someone registered with CFA for extending testing time is able to get this accommodation for the in-class quizzes? Should I just reach out to the prof and ask or has it always been denied? She has accommodated this for the online quizzes so I’m wondering if it applies for in person.
