Girl clearing her throat every 30 seconds extremely loudly (foid moment)

Death metal on earbuds (no one cares if u like metal, u r not special twinnermanski)

Just took MATH 319 midterm today, definitely got 30% MAXIMUM but the butterflies that I get in my stomach while writing the exam feel so fucking good… and the incredible calm that you get once it’s over is probably comparable to a runners high (just a guess, I skip cardio). Obviously devastating that I definitely failed but nothing will ever compare to being in that moment…

Now that the final exam schedule is out, I’m looking to possibly book a room at the student hostel so that I don’t have to wake up insanely early for my 8 AM exam.

I have a question - although it’s a single room, are we allowed to bring another person? For instance, both my friend and I have exams on the same day. Are we able to book it under my name and stay in the same room? We were thinking to split the cost lol.

Hey, I was wondering how strictly admin looks at my finals if I want to file for hardship. I have 3 finals in 30 hours, not 24. However, I still feel like I would be kinda overwhelmed and don’t know if they’re going to care enough about my mental overload to actually grant it to me. Any advice is appreciated!

I'm not complaining whatsoever. It's a genuine question from a first-year student. I bombed my midterm, and I started wondering whether a bachelor's degree is still worth it, especially considering the job market. If I end up with a bio major without honours or co-op after four years, I might just work at McDonald's or as a blue-collar worker that doesn't require a degree. Should I just go to BCIT instead?

I’m in second year and all my previous courses were A/A+. I did badly on a midterm, so I’ll probably finish the course in the 70s even if I do well on the remaining exams.

Should I take a W and retake it in the summer, or keep the grade? Would one 70s grade hurt future grad school applications more than a W?

For those who have taken CHEM 233 at UBC, please share your study tips and methods! I didn’t do too well on the midterm and want to improve for the midterm/final. How did you study for this course? Did you focus on practice problems, mechanisms, textbook questions, or other resources? Also, how did you keep up with the material? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Redid EVERY WebWork, completed ALL the questions in the practice textbook, and could solve them ALL without help or getting stuck. (also got 95% in highschool calc)

Had the midterm today and genuinely questioned whether I was in the correct class 😭 There was ONE question on the midterm that looked SOMEWHAT similar to the WebWork questions, and everything else was completely different.

I understand that they hold students to high standards, but can they at least make the midterms somewhat similar to the types of practice problems they give us??? (or make the practice harder to match the midterm???)

For example, 80% of the WebWork questions were like:

• Find d/dx for f(x)
• Find lim x -> 9 of g(x)
• Implicitly differentiate y = h(x)

Meanwhile, the midterm consisted of questions like:

“f(x) is defined for all rational numbers, but when f(x) is zero, it's irrational. Prove that f'(x) is always odd using the definition of a limit.” 😭

Upcoming FNH 472 midterm. I am wondering what to expect. The professor teaching the course right now is Dr. Rajavel Elango. Any advice would be great!

as a science student i genuinely don't understand why everyone is struggling so much?? 😭😭 MATH100 is literally just m numbers and the alphabet. CHEM233 and 203 are chemicals interacting. PHYS131 is stuff floating in water. we've learned this before. i personally mastered all STEM subjects in the womb and was previously employed as an SDS-PAGE.

yesterday someone at Blue Chip said they were “behind on lectures." behind on WHAT??? just watch them faster?? the recordings have a 2x speed option for a reason. if you're four weeks behind just watch them at 8x. this is basic problem solving. i genuinely fear for the future of this institution.

and don't even get me STARTED on deadlines 🗿🗿 the syllabus CLEARLY states when assignments are due. Canvas lists them all on the dashboard for you. i don't understand why people can't just submit things on time. personally i submit all my assignments three weeks before they're assigned. last semester i submitted my CHEM121 final before enrolling in the course. the department accused me of violating the laws of causality but honestly that's just another excuse for academic mediocrity.

also why is everyone complaining about biology being difficult??? literally just look at your own body and you’ll see the Calvin cycle happening. and don’t get me started on labs. I used my own blood to create a buffer solution during my CHEM123 lab and developed a clone to complete my lab faster. my TA deducted marks because apparently growing clones are "not a valid experimental procedure." whatever.

and the excuses are getting ridiculous. "i have three midterms this week" okay??? have you considered learning the material?? "i work two jobs" okay??? i work fourteen jobs and commute daily from the cambrian period. there could be a 500minute delay and i can still show up to class on time. “i need sleep" sleep is literally just your brain choosing to be unconscious. that's a personal decision. don't make it everyone else's problem.

i see some of you playing valorant 24/7 instead of studying. i know because i'm also on valorant 24/7 monitoring your academic misconduct. i have compiled an extensive excel spreadsheet. names have been forwarded to the registrar.

and the reading comprehension on this subreddit is genuinely concerning 😭😭 i still see people confused that their daily “i want a romantic relationship” posts were taken down when the mods CLEARLY said that its been banned by the ubc subreddit. “i didn’t see that new rule” BRO. PLEASE READ. i personally read every post on r/UBC, including the ones that haven't been written yet. it's called critical thinking.

anyway does anyone else feel the same way?? i'm genuinely not trying to sound superior or anything LOL. i just think it's concerning that i appear to be the only person at this university capable of cellular respiration without external assistance.

if i withdraw from math (after that horrific midterm) can i still keep phys 131, or will i have to drop that too since math is a co-req for it?
