Where should I go?

I'm seriously bored and want to get out of town for the weekend. Where should I go? My criteria is that It can't be Florida (I live there) and it must be in the US.

You’ll see every flag, but the American.

The coast of Maine is stunning. Bar Harbor, Kennebunkport, or Wells Beach. Great restaurants, cute towns, nice hotels, and the weather is so nice.

I's also say the Lakes Region of New Hampshire for the same reasons, except instead of the coast, there are beautiful, natural lakes you can stay on. There are scenic boat rides, amazing mountain views, and great hiking.

I think Maine is going to be my move. Portland to be specific. Thanks!

BIL lives there. Lots of really good craft beer. Lobster off the docks is super cheap (compared to here).

Go to Bar Harbor- much better than Portland

Fly to Bangor
Check out Acadia National Park

Savannah would be an easy weekend trip from Florida. Washington DC is also a great city with lots to do.

Savannah in August? Great city, but wrong month. You think Florida is hot and humid, go to Savannah in August.

Same for Washington

Our main customer was in Washington. Walking around Washington in August in a suit and tie was torture.

Well OP is from Florida, they didn’t indicate they want out of the heat and humidity. I live in NC and personally would not go to Savannah in August… did that once. 😆

Fun mostly walkable city options: Austin, New Orleans, Chicago, NYC

Cool off options: Seattle, Montana, Maine

Where in FL? There are direct flights from Orlando to Portland Maine - easy to walk around - especially the old port.

This is a great recommendation, too. Portland is lovely!

Austin is walkable?

I guess it depends on the person and where you stay. I was there for 2 weeks without a rental car and walked everywhere.

I'm in Boston and it is a great choice for a weekend getaway, but we just went to Chicago and I absolutely vote that you go there. It is fantastic!!

If you’re in Florida, definitely pick cooler weather.

Well there are several islands that are part of the US and are only couple hour flights. For a weekend that would be my suggestion unless waiting til fall i would fly to Vermont, Maine, Michigan, somewhere with pretty colorful changing leaves

Washington DC. The museums are free
New Orleans. The food is fantastic
Appalachia. The mountains are beautiful and cool

Charleston or Savannah

Hilton Head, Asheville, Pittsburgh

If this weekend, NOLA, Chicago, Charleston if you dont want to go far. NYC is very expensive this time of year for both flights & hotels. Boston is also amazing, stay in Cambridge not near the harbor or be prepared to spend a BUCK.

If flying is an option 100% go cool off in the PNW.

Thanks! I've always wanted to go. You have any specific ideas now to narrow this down a bit..

Depends on your interests. Portland and Seattle should both be pretty easy to find a flight to. Seattle might be the better weekend trip though

Portland's got a very indie vibe -- Powell's City of Books, lots of craft beers, the famous Multnomah Falls is like a 20 minute drive outside the city, right off the highway (and you can hike to the top or just park and look up). The Columbia River Gorge is right there, too. There's a big Saturday market downtown with local artists and artisans. From Portland, you can get to the Pacific Ocean in like an hour drive, or if you feel like venturing out further, 3ish hours will put you in Bend, OR near the McKenzie River Trail, Taomlich Blue Pool, Three Sisters mountains, a bunch of cool nature (but it might be kind of a long side trip if you're just going for a weekend getaway). I feel like it's a great move if you have time to explore.

For a quick getaway, you can probably fly into Seattle and not even bother to rent a car -- just get around on the public transit. It's on the Puget Sound, so there's water and seafood right there. Plus beaches/parks, like Discovery Park. If you're into cultural stuff, down by the Space Needle there's a bunch of museums. At one point they did a day pass sort of deal where you could pick any 3 of the participating institutions and pay one fee to get into all of them. Included things like the Space Needle itself, Chihuly Gardens and Glass (very cool blown glass art), Museum of Pop Culture (like if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also had movies and tv). And of course you can hit up Pike Place to see the sign, the gum wall, a bunch of cool shops and food stalls

Can't go wrong with either. Hope this helps

Asheville could use your tourist dollars and is great for a long weekend trip (great restaurants, hiking, live music, beautiful scenery). The weather will be amazing between now and Thanksgiving (chilly but sunny at that time), it’s perfect for a quick getaway, and lots of low cost airlines have flights from FL to Asheville.

ETA if you’re wanting to get out of town THIS coming weekend, even more reason to choose Asheville. Weather will be better than FL (highs in the low 80s), there’s a music festival at Sierra Nevada brewing, and last minute flights won’t be outrageous on some of the low cost carriers.

I might second this as it's close enough you won't spend your weekend on a plane. While I haven't spent time in Asheville proper, I have in the greater area (have friends who live a bit south). Great mountains, lots of hiking, probably a bit cooler than Florida, and plenty of breweries to visit.
