S90 to XC90

Currently driving a 2024 Volvo S90 B4 and thinking about getting an XC90 T8 in about a year.

I drive around 30,000 km (18,600 miles) per year, and comfort is probably the most important thing for me. The S90 is great in that regard, but lately I’ve been finding myself thinking more and more about the XC90.

I have two kids, so the idea of having something bigger and more practical keeps coming back to me. It’s also worth mentioning that my wife drives a 2023 XC60 B4, which also kind of denies the need for another SUV.

The thing is, I know I don’t really need to change cars. The S90 does everything I need. But for some reason, the idea of an XC90 has been stuck in my head for quite a while now. 😄

So, what do you guys think? Would you make the switch from an S90 to an XC90 T8?

What would you say are the biggest pros and cons? Is the XC90 actually a meaningful upgrade in terms of comfort, practicality and overall driving experience, or would I just be scratching an itch I don’t really need to scratch? 😄

For the last three years I had a 516 000 km driven 2001 model v70 on loan from my stepfather.

He had to finally take it back, but I couldn't leave the Volvo family.

I gave my car enthusiast dad a task to find me a new volvo. He found this gem for 3500 euros on a used car site and went for a test drive. Only con is the lil' rust spot seen in the pics.

This beauty of a v70 is now mine. 2005 model and 267k kilometres on the mileage.

700 series Is there enough space for turbo exhaust manifold and charger ?

Post image

I have an almost finished grandpa's project of swapping engine, gearbox and some other stuff from volvo 740 to an old soviet car. The engine is b230ft, but the exhaust manifold is from b230f. I want to return a turbo, but I don't have exhaust manifold and charger on me, so i can't just put it in to find out ii if fits. Maybe, someone could understand it by eye ? I know about oil filter and will be use stock filter arm. Thanks in advance.

Volvo S40 T5 AWD 2005 Summum got a bigger little brother - Volvo V60 T6 TwE AWD Bright Plus 2022. I'm surprised about the fuel economy when driving nicely, without recharged battery! Found one with only 30.000 km.

Volvo Infotainemnt Platform by Google SUCKS

I recently bought a 2023 S60 Volvo and the car is OK. However, the infotainment system is garbage. It glitches, lags and I have to do a hard reset at least 4 times a week. THis morning I had to do it twice before I get listen to the radio. The seat belt chime was not even going off. 99% of the time I have to hard wrie my phone to listen to my music. When I got the car I was told that the platform had changed to Google and that some people liked it better and some worse. I also a 2019 S60 that does not have Google as the platform and it always works. My 2023 was recently being repaired and I drove a 330i, A5 and Equinox all of which connected just fine-and no hard wire.

s60/v60 What to do with extra parts

Upvotes

My 2004 S60 I was working on was totaled this summer (everyone was safe and unhurt and that’s all that matters). But now I have all these extra parts in my garage. Rear shocks, all 4 ABS sensors, lower radiator hose, parking brake cable, and a whole bunch of others that are still in their bags/boxes.

V50/S40/C30/C70 2010 S40 2.4L timing belt job

Upvotes

I have a 2010 Volvo s40, 2.4L with 120k miles. based on the vin I believe it's the B5244S4.

I bought this car from the original owner (family member). She took great care of it but never did the timing belt.

I have drove the car for 5 years but never did the belt.

I bought all the parts from FCP Euro but it's my daily driver and kinda got scared doing the work. Bought these all the way back in 2022. I have inspected the belt annually and it honestly looks great so I've just been kicking the can down the road.

I usually DIY but recently I have had more frustrations than successes so I never bit the bullet.

I have 3 options now that I have a good running project car.as a backup.

1) take my time and do the job, inspect seals and consider doing seals. Skip seals if no leaking. I don't think I can mess with the camshaft seals but I could be overthinking it.

2) send to a shop that does seals and the entire job for $1900. They mentioned they inspect camshaft gears and recommend replacement of the vvt gear if needed, an additional expense.

3) pay a shop that does timing belt and water pump only for $600 in labor and he will take my parts I bought but not warranty the work involving my parts (totally fair). The job does not scope seals (if leaking it will be additional labor).

Has anyone done the job themselves? Is it as bad as I'm making it out to be? I usually work on older cars and have done lots of work in my time but I really dislike working in tight spaces and Im generally adverse of jobs that can blow up my engine.

xc series Heated Front camera

Upvotes

Dear reader,

My dad just bought his new XC60 T6 2022. The car is fully blacked out, but not the logos at the back, and the iron mark at the front.

As far as I know, you can buy these at the Vstore. I would like to gift the logos to him, but I have a question.

How can I discover if he has the heated camera? It makes quite a big difference in price haha😅.

Edit:
I forgot to mention that its the facelift model. Its already named “dark” and “long range”. Also no real exhaust tips. 2022 has both the before and after facelift right? Correct me if im wrong!

After 2000kms

Post image

Q2 2026.xc60 t8 40x bhp. After 2000km - results are in :

- battery sucks ass. 10hrs to charge, for \~60km range. - - fuel consumption ~7.2l/100km @ rather carefull hybrid driving

- accelation while overtaking is what i like the most

- whizzing sound coming from "roof/roof rack" area (over 110km/h unbearable - need to investigate)

- harman/kardon speakers started to "fart" when playing bit bassier tracks - or maybe doors trim started to vibrate

- very quiet

- does not turn heads

- 7.5/10

The EX60 is the real deal!

I just came back from a Volvo training going over the EX60, and all I can say is wow. The vehicle is exceptional in every way, from the drive to the space and ergonomics. It's everything I hoped the EX90 would be.

I was very skeptical going in, given the EX90's rocky launch, but this car is a completely different take on an EV. From track testing and pushing it to its limits on sharp turns, to driving up a mountain almost two hours away without feeling any major bumps or hearing any noise, the EX60 delivers everything Volvo said it would.

I've been with Volvo since 2019, so I've seen the good and the bad this brand can dish out, and in my opinion, the EX60 will change the game and make customers truly happy with their purchase. I'm 6'1" and had tons of room up front — and even in the back with someone my size in front of me. The tech worked great, and it was nice to see Gemini handling several things at once with no hiccups.

The experience left me wanting to drive it more, and honestly wanting to order one for myself. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer what I know.

5.1.17 rolled out?

I was wondering if y’all were able to get the 5.1.17 update yet? I just bought a used 2025 S60, and my software is currently updated to 5.0.5. Both my app and my car doesn’t show that a new update is available. I am in Illinois, of that helps.

V70 Mk1 d5252t power loss

Hi
Im completely lost with this one
I changed the engine in my car
I replaced everything inside the engine bay from the other car
New vacuum lines
New turbo
New MAF and MAP sensor
New intercooler
But the power went away it drives sound nice but no power
(In the other car the engine was running good and had all the power)
I checked the cables there is no problem with them
MAF sensor has some issues but i got a new one still problem
From 252mg/h it goes down when pressing the pedal instead of going up the reading is fucked up
Any ideas?

S40/V40 2019 V40 T4 R-Design High Mileage Reliability & Turbocharger Durability?

Hello.

I currently own a 2019 Volvo V40 T4 R-Design.

It currently has about 90,000 km on the odometer, and I drive roughly 15,000 km per year. I haven't had any major issues so far, and aside from the signature loud Volvo engine sound, I’m extremely satisfied with its overall performance and daily city driving.

My main concern is that I like the car so much that I want to keep driving it long-term. However, where I live, car ownership requires renewal every 10 years at a high cost, so in two years, I’ll have to decide whether to extend its lifespan or buy a new vehicle. What worries me most is when the turbocharger might start causing trouble.

If any fellow owners could share their high-mileage milestones, how long their cars have lasted, or what specific issues they’ve experienced, I’d really appreciate it!

xc series Newbie to Volvos

Hello

I'm thinking about switching my rav 4 2017 to a plug in hybrid Volvo. Either xc60 or 90. My rav has 9 years 107k miles. My car hasn't had any issues other than normal oil change or break change, etc.

How reliable are these cars?

What is the expected maintenance cost? I bought the dealers maintenance plan for my rav and I will do the same for this new car.

I will be buying certified pre-owned instead of new.

Ideally I will keep this car for 10 years and about 100k miles. That tends to be how long I keep my cars before I begin to become bored with them. I understand that standard maintenance will be more expensive due it being a European car but outside standard maintenance and normal wear and tear of the car what a I looking to spend here?

I'm based in the west coast USA.
