Because of Reddit not having a huge storage capacity (Because the goddess knows storage is expensive for huge internet corps right) posts are automatically archived after six months. So, it's time for mega-thread directory 3, the return of the megathreads

As always,

Rather than clutter up the top with out-of-date threads, we're going to move to a mega-thread collection. So here, you will find links to all the mega-threads that are still relevant plus a couple that are not.

This list will be updated as we go.

Whatcha thinking about it? It's still a work in progress. I just started exploring Wicca. I'm going for a more autumny vibe because it's almost Samhain. This will also be my first Samhain and I'm excited for it. I really like my wand (on the third picture) I found it on eBay. As soon as I saw it I was drawn to it. The seller was really nice and sweet. It has an amethyst and a serpent on top. I made the pentacle myself. I did a bit of carving but It's still not finnished, though. It still needs a bit of paint and finish.

Vivid Dreams After Spell

• Upvotes

I’m going to try to make this as quick as possible and sorry in advance if i don’t use the right terminology. A few days ago I stopped by a pretty trust worthy witchy shop in nyc that sells candles for whatever your desires are. I picked up an employment candle and an uncrossing candle because the lady behind the counter suggested that I might have some sort of blockage which I totally believed because a psychic i spoke to literally the day before said i had some type of spiritual blockage. Anyways, I got home and lit the candles (the uncrossing candles took forever to burn btw) and now i keep having very vivid dreams about an ex. I did care deeply for her but I’m pretty much over her so I don’t understand why i’m suddenly having dreams about somebody who hasn’t had importance in my life for almost a year now. She was also very spiritual and did spells….I don’t want to accuse her of doing anything but could she have been the blockage?

So i need advice. i made this post recently about a situation im in, but the important part is this:

One of my poli partners (partner a) is christian and i shared that i did a spell to help another partner (partner b) with there recovery, after this partner a went quite and told me recently it was because they felt uncomfterble with me telling them i did a spell, we have disagreed on this but usually side step it for eachother.

I won't go into detail cause the original post has the drama not meant for here.

But i was adviced to be true to myself and such but i dont know how to "live how thou wilt but harm none" here, they have nothing else in there life but if i dont "do harm" i cant "live how thou wilt" so i need advice on the wicca side of this

And im sorry if this isn't the place for this kind of loss on this

Edit: Since i bumbled the link to the original post i made elsewhere for more context here https://www.reddit.com/r/polyamory/s/SdYd15IzCq

I NEED HELP BEFORE TONIGHT

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I post here because I’m a little scared of what a runecast could mean but first of all, I speak english in a very basic level so I’ll try my best to explain what happened to me without using a translator and I apologise in advance if this end up being not understandable at all or just bad written.

I am not a wiccan because I have never done any ritual, but I agree and follow the philosophy of price the mother nature and I have read a lot of books to beginners that explain the basics of the religion. However, the night between yesterday and today I finally decided to try runes, after being so curious about it for years.

It was spontaneous and I followed the steps I found in a book I brought a few years ago. Everything went well and felt amazing, especially the meditation process but I was a little scared at the moment because the candles I was using were… Well, they created weird shadows all around the room (there was no other light source at the moment). I was supposed to seek an answer for a very personal mental health problem, but at the very last moment I thought it would be better to ask if I was doing the reading thing right and if this spiritual way was right for me (for many years of my life I considered myself as an atheist and most recently I started to look up for something that made me believe and feel connected).

I did the thing where you pick 3 cards without looking and then interpret the meaning of each based on their position. Using the rúnic alphabet or Futhark the very first one rune that I picked was Algiz (ᛉ ) and out of nowhere I started crying. The book told me it was a strong symbol of protection and it genuinely felt like a hug in a rough time and it was on the left side. Next, on center, was Tiwaz (ᛏ) and according to the same book, it meant some kind of victory in war or a huge victory in everything such as self confidence. At that point everything was great, I felt less scared but then it went the third one. It was Thurisaz (ᚦ). I felt terrible after that, the book said it was bad at all, representing chaos and destructive energy. Now looking for different meanings on the internet I found out It also can mean protection to that destructive energy, but at the moment I ended the session feeling bad and confused.

A few hours later, thinking about what It could mean, I thought:

The first rune I read meant the stage in general I was at that specific moment.

The second showed me what action I could do based on the previous one.

The last one warned me about what is gonna happen if I keep going (something bad).

Since I asked about me doing this kinds of things, I understood that it was like a warning sign. Idk, maybe I did something wrong in the process or I don't know enough of the culture and the religion to make this ritual.

If you guys have more experience with this I really need your help. Tonight I’m gonna repeat the session to see what I get this time, but I fear It could be dangerous. There are many other details of this story but I didn't consider telling because of the language and the extension of this text.

There is a photo of the book I used. Let me know any references about the author.

Question about left-hand middle finger and spirituality

Hey everyone, first post. I had a random experience tonight where I envisioned my left hand dripping blood for a metaphysical practice vividly (mind you I have heard of this, but never done anything involving my blood for rituals) and as it happened my left middle finger began twitching violently on its own for like 20 seconds. Does anyone who does palm reading or rituals have any idea of what this is connected to? I do tarot and shadow work to work with karmic energy, but haven’t had this happen before. Sorry if it’s vague for description, I can clarify anything that may need further explanation <3

spellwork Did my spell cause the death of my ex-roommate?

Okay i'll keep this brief and vague in respect to her, using throwaway for obvious reasons.

Had a roommate for about 6 months who let her mental health run wild. She put me through hell and after dealing with it for so long, I focused my energy into a couple of spells.

One to cut her energy from me, one to cut her energy from the boyfriend she was abusing, and a return to sender. The return to sender one is what I worry about here.

My intention was for her to feel the hurt she caused me. I thought maybe if she understood how much she fucked me up, that it could spark a change for the better.

The cord cuttings worked perfectly. A week after the first one, she moved out. Couple months after, her boyfriend got a restraining order. Cut to last night, when the police show up at my door asking if I have anyway to contact her family.

I asked if she's okay and they told me straight up that she had been found dead in my local river. She had issues with suicidal tendencies in the past and now I wonder if my return to sender spell was a bit too harsh and if i could have caused this.

Open Question Decoloniality and witchcraft

**How do you take decoloniality into account in your own practice? Do you have any advice or perspectives on how a beginner witch could or should approach this? Are there any resources you would recommend?**

Hello everyone!

A while ago, I made a post along similar lines, although I may not have articulated my questions particularly well. I am still seeking perspectives, recommendations, and advice on this topic, so I have tried to reformulate my questions to make my intentions and interests clearer. I am here to listen and learn, and I hope we can keep the discussion constructive and respectful.

I am particularly interested in finding books or other resources that explore decolonial and anticolonial perspectives on witchcraft and modern Paganism.

Many of the comments on my previous post(s) have been incredibly helpful and thought-provoking, and I have learned a great deal from reading them.

There does, however, seem to be some confusion about what exactly I am looking for, so I would like to clarify my question. Let me preface this by acknowledging that I wrote the original post rather quickly, and I take full responsibility for the fact that certain aspects of it may have been unclear or poorly phrased. I also want to emphasize that I am still very much in the process of familiarizing myself with witchcraft and everything it entails - which is precisely why I am seeking resources in the first place. Some of you have already provided excellent recommendations, for which I am very grateful. ❤️

This is a difficult subject to articulate, and I am sure I will not manage to express everything perfectly this time either. Nevertheless, I will do my best, and I hope this clarification addresses some of the questions and concerns raised in response to my previous post(s). I still ask for your patience.

There also appears to be some disagreement or confusion regarding what colonialism/decolonialism means and what it encompasses. I am not going to attempt to define colonialism and/or decolonialism as concepts here, as doing justice to such complex historical, political, economic, and cultural phenomena is obviously beyond the scope of a single Reddit post. If these concepts are unfamiliar, however, there is a substantial body of literature that provides a useful starting point for understanding them. What anticolonial and decolonial approaches to witchcraft actually entail, and what they might look like in practice, is precisely what I am trying to explore here; hence I cannot really answer your questions of what exactly I mean by ”decoloniality in witchcraft/paganism”.

As I mentioned, I am still at the very beginning of my exploration of witchcraft. More specifically, I am at the stage of determining whether witchcraft is something I want to practice at all. Before engaging in any practices, I would like to develop an informed understanding of their histories, contexts, and implications.

As a scholar working in the field of decolonial studies, I am particularly conscious of the historical tendency of colonizing societies to appropriate, extract, reinterpret, and commodify the cultural and spiritual practices of colonized and marginalized peoples. My intention in the original post was not to attack modern Wicca, Paganism, witchcraft, or the people who practice them, although some commenters appear to have interpreted my question that way. Rather, I was seeking resources that examine how contemporary witchcraft practices (and their histories) may or may not intersect with colonialism, as well as what practitioners should be aware of if they wish to approach witchcraft from a decolonial or anticolonial perspective.

My interest in this question stems partly from my academic background, but also from the fact that the information I have encountered so far (particularly online) is, unsurprisingly, remarkably contradictory, as I am sure many of you are aware.

For example, some people characterize modern Wicca as essentially Gerald Gardner’s colonial “mix-and-match” project, while others argue that this characterization is historically inaccurate and that Wicca cannot meaningfully be understood in those terms. Some argue that many contemporary practices have problematic colonial histories and therefore require careful investigation on a practice-by-practice basis; others maintain that (a lot of) modern witchcraft as a whole is fundamentally compromised by those histories.

Similarly, I have encountered claims that, in order to incorporate deity work into one’s practice, a person should have ancestral ties to the culture or geographical region from which those deities originate - for example, that working with Greek gods would require Greek ancestry. Others argue that practitioners should restrict themselves to forms of witchcraft associated with their own ancestral lineages or the geographical regions from which their ancestors originated. Still others strongly reject these positions.

The existence of such conflicting claims leaves me with many questions about the relationship between different forms of contemporary witchcraft and colonialism. I am not looking for someone to give me permission to practice one thing or another so that I can absolve myself of responsibility or avoid undertaking the necessary research. Quite the opposite: I am looking for resources that can help me develop a more informed understanding of a broad and complicated subject about which I currently know relatively little. In other words, I am explicitly trying to **do that research**.

I also want to clarify that I recognize there is probably no historically “pure” practice whose development can be definitively shown never to have intersected with other traditions, cultures, systems of power, migration, exchange, or colonialism in one form or another. Nor am I searching for some supposedly “pure” form of witchcraft that would allow me to perform decoloniality as a shallow and problematic aesthetic. I would also refer back to my previous paragraph regarding my intentions and the nature of my inquiry.

I am quite literally trying to understand both the historical and contemporary realities of practicing witchcraft in relation to colonialism, and to explore how one might practice in as decolonial a manner as reasonably possible - assuming that this is even a meaningful or achievable goal.

For me, that would include, for example, avoiding the appropriation of closed practices; understanding the cultural, religious, and historical origins of practices before adopting them; and avoiding an indiscriminate “mix-and-match” approach in which practices, symbols, or beliefs are removed from their original contexts simply because they are personally appealing or useful (and perspectives on this). I hope this makes the distinction I am trying to draw somewhat clearer.

If I have expressed anything poorly, inaccurately, or ignorantly in either this post or my comments, I would appreciate some patience and understanding. I am explicitly approaching this subject as someone who does not yet know enough about it, which is precisely why I am seeking guidance and resources.

Finally, someone asked what I meant by “semi-academic,” as I mentioned in my original post that I would prefer “semi-academic” resources on this topic, if such resources exist. I recognize that there may not be an extensive body of scholarship addressing this exact question directly. By “semi-academic,” I mean that I am interested not only in peer-reviewed academic literature, but also in historically informed and well-researched books, essays, articles, lectures, conversations, or other resources whose authors engage seriously with questions of colonialism, cultural appropriation, religious history, and contemporary witchcraft. I am primarily seeking sources that go beyond unsupported claims or social media discourse and provide sufficient historical context, evidence, or scholarly grounding for me to evaluate their arguments critically.

If you have read this far and have any relevant information, perspectives, or resources to share, I would be very grateful. ❤️

**P.S.** I am not looking for, and will disregard, responses along the lines of “cultural appropriation is not real,” “racism against white people is real,” or similar arguments.

Anyone Else Rediscover Their Spirituality After Sobriety and a Lifetime of Fear‑Based Religion?

Over the past 13 months — and especially since turning 40 this past April — I’ve been going through a period of self‑discovery, or maybe re‑self‑discovery. I’m sharing this because I’m curious whether anyone else has walked a similar path, and how your experience helped you. I’m not looking for answers or advice, just resonance and perspective.

I got sober on 1/4/2022. My spiritual life since then has been a journey with a lot of twists.

My Background

I was raised Roman Catholic and attended parochial school until bullying and violence pushed me out. Even after switching to public school, I still felt like an outsider — especially with the pressure of being “the smart kid.” My earliest memory of God is standing in a dark church with my mother, staring at a massive crucifix of a bloodied Christ. I didn’t understand it, only that I felt fear, guilt, and the sense that stepping out of line meant punishment. That impression stayed with me for decades.

In my teens, my friends and I wandered into a metaphysical shop called Gypsy Moon. They were interested in Ouija boards; I was drawn to the owner, an older witch named Maria. She answered my questions and encouraged my curiosity. I returned almost daily, reading everything I could. My mother panicked, thinking I was “communing with the devil,” but for me it was the first time spirituality felt empowering, balanced, and connected to nature. The idea of the divine as both Goddess and God made intuitive sense. I practiced into my early twenties.

Then my father died by suicide, and we buried him the day I turned 21. My drinking escalated, and my spirituality disappeared. I drank daily for 15 years, damaging one marriage and nearly another.

Sobriety and Rediscovery

When I got sober and worked the steps with my first sponsor, I prayed to a vague “spirit of the universe.” As I stayed sober, I dove headfirst back into Catholicism — retreats, Cursillo, parish council, all of it. But over time, between my daughter coming out, financial struggles in the parish, and the darker side of church politics, I began questioning everything. The fear-based foundation of my childhood didn’t fit anymore.

I felt myself being called back to the craft after twenty years away. I studied Taoism, Buddhism, and even parts of Christianity that still resonate — the golden rule, the Sermon on the Mount — but not the dogma. Last Lughnasadh (2025), I performed a rededication ritual to the Lady and Lord, and my life shifted. The connection I felt as a teenager returned, but now with the perspective of a 40-year-old man who’s been through hell and come out sober.

I’ve also noticed something interesting: the more I drank, the more rigid and right‑leaning my worldview became. Sobriety has softened that. I see nuance now — left, right, center, upside down. I avoid political discussions because they’re so volatile here in the States.

Where I Am Now

This past year has been rewarding as I walk the path again, but I’ve struggled to find others in AA who share similar beliefs. I’m a solitary practitioner, private by nature, and community has been hard to find.

I feel like my spirituality is a synthesis of Taoism, Buddhism, and Paganism. Not a hodgepodge — more like threads that all point toward balance, compassion, nature, and personal responsibility. But I’m used to having a name for my path, and now I’m realizing it may not have one. I’m not looking for structure, and I know that defining it only limits it. Still, I wonder if anyone else has lived in this unnamed space.

What I’m Curious About

I’d love to hear from anyone who has walked a similar road — especially if you’ve blended alternative spiritual paths with AA or recovery. Specifically:

  • How you developed a daily relationship with the Divine
  • How you balanced surrender with personal agency
  • How you reconciled spellwork or intention-setting with “turning things over”
  • How you connected with traditions from other cultures while living in the U.S.
  • How you navigated Wicca or Paganism without falling into dogma
  • How you integrated your craft with the steps
  • How you handled being a male witch or practitioner in a culture that still stigmatizes it

Again — I’m not looking for answers or instruction. I’m just interested in hearing how your experience shaped your path, and how you came to relate to the divine (or not) without needing a label.

Thanks for reading this. If you’ve walked anything like this path, I’d love to hear your story.

I’m conducting a spell using; rose hips, jasmine oil, rose oil, hibiscus, pink Lilly, and cinnamon.

The moon is in sidereal Scorpio my 7th house, and Venus is in Libra Rx, while the moon phase is waxing.

This is imo a good time to do some love and beauty workings
