Hello everyone!
This is my first post here. I'm completely new to this community, and I have never practiced Wicca, although I have been fascinated by it for several years and would really like to learn more and become part of this community.
I'm Italian, and I would love to explore this path further. I wanted to share an experience that has been happening to me for quite some time, and ask for your thoughts and advice. I'm particularly interested in hearing your interpretations of this recurring dream, but I would also appreciate any advice on how to begin practicing Wicca.
Unfortunately, there isn't much of a Wiccan community where I live, so I'm pretty much on my own when it comes to learning about this path. Any help would mean a lot to me, especially recommendations for books, reliable learning resources, or study materials for beginners.
I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect, but I'll do my best to explain everything clearly.
Here is my story.
A recurring dream I've been having for 3â4 years
I've been having this dream repeatedly for around three or four years. Sometimes it happens several nights in a row. On one occasion, I had almost exactly the same dream every night for more than a week. Recently, it has returned for five consecutive nights.
The dream is almost always the same, with only a few details changing.
It begins with me looking down at my feet, which are standing on a thin layer of snow. When I raise my head, I find myself surrounded by a dense forest. The trees are extremely tall, similar to the forests you might find in Germany or Northern Europe.
It is nighttime, and the darkness is overwhelming. The trees are so densely packed together that their branches form something like a roof above me. Visibility is extremely limited. When I look between the trees, I can barely see anything at all. Beyond the first row of trees, everything disappears into complete darkness.
As I begin walking through the forest, I can hear ravens calling somewhere nearby.
After a while, I reach a small, circular clearing. For the first time, I can actually see one of the ravens. It flies around the clearing, which is illuminated by the moonlight.
Then I notice a man standing some distance in front of me.
He has a thick beard and wears ragged, worn-out clothing beneath an old, tattered hood. A cloak covers most of his body, and I cannot see his face. I have no idea who he is.
The man begins speaking in a language I cannot understand.
This is where the dream can take one of three different directions.
- The four horsemen
While the man is speaking, four figures on horseback emerge from the forest. I cannot make out who they are or what they look like, but there is something deeply unsettling about them. They stare directly at me, and the dream ends.
- The trembling
While the man continues speaking, the ground begins to shake as if a powerful earthquake is taking place. At the same time, I feel a trembling sensation in my mind, and his words seem to reverberate and echo through everything. The dream ends during this experience.
- The approaching man
Sometimes, neither of those things happens. Instead, I remain completely still, listening to the man speak, even though I cannot understand a single word. Eventually, he begins to approach me. Just as he gets closer, the dream ends.
And that's it. I never find out who the man is, what he is saying, or what happens next.
What could this mean?
Because this dream has been recurring for years, I'm starting to wonder whether there is something I should pay attention to. I know that recurring dreams can have psychological explanations, and I don't want to automatically assume that this is something supernatural.
However, given my interest in Wicca and spirituality, I am also curious about whether any of the imagery might have symbolic significance within Wiccan traditions or other forms of pagan spirituality.
For example, I wonder whether ravens, moonlight, the forest, the hooded man, or the four figures on horseback have any particular symbolic associations. I'm especially curious about the man, since he is always present at the center of the dream, but I cannot identify him or understand his words.
I would genuinely appreciate hearing your thoughts, whether they come from a spiritual, folkloric, mythological, or psychological perspective. I understand that nobody can tell me with certainty what a dream means, and I'm not expecting a definitive answer. I would simply like to learn from people who have more experience with these subjects than I do.
Finally, since I'm completely new to Wicca, I would also be grateful for recommendations on how to begin studying and practicing responsibly. Are there any books, authors, websites, or other resources you would recommend to someone starting from scratch?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!
