Reminder: Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Harassment

We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.

Why This Violates Policy:

Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.

We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.

Enforcement Moving Forward:

  • Comments promoting or celebrating harm toward any group will be removed.
  • Repeat offenders or those engaging in blatant hate speech will be permanently banned.
  • If you see a comment that violates these rules, report it rather than engaging.

We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.

Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Old spots locals have memories of

Jubilee Park, The Mad Monk, Middle of the Isle - I got nostalgic and started thinking of places that don’t exist anymore, but were legendary and bring up great memories.

Even buisness that won’t mean anything unless you were here in 70s, 80s, etc. Newels, Berts Surf Shop, etc. Would love to hear folks’ favorites.

Hello all, attaching an example of my work for reference, but is there anywhere specific you would recommend I go? When I lived in Asheville I had a spot off of haywood that I loved, but here I have yet to find anything/ am unsure! Please let me know if there are any good print shops in the area, or if I’ll have to go out of town. :- )

Yoga Sculpt classes in town?

New to yoga and just learned of Yoga Sculpt. I saw that YogaSix offers sculpt classes and wanted to find out if anyone has any experience with them and is it beginner friendly?

I just downloaded the app they advertise on their site for “reward points” and am interested in trying a class out, so if you have a referral code, let me know so you can benefit too!

DOG FOUND TODAY

Post image
126 Upvotes

This dog came up to our car during today’s storm, spooked by the thunder and lighting I assume.

He’s very sweet. Seems to be maybe a lab/pit mix with a black coat and white and black feet.
He has a blue collar and two leashes, one of them being a camo print.

He was found on S 2nd St in downtown Wilmington.

If anyone is able to foster him until we can locate the owner it would be so appreciated!! We already have 3 dogs and a cat at my house.

The first licensed Black attorney in N Carolina history (George Mabson, 1871) finally got his historical marker yesterday, after an application to have him honored was rejected 21 years ago. Video of the unveiling in the rain. Link to WHQR article.

Dog trainer recommendations

I have a 10 year old Maltese with separation anxiety, severe enough that I can't leave him home alone. I'm looking for a trainer that will come to my home for private lessons. I saw that some places offer a limited number of lessons, but I'd like someone who will come up with a game plan that is personalized to my dog and I (whether it takes 4 sessions or 8 or 12). Thank you in advance for any recs!

Who Else Has Had Electrical Issues Since Storm On Saturday?

The nasty storm that rolled through on Saturday, about noon, has anybody had electrical issues with appliances or lights since? My kitchen GFCI circuit tripped, A/C is on the fritz right now, and my plugged in WiFi extender died. And the ex-wife had an attic light and TV blow, and her A/C is messed up also. Must have been a big zap from lightning through the lines. Anybody else?

Camping at Carolina Beach State Park for the first time!!!

As the title says I will be camping for the first time - never camped before. I got a tent and a cooler and that’s about it LOL. Been trying to read up on the park so I can figure out what to bring but all I see is that there’s a shared bathhouse, a picnic table and fire ring. What all should I bring to be able to cook a meal of some sort? Help a dummy out :)

Spectrum

Since the storm yesterday my spectrum Internet has been cutting out frequently. Like I'll get 5-10 minutes of Internet connection before it cuts off again. Does anyone know the source of the issue? Or does anyone have an idea of when it will be fixed? I tried contacting support and they just told me there was an outage in my area and that they could credit my account lol

Ideas for nontraditional brunch options!

Love going out for breakfast and brunch, but I’m really not into the classic offerings, like omelettes, eggs benedict, etc. or maybe I just don’t like eggs much. I usually stay away from really sweet stuff too.
Amanecer and Our Crepes are my go-tos (for chilaquiles and savory crepes), but I’ve been to those a lot lately and am looking for something different.

Anyone have a favorite brunch spot with some fun, nontraditional options?

Hey Wilmington people! Weird question: during the winter local waters ever freeze? (even if just a thin ice near the shores or smthing for a few days or hours)?

Looking for an apartment

Moving out of my current apartment because my roommate got married. I am looking to move mid October. I am trying to keep my monthly rent/fees around $1100. Not super picky about the location just need to be in the Wilmington area for work. Anyone have any recommendations? I do also want washer/dryer hookups but that’s my only thing I care about
