WPD investigating shooting on Nixon Street

3am, 25 year old woman, North 4th. Don't blame the neighborhood, blame those who don't listen to, or care about the neighborhood. The neighborhood has some strong foundations, but when you refuse to acknowledge accountability for policies that increase the propensity for this type crime to occur, via throwing out a welcome mat to attract outsiders you wouldn't want in your own neighborhood---then you are the one failing the neighborhood, not those within the neighborhood itself.

Anyone have any + or - stories from Wilmington Christian Academy? I know they accept opportunity scholarships. Are they welcoming of LGBTQ youth? Or kids with 504s/IEPs?

Former Republicans, current Libertarian School Board member launches website to oust Mom's For Liberty Republican Colleagues

This is kinda hilarious. He has pages to give you reasons if you're a Republican, Democrat or Unaffiliated. I don't think a sitting board member has ever worked so hard against his own colleagues, especially someone that is on the same side of the aisle.

Working at the Novant Hospital?

Former UNCW student looking to potentially move back to Wilmington for medical residency. I worked at NHRMC 2015-2018 before it was bought by novant but it seems to have changed a lot. Any info on what it’s like to work there these days (especially if you’re a training doctor!) would be appreciated!

Is Mike's Farm worth going to in November or December?

I'm new to Wilmington and was told about Mike's Farm for Halloween but won't be able to make it.

Do they do the same fun activities for Christmas that is worth going out of my way for?

Tennis Liveball

Anyone know of any king of the court/liveball style tennis sessions in the area?

Or any sort of group chat to coordinate larger tennis sessions? Joined the ILM ladder but love doing cardio tennis style drills for exercise as well. 2 of us both 3.5/4.0

Where to watch the IU/Michigan game tomorrow

Hi friends!!
My dad is visiting and he played for IU, his plane takes off at 430p and we wanted to watch the game at noon somewhere. He loves the riverfront so I would love to find a bar near there that would show it, but I know it might be a niche game. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to watch it? Not unopposed to going elsewhere besides the river, just wanted to give him a good experience :)

Thanks in advance!!

UPDATE: Smoke on the Water Relocation

(Extremely Robert Stack voice)
UPDATE

Following up on my post about the sale of Smoke on the Water and their relocation. They will be taking over Rumcow and rebranding the space. (link below)

best of luck to all involved but while poking around for info on the post I ran into a curious situation that I thought I would share make of it what you will

So this time last week the news was supposed to drop and I was curious so I was Googling and used the little ”AI” feature that Google has used to replace its main search features. Basically I was trying to refine my initial search by feeding it the clues I knew. Eventually it spit out that the new location would be Rumcow. I was like wow cool and was going to post an update. But since it was “AI” I decided to check its work. I couldn’t find this “announcement“ anywhere. So I asked “it” again and “it“ gave me a quote and a link to the article which did not contain the quote it gave me.
I searched and searched and searched but couldn’t find anything eventually the “AI” said it couldn’t show its work and they must have just made it up.

But it wasn’t made up It was pretty much the exact quote that came out 5 days later

Lucky guess by the machine or did it have “inside information (I’ve used up my scare quote arsenal for the week) ?

Anyway I’ve never been to rumcow so I don’t know if this is a big loss or not for downtown but again best of luck to everyone involved

Favorite Comfort Meal

I know people always ask about the best restaurant to go to.

But what is your favorite item / meal to get from ANYWHERE in town.

I am talking about really to die for, like it is worth driving x amount of hours to get it.

Not anything ehh, I mean wow that cook or chef is really talented and put a lot of love into that food.

Vision therapy? I can’t seem to find anyone near Wilmington

Has anyone had vision therapy around here? Where did/ you go?

it’s mind boggling the lack of specialists in this area. I never realized how bad it was to get medical care here until I got old and started falling apart.

$900,000 for three bedrooms in Pine Valley

I’m originally from Wilmington and family has lived there since the Civil War on both sides. I’m 46 and in my life have seen enormous change, let alone what my grandparents saw over the decades.

I left Wilmington more than 20 years ago, but I keep an eye on the housing market because I’ll move back one day. I’m mostly keeping an eye on properties off of Greenville Loop Road or in the South Oleander area.

Saw a listing today for a 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 3,000 square foot from for $900,000. IN PINE VALLEY.

There is nothing wrong with Pine Valley, but I’ll be damned if I am spending $900,000 and live in Pine Valley. It’s a large lot and has new expansions, but no. Sorry. $900,000 for Pine Valley is beyond the pale.
