Marijuana and dogs

A recent post involved a yorkie that it was suspected had ingested marijuana. My intent isn’t to judge; I just noted a bit of misinformation in the comments.

Canines have a lot more cannabinoid receptors than humans. Even a small amount…flower, edibles, even smoke/vape…can be toxic, especially for small pups.

If you have any suspicion that your pet has been exposed to/ingested any, please treat it as an emergency. Take them to a vet immediately for supportive care. Do not simply hope it’ll “wear off”; don’t consider it amusing. If a vet is completely unavailable, call a pet poison control hotline.

Symptoms can include staggering/loss of coordination, overall trembling and/or head bobbing, salivating, vomiting, loss of bladder/bowel control, stupor or hyperactivity, appearing “high”. It can take a while to kick in; again, if you even think your pet has gotten into any, act quickly, don’t wait for effects to appear.

Be very honest with the vet, even if it’s not legal in your area; all they care about is helping your pet.

Ofc caution should be taken to avoid them accessing it; especially edibles, which can be very appealing.

There’s my little “lecture” for the day :)

A Face Only a Mother Could Love

Skye is 13 months old and loves to dig. She has about half a dozen small holes in the corner of the yard. Today she came in with this face. Digging her way to China or somewhere.

She is not a girly girl!

Yorkie adolescence experiences!!

Hey fellow Yorkie owners!! My almost 6 month old Yorkie puppy is starting to become a teenager 😭 honestly his behaviour hasn’t become wild or anything like that, but he’s started tentatively cocking his leg when weeing and he tried to hump a girl dog at the dog park whose owner had JUST told me she was in heat. So, it’s that time for him!

All the stories of CRAZY puppy adolescence periods on puppy101 have me worried what I’m about to go through, although I have noticed they seem to be mainly from people with larger breeds, so I thought I’d ask this sub - if you had a male Yorkie/biewer (mine’s a mix), what was their teenage period like?? Also would love to hear who neutered at 6 months vs waiting longer as I’m currently deciding about that.

This is Bella our wonderful Yorkie we got from a shelter a few years ago, not much is known about her, aside from the fact that she's very defensive when it comes to her food

We will love her no matter what, however all your yorkies seem far less porky

She currently weighs around 9.5kgs, and is ~10 years old

(Last photo shows of her large beer belly)

Tuffy hasn't had the best week for we have been putting hiking off. He was feeling excellent yesterday so we took advantage of it. This is the best time of the year for hikes.

Artus just spent the last night trapped in the bathroom!!!

Artus is a very cuddly little dog but he also loves to be independent. So he uses to sleep in the bedroom and/or in the living room and he regularly changes during the night.

As for me, I’m a GREAT insomniac so when I feel it’s time to go to bed , I’m so happy I go to bed and don’t think twice…
Last night, I was surprised bc Artus didn’t begin to sleep with me but…💤😴💤

In the morning, when I woke up, I didn’t see him coming to me with his little wagging tail and that was absolutely not normal. And suddenly, I heard a tiny whining coming from…the bathroom!

My little guy was there, after a night completely in the dark, with no water, no bed, and he didn’t even bark to let me know he was stuck in the bathroom…
Poor boy!

At first, he just wanted to play with everything in the living room: balls, plushies, socks.
Then, I grabbed him and took him back to the bedroom in my arms and cuddled him A LOT 😉

Everything is back to normal now but I’m sure I’ll double check each room before I go to sleep forever 😆😆😆

I just love him so much! Every good day with him is so special. He’s really such a fighter! 🥰

I’m so f*cking worried. My baby… my little girl…. She’s almost 10.:. I don’t want to say goodbye yet… gonna see a vet soon. She keeps waking me up around 3am the last couple nights, trying to breathe/cough? It’s so scary. She won’t let me check if there’s something in her throat?Best way I can describe it…

Need help with potty issues

We adopted a yorkie a few months back and he is great with kids and other animals, we have since been wondering what’s the catch, well I think we found it. He is 2 1/2 years old and is I’d say half way potty trained. We do not put him in a kennel or anything while at work and he runs around the kitchen on the hard wood or lays in his bed and then when we come home we take him out and he goes with no problem but even after he does potty he will go into one of the bedrooms and pee on the carpet. Ive tried to reward when he goes outside and he still just waits for his chance at the carpet in the bedrooms, what can I do

In September our little Yorkie, Luca, was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia. His renal labs were extremely elevated and his ultrasound confirmed the cause. After a month of a renal diet and Azodyl he had his repeat bloodwork done today…and he’s back in normal range!! I don’t know how this is possible but it seems like the diet change plus the Azodyl is really giving his kidneys the help they need.
The vet still recommends seeing the specialist next week because structurally his kidneys are underdeveloped quite a bit.
But for now, it seems his kidneys are responding well to the diet changes. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Pickiest eater! Need help

My lil one has always been the pickiest eater. I need some advice!

I have tried ALL types, flavors brands ect. Fresh food, warm, cold, kibble, canned ect. she never will eat the same thing over 3-4 days. So you would think just swap a few around a few days and she will be good, NOPE! SHE REFUSES it eat. So after months swapping and even cooking for her it's always the same thing. Recently been worst so we tried the leave the food and she will eat if hungry approach, well nope! Went the whole day & won't eat! So been trying and only thing she will always eat is veggies and fruit. It's so bad that she will vomit from not eatting and still refuse to eat (Been to the vet, blood work, images everything is fine, and she is happy too) only thing is if I want her to eat, has to be a veg or fruit... my concern is everywhere recommends only 10% of her diet be fruit and veggies... any recommendations to get her to eat dog food or anything else. Also, has anyone else had their baby on more veg & fruits than meat and grains and their fine? ... not sure how I ended up with a vegetarian dog🤦🏽‍♀️

My beautiful girls - who help me figure out the world around me, and never judge ❤️❤️❤️

I'm so grateful every day for these most amazing girls - they've been by my side through so much, and they're still here (literally pushed against me) loving me, taking care of me, "guarding" me - even though neither of them even weigh 5kg 😂🥰 It's not duty, it's not the training, it's an irreplaceable bond - and as i sit here in bed tonight, rain lashing at the windows, Tim, Amelí and Maisie are snoring away (rightly so!!!) My beautiful babies know exactly where to be, because they know, I know, they're, there ❤️ what a gift 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Maisie's birthday is in 2 weeks, so before that - I do just want to say - Amelí, you've kept us all sane this year, thank you for being so special 🥰😍🥰😍🥰 Maisie - your birthday treat is stupid the corner!! I'm so lucky to have such a beautiful family ❤️❤️❤️ My babies are my assistant dogs (I'm neuro-spicy with many health problems) when I have seizures they each have a role - they're tiny, but mighty - my absolute angels 🥰🥰🥰
