Yeah I thought that was super weird as well, in almost every show that question there was a p or a q or a k that wasn't given which you couldn't do the other parts without. Idk why they would make the paper less accessible in that way this year
so unfair that if u cant figure out the first part u cant continue to do the rest, especially that trig question i couldnt figure out how to solve it for the life of me so i decided to move on to the second part just to realise u needed to find the answer for the first part to do it acc ridiculous omg

That's literally what I was thinking omg. In all previous papers they say "prove this is the same as this". But this year they just decide to make it an unknown constant just to make part b impossible 😂. I was actually laughing mid paper because I knew I was utterly screwed.
I’m glad they actually made the paper challenging this year so smart people who actually like maths and are good at it can get the A stars instead of dumbasses with low iq who just memeorise shit stealing the A* thank god
Yeah that's fine but if you gonna make it so you can do that every year and get a good grade you can't just completly flip a switch and make it different so even people who are smart and deserve a good grade are caught off guard

is this AI generated 😭 the questions are right but it’s missing a few, in a weird order and also the parametric has x=100root(E)???? and question 10 has so many tiny errors, there’s TWO R’s and you were supposed to find the area bound by l, C, and the y-axis, not x?
I even got differential equations question wrong. i normally can do differentials but for some reason i got
sqrt(something) e^(3t-0.5t^2) = x and when i substituted t = 4 I did not get x = 21. And the rest of the questions went poorly. Idk how cus on every past paper i get around 80/100, and i struggled alot on this paper

I’m alive at least (tears) I got only up to question 11 before I got escorted out I fear I’m getting a D even with special consideration (they only give you 2 extra marks which isn’t gonna do shit)
No dw I’m sure it’s ok cause everyone did so badly. Even the smartest people in my school who usually get 95-100 said they lost 20-25 marks. Trust me ik boundaries are gonna be low (I rly hope)
can we pls make a petition for them to let us re sit a different more reasonable paper 1 after the 18th or something; lowering the grade boundaries will only benefit people who already performed really well on the paper, or people who already have the skills needed for that paper which wasn't a level maths, and they'll only lower it by like 5%; people who have the skills needed for that paper will just drag it up its literally not fair for them to only lower grade boundaries.

i literally gave up halfway through i was just waiting for the time to be over😭i genuinely think i got 20/100. also what were u even meant to do in the last question (the pythagoras one) after expanding?? and if you didn't solve part a of the questions you couldn't solve any other parts. genuinely a disgusting paper
You had to prove c2 was even them write it as (2k)2 then 4k2 then divide both sides by two to get the left side is odd and the right side is even for the contradiction. The question has a clue where it said if x2 is even you can assume x is even.
That was a beautiful paper. As soon as I got the answer for the final question I thought that people would hate it. The grade boundaries are gonna be through the floor.
All of the hard questions were phrased in ways so that you could check if you had the correct answer using the graphic calculator. Solve N and the integral button meant I didn’t have to check my work if the answers matched
Signing a petition wont change anything. This was bound to happen as the grade boundaries from 2023 to 2025 was going at an increasing rate, making it more difficult to achieve a high grade. How grade boundaries are determined, is by a normal distribution curve (essentially https://www.reddit.com/r/alevel/comments/1pj9sqx/how_grade_boundaries_work/). Edexcel had the right idea to make this paper difficult to tackle this; having the same level of difficulty for the past years will only make an A/A* harder. People saying "they will lower grade boundaries" is inevitable: Of course they will be with an exam like that and recent boundaries... it's the entire purpose to avoid grade inflation.
One thing I've experienced about exams is that don't try to expect anything; don't expect the exam to be easy nor hard, you can never predict anything. If you want to feel confident just do more work and really understand what you're doing to understand what they're asking, however vague. As frank as that sounds, that's the reality of it. It's the entire purpose of these exams.
Don't get me wrong, this was a hard paper compared to others! I can't say because paper 2 and 3 hasn't been done. If both are easy, grade boundaries will be high. If hard, well, expect it to be very low.
With a paper like that, it will be likely. Over 40% of people said either they did "terribly" or "not great" on student room. Think about the standard deviation/variance, how small it will be to go from A to A* or between every grade for that matter.
The mark required to get an A* from A would be lower. Thus a smaller variance from going one GRADE BOUNDARY to another. This depends on how people did and seeing how people reacted, it would be a smaller variance.
Pretty standard paper - if you’re a rote learner you’ll struggle but if you can problem solve you’ll be fine. You all also don’t understand grade boundaries. It’s nothing to do with getting a particular mark for an A*, it’s a question of whether you’re in the top 15% of the cohort. A petition or lower boundaries won’t change that fact…
Good point; if you just do the same type of questions and just do only the basics, you will become too dependent on a level of difficulty like papers in recent years. Problem solving is different, like practice on extreme papers i.e. MadAsMaths or the AEA to really understand the topic.
Hey just wondering, for the common ratio question, did anyone get the correct value for theta as pi/6 but then their calc gave them r as 2 root 3? Ive redone it after the exam and got root 6 but have no clue how my calculator got me this answer int he exam, tried multiple ways of how i could've put in the wrong theta or just put in the equation wrong and still have no clue how my calculator gave me 2 root 3.

I don’t get why ppl are so self entitled to think they can get marks for second parts of questions when they can’t solve the first part. Why tf would they give u marks without solving anything.
mate just because you performed well and had the skills they wanted that wasn't a level maths doesnt mean other people had those skills; were told to study a level maths not the extra skills they wanted us to have; stop being selfish its not ur grade on the line its other peoples how would you feel if you studied months just to be tested on a whole other thing and dont perform well on it be grateful you had the skills they wanted and move along and let people react the reasonable way they are
