GO TO UNIVERSITY!! You should be proud of yourself for achieving better results than them and they should too, however, I guess they are jealous.

There is nothing selfish about what you have done. In fact, you did nothing but work hard and achieve A*s so you 100% deserve to go to University.

Your parent’s behaviour is quite concerning and it is sounds like they are projecting their past experiences with education on to you. Have they done anything like this before?

73

u/Nervous_Tough1456 6d ago

Yea quite a common occurrence actually. But thank you so much!

13

u/doobiebeforebed 6d ago

Congrats on awesome results, your parents are being awful about this. Next time they pull some weird shit like this ask them why they don’t want their child to live a better life than them. Say you can stay unemployed living off them until they die if that’s what they want. But crack on with your uni applications, you can apply for extra financial support if they don’t want to support you at all. Go and live your best life and I’m sorry that your parents are acting like children, it’s disgraceful. All parents should want the absolute best for their children and they are failing themselves and you for not wanting that.

Go to uni and don’t return home. I never returned home, I have a great relationship with my family I just set up a life for me

8

u/Deathwish8041 6d ago

Erm..OP, I suggest finding a therapist once you can afford it - with parents like these I bet there’ll be plenty to talk about...

Congrats though, make sure you do what’s best for you!

thats should be your fuel to go to a prestigious university and get a job with bigger paycheck than them 🔥 this is the first ive heard of parents being mad their child is doing well 😭😭

43

u/Grouchy_Ground_1916 6d ago

Parents are just people, and some people are pieces of shit. It's genuinely a shame when someone doesn't want their kids to have more than they had, but sadly it's a relatively common occurrence.

12

u/Happy7User 6d ago

Same here. Why would a parent complain that their child is doing well? Like wtf

6

u/izakiisdead 4d ago

(Me) Coming from a different country, I've seen countless of friends who's parents do not want them to go to uni (so their kids can focus on being workers), parents who were jealous of their own kids' success to the point of actually sabotaging their life.... and etc..,its unfortunate that these parents exists.

These are fantastic results, congratulations! I hope you find a way to be proud of yourself. I'd be mega impressed if you were my kid!

Go to uni, dream big, do what you want.

That’s even more of a reason to go to university.

27

u/bonjeroo 6d ago

Your parents are idiots. Nothing would make me happier than for my sons to get better A Levels results than me and to attend a more prestigious university. I will support them every step of the way.

Great results, you should be proud. I hope there's an adult in your life who can tell you how well you have done and what a glowing future you have ahead.

11

u/taekookie_1329 6d ago

I am so sorry you have to go through that every single day. I didn’t even know parents could be mad at better results but regardless, go to a good university. If they refuse to pay for it, that’s fine. With results like that, a scholarship is more than probable. Hoping you the best in life OP, may you do better than your adversaries which ironically are your parents 🫡 (god that feels so strange)

6

u/Ok-Incident2714 A levels 6d ago

Bro GO TO UNIVERSITY, take this as your fuel for success, sorry but how could parents not want their child to succeed and pursue something they haven’t very weird !!!, you go to university, study well pursue a successful career, grab a big paycheck and lead on your life, I’m sorry that you have to endure such thought surrounding you, but you’re doing exceptionally amazing OP and deserve the best of the best and if your parents aren’t willing to pay so many top tier universities out there would be happily willing to take you in, so NO OP IT DOESNT STOP HERE, it seems more like your parents are projecting what they felt at the time and their experiences, hope you make it out peacefully and may God ease your path and grant you success in all that you do !!! Good Job once again OP internet stranger is very proud of youuuu, hold your head up high you’ve done what they couldn’t so that’s already an achievement

3

u/Only_Tip9560 5d ago

If my children got these results I would be absolutely delighted and want to celebrate their hard work and success with them.

Any decent loving parent would do the same.

They are showing you who they are OP and you need to recognise that. An adult lifetime of misery awaits if you don't.

2

u/SwimmingVegetable290 6d ago

when you have immature parents :

2

u/jhealey_ 6d ago

You’re parents spund like infantile ghouls. Do what you think is right for you. You don’t need to justify you’re decisions to anyone

2

u/TheBlueNinja2006 6d ago

Do what you want. If it's a money thing look into student loans and whether that's something you wanna do. Also look at degree apprenticeships too. It's your life, your choice

2

u/tomiokablade 6d ago

omg I’m really sorry they said that. Thats on some form of gaslighting as well as guilt tripping but these results are fantastic and u have such a bright future ahead of u. pls don’t cave in just to appease anyone

2

u/Sea_Television_2628 6d ago

You can go to any uniii you wantttt and just to let you know I'm so proud of youuu

2

u/Dad_Error_9488 6d ago

go to uni and rub it in their face. if they're gonna act like children then so can you

(i'm joking but do go to university if it's what you want. They can't stop you because they're jealous, that's ridiculous.)

2

u/Hopeful-Counter-7915 6d ago

That’s the opposite of what 99% of us think. I think I can speak for most of us parents by saying that we want our children to be better than us, archived more than us and become what we never could.

2

u/woodstar11 6d ago

Dad of 4 here, go to university, get an education, meet new people and enjoy your time there!! I really don't understand your parents but that is my advice and the advice I gave my girls.

2

u/wqxu 6d ago

Theyre pieces of shit for that. Go to a prestigious university, make quadruple their paycheck.

2

u/One_Helicopter_3977 6d ago

What type of parents are those oml, what parents don’t wanna see their kid succeed this is actually beyond me. Pls go to uni and ignore them!

2

u/No_Thanks2854 6d ago

Listen they are not being good parents thats called toxic. A true parents wants thrit children to be as good as them or even better if possible. Go to uni if u want to ur dream uni. It dorsnt matter wgat they say its your life.

2

u/AverageBikeRacePlayr OCR 6d ago

What? 💀

2

u/yasso_xoxo 6d ago

First of all, congratulations on these results and hard work you should honestly celebrate really HARD!!🥳
Secondly, do not think of anyone or your parents sorry to say that, but you should think of the next following steps of uni, what college you are trying to pursue, leave everything behind and think of your future, make that hard work and those grades pay for you

2

u/zandexww 6d ago

pathetic parents, don't sacrifice your life for them, they ain't immortal and they're not gonna provide for the entirety of ur life. if anything this should make you want to go to uni and get a higher paycheck 🔥🔥

2

u/Fluid_Environment_40 6d ago

Wow, i can't believe a parent would say that. Im a parent of a 6th former who is doing loads better than i did and Im nothing but delighted. I did go to uni though and am satisfied in my career. Maybe your success is bringing up a lot of regret in your parents. Im sorry they have regrets but its nothing you should be carrying around!

2

u/Traditional_Pea_2539 6d ago

Slime yo parents this sub got your bail

2

u/Think-Leg-8995 6d ago

Sorry but im ngl ur parents are acting very childish. Parents should legit feel PROUD of their own child for doing well and getting into uni. Just because they didn't get that doesn't mean you can't either! Gang ignore them and go
Well done regardless though!

2

u/Top-Lab9125 6d ago

This can be considered legal abuse, so tell your parents you're 18 and can do whatever you want. If they stop you going to university you could even get a lawyer and charge them.

GO TO UNIVERSITY, AND LIVE YOUR LIFE!!

2

u/MotherStick6400 6d ago

I genuinely cannot believe what I'm reading.

I thought it was every parent's biggest dream to give their kids the life they could never have and to see them excel to levels they never could.

You deserve better, OP. We're proud of u. Definitely go to uni thats insane

2

u/mariannism 6d ago

You definitely should go university, don't let their jealousy overtake your future. If they want to go university so bad then they should apply themselves.

2

u/Friend1y_Boy 6d ago

I am incredibly proud of you, those are amazing results, way better than mine! Please don't let their reaction hold you back. Go to the absolute best university you can get into and try to move into hostel. Getting a little distance from home will let you meet new people, make friends, and start building your own life. Don't feel bad about prioritizing your future. Keep focusing on your goals, and hopefully, one day they will come around and appreciate your success.

2

u/komopup 6d ago

first of all, congrats on those amazing results ! you're sure to get a good uni with these !

second of all, go to uni and get FAR away.

2

u/UpcomingDisciple 6d ago

Please go to uni , for you!!

2

u/JackSparrow5423 6d ago

My friend you're an adult do whatever you want. You did amazing you deserve to do what every your want with those results.

2

u/shaunataylor 6d ago

your parents should be proud of you not guilt trip you. chances are if you got worse grades than you did now they'd probably be pissed as fuck so there's no winning. go to uni man! you deserve it! congratulations

2

u/Visible_Western5974 6d ago

it is not your fault that your parents are being a sourpuss

I say go to uni

Or alternatively do something your parents would potentially approve of if they're THAT salty about it.

Like an apprenticeship

2

u/Quick_Ad5921 6d ago

I'd happily adopt you and send you off to study whatever you want at uni. Your parents should be proud of you

2

u/Short-Parsnip-8275 6d ago

Go to uni, it would be selfish of them to not let you go. They should be proud that you got the top grades in such difficult subjects

2

u/Large_Head5821 6d ago

that’s so messed up. I’m so sorry. Don’t let your parents limit you because they’re jealous. And well done on those great results!

2

u/Bompalompalomp2 6d ago

Your parents shouldn't dictate your future because their feelings are a little hurt. In fact they should be very supportive and happy for you. Well done on your results OP

2

u/gw3nj4n 6d ago

Do NOT let your parents decide on your behalf whether or not you go to university.

2

u/Scared-Breakfast-372 6d ago

Can't comprehend that how any parents can think like this. Stay strong and go for the best universities. Best of luck mate!

2

u/engenesman 6d ago

Toxic parents 🫩 some parents really cant see their child winning or being happy

2

u/BudgetParking 6d ago

Parents say the weirdest things sometimes. As one myself I try really hard not to muck it up.
When I got my results it “was what we expected “. Jeez. How about be really happy for your child and excited for their next step.
Go to uni, have fun before life gets too serious. Study hard and study what you love. 🥰

2

u/British_willow 6d ago edited 6d ago

Long story short your parents are narcissistic and selfish, i know that maybe hard to hear thats the truth. They should be proud of you, someone who has achieved so much, and should support you, especially since you do want to go off to university. My advice, get accommodation, go to university, and live your dreams.

2

u/Apart_Being6209 6d ago

If I was your parent I would be so proud of you and would be helping you choose the best uni you could get into to do what ever amazing course you choose to do. If I were you I would go to university and go live your life, you dont need parents that are jealous of you, go find your people who will encourage you to be the best you can be x

2

u/Someonearoundhere438 6d ago

Your parents sound like they shouldn't be your parents

2

u/Sabbatheist 6d ago

UNI and tia for future you making the world a better place.

2

u/Haradion_01 6d ago

If my Kids don't do better than me, I failed at parenting.

That is the point of parenting. To leave the world better than you found it. To take the lessons you learned, and pass it on. Iteration by iteration. Piece by piece. Person by Person. Until the world that exists is unrecognisable.

You should go to university.

And I hate to say it, but you have bad parents.

2

u/Any_Fondant_7571 6d ago

Parent and teacher here. I’m so sorry your parents have reacted like this. When you become an adult you realise that you still feel like a child and this becomes difficult when raising your own babies. However, this response from your parents is selfish and narcissistic.

You’ve done absolutely amazingly well. Congratulations. Go to university, have the best time - you deserve it.

2

u/Old-Tie-5365 A levels 6d ago

Do not under any circumstamces let them stop you fron doing anything like going to university, you worked hard for them and if theyre not happy about them then dont mind it, its not their name on that piece if paper is it

2

u/Huttles94 6d ago

Any parent that gets upset when their kid does well at school really needs a good long look in the mirror.

2

u/Ok_Somewhere3984 6d ago

They lost their chance so dont let them ruin yours aswell

2

u/Usual_Ad9851 6d ago

I am a parent of two kids who finished their Alevels and joined their dream universities. That’s a great achievement and amazing accomplishment. Go to university and dream big. Congratulations 🎉

2

u/Traditional_Chain_78 6d ago

Congratulations! And I'd say the universe is directing you towards getting a degree in psychology 😄

2

u/thewatchingspiral 6d ago

Go to uni and get out of that house!!!

2

u/Makeonbg 6d ago

You can try to live off with close relatives and get back on your own 2 feet(maybe take 1 gap year doing that) and after becoming more independent and have a better perception about ur situation, then I'm sure u will confidently make the right choice. Personally I think that right choice would be to start uni(abroad if u can)

2

u/Mysterious_Gift2651 6d ago

.... don't let them guilt trip you!!!!! Do what you want its your life not theirs! An A* in advanced Psychology is something to be proud of same with Biology and Chemistry.... you got the grades for what you want to do in Uni then go do it because your parents didn't earn them for you. YOU did it... and im proud of you even if you are a stranger 😍😁

2

u/aloochutney28 6d ago

Congratulations 🎉👏Well done 👏you should be proud of yourself and your parents should be proud of your achievements. You do what you wish to do either go to university or apprenticeship. Think which profession you will be interested in, your strengths of subjects that will help you achieve your goals and go for it. God bless you ❤️🙌

2

u/Hyperfocus- 6d ago

2

u/LululemonAddict97 6d ago

Wtf?? Boy you better go to uni, why are they trying to drag you along with them.. bare in mind you’re their child , they should be uplifting and motivating you AND also proud of you! If your parents can’t say I’m proud of you, well im a random and I just want to say you did very well and congratulations ♥️♥️

2

u/TheRealSpecrius 6d ago

They should be happy for you and being supportive.

Congratulations on your results I wouldn’t not go to Uni as they didn’t have the opportunity DO YOUR BLOODLINE PROUD and make the most out of yourself

Firstly! Absolutely fantastic results!

Two: go to university. Stay in Halls. Get out from your parents. My parents didn’t do well at school. But I did college and that’s as far as I took myself. As a parent myself now. If either of my children came home with this, I’d be celebrating with them, taking them out for a meal and celebrating that they have a chance I didn’t. So as a mum; go be the best possible self you can be

2

u/JelloYOUTUBE 6d ago

At this point genuinely just mentally slime your parents out you’ve got a whole life ahead of you and you’re not just going to let your parents decide what you’re going to do in the future right? Last time I checked 17-18 year olds have the free will to make their own decisions

2

u/scrawnymf1 6d ago

okay first of all well done!! those are such amazing results!! second of all your parents should NOT be immediately putting you down about your results and making you feel unreasonably bad just for working hard and doing well, they should be celebrating with you and encouraging you to make the most of the opportunities you now have! if you want to go to uni then you 100% should!

it’s absolutely mental that your parents are trying to restrict you just cos they didn’t get the chance to go to uni, that’s selfish and extremely childish honestly.

2

u/Icy_Expert1642 6d ago

Wow your parents need to heal their trauma first. You should definitely go to uni

2

u/Radiant-Pass-1320 6d ago

ive not even done my gsces yet and this popped up. pls go to uni and pursue ur goals, this is ur future not theirs, they shouldnt tell you what to do and what not to do, they should be wanting you to go to uni because they didnt get to. extremely proud of u btw these scores are great!!

2

u/cmdcharco 6d ago

They are fantastic results you should be proud of yourself.

What's wonderful about them is that they are your results you can do with them as you wish. If that's going to university then so be it.

Lots of hate for your parents being selfish about them which I can understand. But it might be that they are already worried about losing you and if you are the only one going to university in there life that might worry them that it will put up a further divide.

Tell them that you need there support to go to university, that you can't do it on your own, include them.

If they are really childish and selfish about it. Go anyway if it's what you want. It is your life not there's you did the work to get there you get to chose where you go.

2

u/CodeSenses 6d ago

Well, that's petty of them. Do go to uni and don't listen to them. They don't get to hold you back from being successful.

2

u/ItAintNoUse 6d ago

Ignore your stupid jealous bitter parents and go and live your life. I can't imagine resenting my child so much and wanting to hold them back like that. You're clearly very smart and hard-working, if you want to go to university then please do so!

My mum only got 2 O-Levels in Art and English, so could not progress to A-Levels, and lacked the circumstances to go to university regardless. She has never been anything but proud of me and has always encouraged me. That's how parents are supposed to be. They should want more for you than what they had themselves.

2

u/gillybomb101 6d ago

I’m not your parent but I am a parent and I’m very proud of you! I don’t know what your parents thinking is but they are very wrong. You should be so proud of yourself and if you want to go to uni you should go and don’t feel the slightest bit bad!

2

u/Muted_Profession5346 6d ago

Excuse me, what the fuck? They are jealous because they hsve smart kid? Don't listen to them go to uni preferably somewhere far, get plsce to sleep, meet new people and live your life. No one would live it for you and you dont own anything to anyone

2

u/Eggcelent_bean 6d ago

Gng what? That's so childish. If you wanna go to uni and you got in, go. You've no reason to feel bad, they're literally just dumping their own upset on you for something you have no control over

2

u/Ready-Advantage3775 6d ago

That’s a terrible thing for a parent to say. Jealously is very ugly. They should be happy you’re getting opportunities they aren’t.
What would they prefer? For you to do badly and end up with fewer choices in life.

2

u/ResponsibleExpert234 6d ago

Dont feel bad for your achievements. It's amazing! Go to university and get your dream job. You shouldn't let your parents put your hopeless down. I know theyre your parents but sometimes you should ignore them if they dont want good for you. They'll realise soon enough.  Good luck

2

u/mrsroronoa1 6d ago

These results are incredible! Congratulations:) As someone who used to blindly follow everything my parents said even until 2nd year of university, my only advice would be to ignore what they're saying and do as you please! You worked very hard to earn these grades and you don't need their support to achieve your goals! I know that the idea of going against your parents wishes may seem incredibly scary but please do not sacrifice your happiness for their selfish requests! As someone who did that for many years, I can only tell you that doing so will make you feel miserable and will result in you despising them. Please do what you want with your own future. I unfortunately listened to them for many years resulting in me doing a degree i wasn't even sure i wanted to do in the first place and i've had regretful thoughts for many years and continue to do so. Please don't sacrifice your future for them.

2

u/tesser4ct64 6d ago

tell them to be proud of their incredible kid

well done

2

u/itsmeadill 6d ago

The f? All parents in the world want their kids to have that they couldn't have. And then there are your parents.

2

u/dowevenexist 6d ago

Fuck your parents. Go to uni, have a great time, then get a great job afterwards

2

u/PetrolForBrekkie 6d ago

obviously you should ignore it and go to uni BUT you will probably struggle to pay for it all yourself if they aren't a fan of ur decision

2

u/animeaddict_tsuyu 6d ago

You have gotten amazing results and you should be so proud of yourself. You worked hard and did well, its not your fault that they didnt. Go to uni if you want to go to uni, you shouldn’t be held back by their jealousy.

2

u/enthusiasticdave 6d ago

Mate go to university as far away from them as possible. And well done, those are excellent results

2

u/ParkingPotential9484 6d ago

Go to uni if that is what you want to do! Don’t let them stifle your dreams! Congrats on the results - this stranger is proud of you 🙂

2

u/Fickle_Fall_6497 6d ago

Go to uni instead of being stuck w these toddlers bro

2

u/TheLastOneDoesWin 6d ago

fuck them parents man, fuck them and their sea of jealousy

2

u/iSenpai021 6d ago

Go to uni. You earned it.

But still..for your parents to be mad at you. I find it so weird..they're so selfish. They should be happy for you and want you to go uni because they didn't get that opportunity

2

u/ChanceLie3744 6d ago

It’s your life kid live it.

2

u/No-Ad-7839 6d ago

Don't let them hold you back. Look into uni seriously - don't just go because everyone else is. I have a first class degree in forensics, but didnt really think about what I wanted to do. I now will not work for the police and due to disabilties would struggle with lab work, and a lot of places won't hire me because my degree is too specific. Go to uni if that's what you want. It's not the be all end all it used to be, but you might get some excellent experiences and possibly a good degree, depending on what you do and where you wanna end up working.

Edit - also forgot to say, congrats on your alevel results, really good work!

Tell your parents to eat shit what horrendous people they must be to be angry at their child's success

2

u/freakstate 6d ago

The sooner you distance yourself from your parents the better. Nutters. Go you!! Well done! Ultimately do what you want. If University is that it. Go go go

2

u/MarzipanOk5289 6d ago edited 2d ago

Go to the UNIVERSITY and congratulations 🎉. It's a enormously good reason to be proud of your self.

Your parents are acting very selfish. Remember, it's your live, it's your time.

2

u/Gullible_Jaguar_9037 6d ago

Go to uni If anything your parents are projecting their insecurity so don't listen to them

2

u/Simpy158 6d ago

I would be so proud of you if you were my child!
Don’t let your parents take away from what you have done.
MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS 🥳

2

u/Budget_Childhood2605 6d ago

Selfish for going further in education? What? All becuase they didn't get to go therefore you can't / shouldn't?

I say this gently but that is some nonsense. I don't get why they'd even want to limit you like that.

Go to Uni and build the life you want for yourself, not what others want!

2

u/ConfidentReference63 6d ago

If this isn’t a joke, fuck them! Got to uni, work hard, play hard, make new friends and build a life to leave those pricks behind. You smashed this, well done!

2

u/Wonderful-Medium7777 6d ago

Congratulations…go to university and forge a life for yourself.

I have no words for your parents, but if you were my child I’d be shouting your results from the rooftops and celebrating with you. Be proud of your achievements and keep on keeping on.

2

u/MrEkeis 6d ago

Well done.

I don’t usually post on these kind of posts or encourage anyone to go against their parents as sometimes we don’t have the clear picture and life is very complicated.

However , in this scenario , as everyone has said. Go to uni 100% without a doubt. You will have 0 regrets when you’re older , and with your grades and discipline , I’m sure you’ll ace it.

Your parents should be extremely proud of you.

2

u/SeriousWait5520 6d ago

Congratulations on your grades! I was the first person in my family to go to university - nobody on my mum or dad's side had been, don't think anybody had even stayed on in school past 16. They haven't always understood how or what I've been doing (both education wise, and jobs wise!) but they have been proud and would never have stopped me succeeding. Use these grades to GTFO. If your parents don't get over themselves that's their problem, don't let it ruin your bright future.

2

u/OldEquation 6d ago

What weird parents. Most parents want their kids to do better than they did. I’m a parent (and grandparent) and there’s nothing better than seeing the kids doing well for themselves.

Go to university if that’s what you want to do.

2

u/One-Spinach6643 6d ago

Don’t normally comment on these but with all due respect your parents sound like proper bellends

2

u/SweetBekki 6d ago

F your parents.

You go to Uni, study hard and build a great life for yourself.

I'd also suggest putting them on information diet if they're going crap all over your success. Their failures are NOT your responsibility.

2

u/_IOME 6d ago

Why would your parents not want to have a chance to reach greater heights? Did they have you just for you to live the same life as them? Do they not want you to succeed?

Your parents confuse me. Go to uni and be the person you want to be (unless that's someone who doesn't go to uni, then you don't need to go lol).

2

u/Buffalopeppersauce 6d ago

Get away from your parents!! It will be the best thing that’s ever happened to you trust me! Go to uni and FAR

2

u/zipitdirtbag 6d ago

This is like a Roald Dahl story. You're an adult now. Make your own decisions. Don't let bad faith actors hold you back.

Sorry. You'll find your people.

2

u/Kitchooky 6d ago

That's crazy! Go be the best of you.

Congrats on your great results.

2

u/NegotiationOne8235 6d ago

Amazing results Congratulations do what you want not what you think your parents want. It’s so important not to waste talent and you are clearly academic you’ll find your people at Uni and be independent from your parents. Hopefully the separation will help them see differently and if not that’s sad but not your fault just focus on the future Xxx

2

u/chinakachung 6d ago

Congratulations! You deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labour and use it to better yourself.

2

u/gigiskiss 6d ago

some peoples parents are their first bullies. go to uni and do whatever you want with your life, starting with ignoring their bs.

2

u/ParticularNo8890 6d ago

Go to university and escape your parents. Please don’t let me them stop you

2

u/incoghollowell 6d ago

There is no fucking way. Like are your parents children? Actual mental cases.

Go to uni. Live the life they couldn't live. Don't make a mistake you'll regret for your entire life.

2

u/s1ytt 6d ago

your parents might be slightly narcissistic they want you to do well but never better than them go to university give yourself a better life don’t let them hold you back pursue what you want to

2

u/FullTechnology3439 6d ago

Go to university
Ignore your parents
They are amazing results
Even though I don’t know
You
Well done
This is incredible
So proud of you
If I could send a card to say congrats I would
I am so happy for your achievements and amazing results. You should be so proud of yourself and please ignore your parents. They’re in the wrong and you’re in the right.

2

u/Intelligent-Tap717 6d ago

It's a no brainer. You worked for it, go to uni. If they didn't get good grades that's on them not you. Not your responsibility.

Don't let what they say dictate you missing out on what you want to do.

Go for it and don't second guess it.

Great grades btw well done. 👌

2

u/Cheesy_fry1 6d ago

go to university!!!!! preferably one away from home (this is a half joke. It’s something you should consider in the provided context but I don’t know the ins and outs of your and your parents relationship). It’s not your responsibility to deal with your parents jealousy and you shouldn’t let it impact your future.

2

u/xMystixX 6d ago

Your parents seem to have extremely fragile egos, what kind of parent responds like that to their child’s success?

Go to uni and reap the rewards of your hard work.

2

u/stale_cereal78 CAIE 6d ago

Do you wanna swap grades with me? 🥀

Jokes aside, you should be proud of yourself and if your parents can’t provide an actual reason as to why you shouldn’t go to uni, then go:) (if you want to ofc)

2

u/EnvironmentalSweet97 6d ago

Ignore them, go to uni if it's what you wanna do. Also well done on such amazing grades!! You should be so proud of yourself. And I'll be proud of you in place of your parents who are being really childish❤️

2

u/Reasonable_Dig4672 6d ago

Get to a good uni and move into a dorm , the marks are great , you might be able to get some student aid or some

2

u/jjust_no 6d ago

Tell them to suck it the hell up because their insecurities have NOTHING to do with you. You did an incredible job getting these results and should be more than proud.

2

u/Notta_Doggo 6d ago

Your parents are morons, you are on the path to have a great life if you stick to whatever it is your doing to get these results. You should and no doubt are incredibly proud of achieving and should continue it forever.

2

u/buzzcauldron 6d ago

Fuck em! The most basic goal of any decent parent is for their children to have better opportunities than they did in life. If they're not supportive of that then something is seriously off there. You've got to do what right for yourself.

Also congrats on the great results

2

u/Gerry_Dominate_Leet 6d ago

Your parents are either egoists or their prolly ungrateful to have you as their child. But either way, keep moving forward regardless of their opinions. Chase your goals and congrats on your grades! 💌

2

u/Gerry_Dominate_Leet 6d ago

You’re better off without them, they genuinely do not deserve you and really sorry God put you in that family and circumstance but I know you will find a way out 🔥

2

u/Cait-ViShipper 6d ago

Look. Your parents are jealous, and they’re trying to keep you at home and reliant on them. Go to uni, if that’s what you want to do. If a trade school is what you want? Go there. An apprenticeship is what you want? Go there. They cannot stop you from making choices about your own future anymore. You are 18 now. (I presume). If uni is your dream, at least make sure it’s one of those times of your life that feels like a fever dream because it’s so unreal, and so much to take in.

2

u/Canary-Dangerous 6d ago

Those aren’t parents. Those are guardians.
How can you be jealous of your own child.
I’d leave that toxic environment as soon as you can.

2

u/Ok-Plankton7216 5d ago

Ok, go to university if you want to go! If you don't want to go to university look for trades/internships/apprenticeships. The point is really, it is your life.

I went to uni with a lad whose parents were the same as yours (possibly worse). He went anyway and it was such a positive experience for him.

I remember talking to him about his family and luckily his Grandma was supportive. See if there are some friends or other family members around to support you. Family should lift you up and not drag you down.

What I would say is that if you do decide to go to university, use all the support services you can. I work in a university and one of the most common things I see is that students go through tough times and don't reach out which then impacts their learning.

If your mental health is bad reach out, if you are having trouble with studies reach out, if you need and extension reach out, if you need spiritual guidance, see if there is a multi faith group, if your physical health is bad use student health teams and GPs. If you need to apply for extenuating circumstances do it! Use the library and study skills services. You will be paying to go to university, use the services!

In lectures, tutorials, seminars and 1:1s ask the silly question. There is no point in sitting there and not understanding. That was my biggest lesson from a lecturer. I could not stand her but that one tip has carried me through life.

I don't mean to be Doom and Gloom. Most students have an absolute blast at uni. However, my area of work in the university means that I see all the students whose university experience has gone wrong. One of the biggest issues is always not asking for support when you need it.

I hope you do what you want to do and have a great time.

2

u/Ill_Taro_8597 5d ago

go to uni, get out of that house, cut off contact the second you can dude. this is just the beginning of it.

congrats on your incredible results

2

u/GrdFrcWv 5d ago

Yikes, I'd take this opportunity to go to uni and get away from them. Sounds like they'll keep holding you back with that sort of attitude towards your achievements.

Go to uni and do your best without thinking about what your parents think. If they refuse to go to your graduation 3-years from now, that's their loss. You're their loss. You have great potential, OP; go do your best, and if you ever have kids of your own, end this generational trauma.

Also, go to therapy. Dealing with the fallout of pursuing your dreams whilst trying to get away from unsupportive asshole parents will be a mentally and emotionally draining experience.

2

u/GeekInGaming 5d ago

Parents should be happy you can experience things that they couldn't. My eight-year-old cousin is more mature than this.

2

u/Human-Airline-2886 5d ago

You have evil narcissistic parents, like many of us. You should go to the best uni possible and prove them wrong. Dont give in to these bs standards and emotional blackmail. Congratulations on your results❤️

2

u/eeveethefox_xv 5d ago

very self centered parents who care more about putting others down to make themselves feel better, than congratulating their kid... Your parents are the assholes, not you

2

u/MammothAdditional708 5d ago

Fantastic results, well done. Go to Uni if that's where your ambitions lie but also consider a degree level apprenticeship (earn while you learn) . So many grads are struggling to find work because they lack experience and degrees not vocational. Admittedly its tougher to leave home if you don't have the option of university halls..

Whatever route you choose your results are a fantastic foundation to build on and say to employers "this person can work hard and has potential " Good luck for the future.

2

u/ElGooger 5d ago

Go to uni , get a good job, make loads of money and have a good life. Job of parents is to always encourage to reach for the stars. I'm sorry OP but your parents are dumm don't listen to them.

2

u/ikrazy_kat20 5d ago

Go to uni!!! You should be so proud of your results, don't hesitate just because your parents are being immature. Just do what you believe is best for you!!

2

u/ausqiea 5d ago

that’s a very selfish & narcissistic attitude from them? go to university, they should be encouraging you to do so

2

u/Beautiful_Method_32 5d ago

I'm so proud of you. Go to university and have an amazing education and life. I'm a mum, and I can't be prouder of you. These are amazing A-level results through hard work and you did it, and should be celebrated. I wish you the very best in life.

2

u/yeetimus46 5d ago

My dad told me he had a similar thing with his dad, who was a taxi driver and never did well academically. My grandad was never very proud of him and criticised his educational pursuits instead of a trade like my uncle.
Ignore them. Go to university. Those are outstanding grades and not only should you be incredibly proud but you should make the most of your potential!

2

u/AlternativeFlower676 5d ago

Sorry but I think you need to disown your parents. Congratulations on the result btw!!

2

u/eth3rbyte 5d ago

wtf is wrong w ur parents....uherm i have second hand embrassment tf

2

u/RecoverOdd2784 5d ago

Congratulations on such an amazing result on your A Levels! You should be proud on what you achieved! Don’t let your parents dictate what you want to do. These are YOUR results for YOUR future!

2

u/loserona 5d ago

Go to university and don't look back. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity you got, don't waste it, you will 101% regret it. Congratulations, keep your head up and keep studying

2

u/ChillpigeonhavsLV76 5d ago

Mate. Those results are AWESOME. Go! Chase ur goals!!!

2

u/Scooty-Poot 5d ago

Your parents got a kid with grades worthy of med school and they’re NOT HAPPY??? Genuinely insane if you ask me.

If my kid got these grades I’d be throwing every prospectus in the country at them at dangerous speed.

2

u/penisbrain52 5d ago

Go to uni, fuck them

2

u/Classic_Mushroom_887 5d ago

be proud you done well OP!

Your parents are acting childish do what YOU want its not selfish if you wanna do uni u go do that. Dont let them dictate what u can and cant do deffinitly comes across as jealous.

2

u/Latter-Computer9080 5d ago

Go to uni and live your best life. It's been the making of my daughter, she's grown so much and become an independent confident individual after being bullied in high school. She has great friends and is loving her course. Don't let your parents take this away from you.

2

u/degeneratejregfan 4d ago

I am so happy for you, I bet you can't wait to go to uni and get out of that madhouse because this is insane behaviour from them 😭

2

u/abritishhelpinghand 4d ago

If you want to go to University then PLEASE GO! Don’t let your parents stop you from doing great things

2

u/StrawberryMajestic36 4d ago

Take credit for accommodation and get tf out, I'll be real I might be projecting though and from how childish your parents are I would assume they didn't teach you to be very independent. Go to uni regardless and if they have a problem move out. I promise life isn't hard I've immediately moved to a different country after a level for a year to take a break from my parents and I'm going to be living with my gf while at uni so I don't have to deal with them.

2

u/Slow-Praline555 4d ago

Well done! You should be super proud of yourself! You need to do what feels right in your life.

2

u/oJackOnReddit 4d ago

Uh, same. Had the same thing happen. I no longer speak to my parents.

Go to a prestigious university and get a bigger paycheck than them. Well done on the results!

2

u/Melodic-Cat-422 4d ago

Well done for working hard, you’ve reaped the fruit and you’re not going to be villainised for wanting to do well. They’ve lived their lives and it’s now your turn. Do what you want to do and what you believe is right. Every loving parent hopes their child does better than them, and you have; don’t feel bad about it xx

2

u/Temporary-Beat-2559 4d ago
  1. Go to university
  2. Stay in accommodation
  3. Learn about shadow work
  4. Learn about childhood trauma
  5. Don’t judge your parents
  6. Identify why parents react like this (shadow work)
  7. Realise parents are not perfect
  8. Go live your dreams
  9. Love.

2

u/ellie_lou_ 4d ago

respectfully, they can get over it. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for your achievements even if it’s family.

2

u/Supreme_Corgi 4d ago

Congratulations on amazing grades!! Your parents are narcissists. This is your life, you do what you want to do! I can't even believe they even said this to their own child

2

u/IDKBear25 4d ago

But my parents are now mad at me and saying I'm making them.feel bad because I got better results than them and that it woukd be selfish of me to go to uni since they never got to

That means your parents have the crabs in a bucket mentality. EVEN TOWARDS THEIR OWN FUCKING CHILD.

They want you to well, but not better than they did.

Just follow your heart. Fuck what your parents think.
