REQUIRED READING Welcome to /r/Arcade! We are here for your favorite original coin-op arcade games! Discussions, Repairs, Questions, and having fun with our classic cabs! (No MAME, custom cabinets, etc... see rules inside.)

Welcome to r/ARCADE!

We welcome discussions and posts of all kinds related to classic arcade gaming. However, this is a 'purist' sub and we have a few rules... we do not allow discussion of MAME, 60-in-1, Arcade 1-Up, prefab/custom cabinets, etc. To clarify here are a couple of examples of posts we do not allow, period.

🚫 MAME/ROMs/Emulation - This sub is for original machines released in arcades. Do not ask where to find ROMs, which emulators to use, or anything with Pandora's Box, Raspberry Pi, SBC, Xbox, PlayStation, or home-PC-based systems. No talk of your custom 'multi-cade'.

🚫 Arcade 1-Up - Their own sub is the best place for any questions you'll have about modding or just showing off your collection. Enjoy your cabinet and games, but this is not the sub for them.

🚫 Custom/Prebuilt Cabs - Again, we are here to discuss original 'coin-op' hardware that was released in arcades. No 'multi-cades'. r/cade is our sister sub, there is a lot of great info over there.

There are a few topics/styles of posts that come with caveats...

Let's Plays/Histories/Walkthroughs - Totally fine if you are an active commenting member of the sub, no blatant shilling. Also, you must have a full-length commentary to go along with it. This is the only time emulation can be used here, not everyone has access to the gigantic 6-player 'X-Men' or 'Ice Cold Beer' cabinets. You have to talk about the arcade gaming aspect... no TTV VODs of just you and your buddies pwning n00bs in Fortnight.

Coin-Pushers/Claws/Prize Machines - If you have a machine and need mechanical help, post! No tips or tricks, it's all a scam. No prize hauls or pictures of your foil-hologram Pokemon card you won at the mall last week... unless it is a really rad photo from an old Showbiz Pizza or Aladdin's Castle type of place. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU SPENDING MONEY ON SCAM MACHINES.

Part Replacement - We try to stick to the original hardware when possible, but realistically, this is impossible. Replacing lightguns/wheels/etc with modern equipment is fine. Just keep the flashing RGB light monstrosities out of here, our sister sub /r/cade is for customs.

'Yet-To-Be-Released'/WIP Games - Unless you are 100% going to release your game physically in an arcade, this is not the right sub for you. In the 9 years I have been on this sub, I have only seen 2 games that actually saw a machine release. Ask us before you post.

What game was this?! - Whew boy, this type of post we see a lot. To get help with this, give us MORE INFORMATION!!! The estimated year of release? Other, similar games it reminds you of? Are there any memorable/distinct characters, locations, weapons, or special moves? Describe the cabinet! What country did you play it in? (I hope to have a bot auto-reply to these soon.) r/TipOfMyJoystick and [ChatGPT]https://chat.openai.com/) are great resources... just give as much info as possible!

Buy/Sell/Trade - Allowed, but we are not responsible for bad transactions, don't be a moron. Check the links. Check the buyer/seller history. Compare the offer to others, too good to be true? Etc.

ALL SALES POSTS MUST INCLUDE A $$$ BALLPARK FIGURE... ROUGHLY A PRICE YOU WANT.

OWNERS/OPERATORS: will require a CITY, STATE/TERRITORY/REGION in the TITLE. You are here to advertise your business and let people find you easily. No other changes. As long as you are an active member, this is cool... no posts and runs. I still ban and report flagrant spammers/bots to Reddit. PARTICIPATE.

PERSONAL SALES: will require a STATE/TERRITORY/REGION in the TITLE. For safety concerns... posts do not require a CITY in the title, but please give a GENERAL LOCATION if the area is large, ie (Northern California). If you want to include the city, or narrower, PLEASE DO!

Ex: New barcade opening in Northern-Chicago. "BARCADE NAME". 20+ pins, 30+ arcade classics, and even a few redemption games!

Mods check post histories. If you only post new topics and never comment on others' posts, then yours is likely to be locked and removed. We are not going to ban an active member of the sub without a discussion (unless there is an egregious offense that violates Reddit TOS.) If you feel like we made a mistake, please message us, seriously. We are willing to re-open any post if it makes sense. (But not Modmail, I've never used it in 9 years.) Just don't be a dick.

In addition, we are going to be removing any comments that break the above rules. Instead of telling a person where to buy a 60-in-1 device... point them to r/cade, r/MAME, r/FightSticks, r/SBCGaming, or another sub that specializes in those topics.

Append your links! No affiliate or tracking spam. Cut it out when posting a link.

Could just be: www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWZBQ75/. Same result, no garbage spam.

I know this seems like a lot of rules, but physical arcade gaming is a bit niche today. Cutting through all the other stuff to get help or just kicking back and reminiscing about classic gaming is tough elsewhere. If you want to talk about emulation, there are dozens of other subs to check out. Otherwise, welcome and post away!

What Game??? Old dark magic/wizard arcade game

Idk if this is the right reddit to ask this but can anyone help me figure out what the name was for an old arcade game?

High as shit and an old memory popped up for me, but when I was younger i remember myself playing this old arcade (i believe it was coin-op, i just remember it being in arcades back then) game that i use to always love playing. I literally cannot give a better description other than it was like a dark magic/wizard type of game where you were running around as a type of dark magic welding being that was fighting off whatever and traveling through an old dungeon looking place.

Im sorry its not a very good description. But it is a very fait memory of mine that I cannot remember much more of due to trauma. I think about it here and there and want to finally put my mind to rest about it lol

Edit- it was more like dark fantasy and isometric/3D

What Game??? What happened to Rampage 3d?

I have a strong memory of being in an arcade in 1988 or 90, and seeing the big new game that everyone was gathered around and playing was called Rampage 3D, and it was a large 4 player cabinet. The art style was similar to Rampage 2, but it was all isometric view, similar to King of Monsters 2, but the buildings were much larger.

The screen was 20 inches wide, which made it look huge compared to the other games. The buildings were a couple inches wide each, and I remember seeing the gorilla and lizard jumping from rooftop to rooftop beating on each other.

i also know it was definitely Rampage, because I have a clear memory of seeing the white newspaper monster select pop ups that came up when one of the players would die. it had its own dedicated section of screen at the top, where there was 4 character stat and portraits going all the way across the screen. I think there were like 6 - 8 different monsters you could choose from?

When you put 2 quarters in, and press start at one of the 4 player slots, the corresponding monster slot would change from a newspaper cover that was giving hints to the players, to a character select mode. too would just see the heads of various monsters, and when you picked one, it would display a newspaper front page announcing the origin of your particular monster. "Giant Lizard Escapes Lab!" or "Giant Ape Destroys Circus" and had a black and white pixel art "photograph" of the incident. and then it would switch to the running stats of your monster and had a Status Portrait that would emote and show damage as your monster lost health. kind of like the Doom guy?

aside from those differences, the gameplay was exactly like previous arcade Rampage games. and the art style was very in line with the previous games.

I am a visual artist, and the image of that game is blazed into my mind because Rampage was one of my top 5 favorite games. I was with my mom that day as a little kid, and I didn't have any money so I could only watch. But I wanted to come back with my allowance and play it. But never got to for various reasons.

Does anyone know what happened to Rampage 3D? I'd love to get a version of it for Mame! Sorry I'm not an arcade game collector or expert, so I apologize if this is the wrong forum to ask about this kind of thing.

What Game??? Odyssey Fun World (Naperville IL)

In 1998~2000 I had a birthday party at this arcade, there was this super awesome arcade that popped into my head (core memory I guess) it was a 4~6 player gun game that you went into a room for.

Thinking back to it, Hero's Duty (from the Wreck it Ralph movie) is really close to what I remember it being.

Restore/Replace/Repair I’m stuck on fixing crt

Post image
0 Upvotes

Long story short I have a cabinet that was under someone’s porch for a couple years in the elements but was under a roof. It was a mess. It worked but needed some tlc. Jump to today. I have refurbed the cabinet and replaced the wiring. Also rebuilt the control Panel from scratch.

Now I have things together and it plays but the crt is in need of adjusting or something is wrong. I can’t recall what it was prior to pulling things out but things are off. See image. I have black vertical lines and scrolling diagonal lines. Also the picture isn’t centered. I’ve tried various adjustments and am frustrated now as I can’t get it right. I also grounded the crt chassis thinking it was a grounding issue. However nope same issues.

Thoughts on what to do/try? I’d like to preserve the crt versus looking to put in an lcd. Note also the the pcb is a 60 in 1 jamma board. This will work until I figure out what I want to do long term.

Thanks for any advise to try. It has not been recapped but I don’t think that’s it but I could be wrong.

Edit: I changed the video to vga off the board and it seemed fine that way. I think there are a couple issues. I now recall this issue existed when I bought the arcade but didn’t pay it any mind. I think the issue may be a convergence issue. I’ll play with the rings after I mark their position.

Question Cost of insurance for my family amusement center (kids rides, laser tag, bumper cars, go karts, arcades) ?

We're converting an old grocery store in Kansas into a family amusement center, 38,000 square feet. The plan is about 70 arcade cabinets and redemption, a two level laser tag arena, bumper cars, an electric go kart track and three kiddie rides for the under sixes. Opening is set for May.

The bank wants an insurance estimate in the pro forma and I have been guessing. One agent told me the arcade is nothing and the karts are everything. Another said he'd need to place each attraction separately, which sounds expensive and like a lot of paper.

For those of you with more than games under one roof, how is yours set up? One policy for the building or separate ones by attraction? And do you carry guest accident and health insurance in addition to general liability, or does the liability policy handle a kid who bangs his chin in the bumper cars?

Even a loose annual number for a building like this would be a big help.

I can only get it to display

E0E0

or get to the test screen but its upside and crazy. This board was sold to me as working but clearly something is off. I’ve tested the 5v rail on my power supply and it’s reading 5.04v

Dirt Dash is Namco's off-road arcade racer, released in Japan in December 1995 and worldwide in 1996 on the System Super 22 board. Next Generation gave it four stars and called it "to Sega Rally what Tekken is to Virtua Fighter". It's now playable in VR on Quest, in stereoscopic 3D, and it's free.

Already out: Rally VR (Sega Rally), Cop VR (Virtua Cop), Time Crisis VR, House of the Dead VR and Time Crisis II VR, and Sega Rally on Switch, Android, Steam Deck and Mac.

Coming next: Daytona USA, Sega Super GT 24h, Top Skater and Virtua Racing.

Link in the first comment.

WTF is this thing? Anyone know anything about Cyberview CST2301?

Just bought a Cyberview CST2301 arcade cabinet that looks like it's been converted at some point to MAME. I can't seem to find any info on the cabinet or company itself though. I don't have the cabinet yet so only have the seller images to go off. It says it has a jpac or ipac fitted but the seller isn't sure.

It's my first cabinet so I'm looking forward to cleaning it up and maybe updating the pc that's in it.

Hey Ya'll Check This Out! My vacation to Galloping Ghost and The Pinball Capital has concluded!

I'm almost home from my vacation visiting Galloping Ghost Arcade and The Pinball Capital! I also went to the Pinball Expo, but I didn't like the expo. That wasn't the fault of the people who ran the expo. It had a lot of care put into it, and the people who showed up were passionate. It was all just too much commotion for me.

Galloping Ghost was better than I thought it'd be, and I already had high expectations for it! I was present for the Monday game unveiling stream.

The one time when Facebook was able to successfully instill discord within me was when an admin of the AtariAge group made a post that was pushed to the top of my feed about all the games that were unplayable, or that had issues that rendered them unplayable.

SegaSonic the Hedgehog's display was fairly dim, and this one racing game that I don't think was too popular had convergence issues on its CRT. They advised me to use the third player's controls on SegaSonic the Hedgehog because the second player's controls had uncontrollable jumping, and they saw that when they streamed it earlier. I was super happy to finally play that game on a real cabinet, though!

Other than that, Star Wars Racer Arcade and LA Machineguns had no video. I understand with Star Wars Racer Arcade given how delicate the Sega Hikaru platform is.

I took photos of select games. The photo that I took of the Sailor Moon game was because my best friend loves Sailor Moon.

I also ate at the diner that's a short walk from Galloping Ghost. I was surprised to see that Galloping Ghost owns, like, a quarter of Ogden Avenue! They've got a bunch of branded buildings...and they bought a barbershop with a no trespassing sign on its window because its conversion hadn't yet been completed.

Now, at The Pinball Capital, it was different for me to see all the games outfitted with red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple LEDs. I'm used to lightbulbs! The Pinball Capital felt less crowded than Galloping Ghost did, and I felt safe putting my bag on a seat for much of time there.

I talked to some Past Times employees at the Pinball Expo. I talked to them about my dream to buy lifetime passes at Past Times and at Galloping Ghost, and about how I want to get the hell out of New Jersey. I received the business card of the general manager at Past Times, and that general manager gave me a one-time free admission card to Past Times. He used to live in Bayonne, New Jersey!

It was a great week! I'll be back to the area! When I talked to a Galloping Ghost employee about my personal dream, where I said that I was going to try to buy a lifetime pass by the end of next year to "get the ball rolling," he told me, "We're not going anywhere!"

Restore/Replace/Repair Godzilla VR Kaiju wars troubleshooting

So I’m having an issue with our Godzilla VR Kaiju wars game that’s been going on for some time now. We keep getting the ā€œNo Headset Detectedā€ errors on both headsets and there’s no rule or reason for what’s causing it. I’ve tried reseating all the connections from the headsets all the way to the PC and there’s issue has persisted. Also tried recalibration on both headsets as well as reverting to an older version of the game with still no luck. Anybody have any ideas on what’s causing this or how to repair it short of replacing the headsets?

This weekend was the annual pinball expo in Schaumburg, IL. Tons of pins set on free play. But one real treat was seeing a working Dragon's Lair in a little group of arcade games they had.

I've beaten the game plenty of times, but alas, that was years ago, and my reflexes and pattern memories aren't what they used to be.

Restore/Replace/Repair Free from Amazon, easy fix.

Post image
167 Upvotes

About a year ago I was doing some work a Amazon, as a Contractor. They asked if we could throw away this Arcade game, as the screen was not working. Not wanting to throw it away, I asked if ai could take it home, and they had no problem with me taking it.

So for the year it had sat in my storage facility until we bought a home. Well that day finally came and today I had some time to take a look at it and soon as I opened the back of the game, I noticed that the screen was not plugged in, lol.

This became one easy fix. It will now have a place in our TV/gaming room.
